AN is also used widely for Acoustic Neuroma so every time I see it I think someone has NF2 (which also often leads to deafness or an acoustic tumor, but usually we are referring to AudioNeurapothy (or something like that)??? The two abbreviations are used interchangeably but they refer to the same test. When I typed ABR, I couldn't remember the other " synonym.
