Guest guest
Patti, I didn't expect things to take this long but in the end, I know it will be worth it. No matter what happens I plan to see this whole process through no matter what happens. When I finally get my CI, all of the waiting I've done will be rewarded with the gift of hearing. And that is *definitely* something worth waiting for!
Guest guest
OMG!!! Patti talk about being so close to getting a CI i think you hold the record!!! to be right there IN the hospital and ready for surgery and to call it off!!!! oh i do not think i could be very lady like about this LOL LOL and to have it again postpone??!!! geeesh you're a very patient person! this is amazing susan
Guest guest
It will be worth it belive me - even it did not go as well as first (switch on) it WILL get better - for me, I HATED it at first, it took me a good year before I could start to understand, appreachiate and start to enjoy the sounds coming thru. remember everyone is different...........good luck........again fire any q's you have..........Alison velma214 <Scrabbler214@...> wrote: > Patti, > > " I didn't expect things to take this long but in the end, I know it will be > worth it. I do know how hard it is to be so ready for a procedure only to have it postponed. My CI surgery was postponed twice in the same week! On my original date, I came within 20 minutes 3 times that day of going into the OR only to be pushed back due to an emergency coming in and overflowing recovery rooms. They finally sent me home that day 12 hours after arriving; without an implant and a surgery date for 4 days later which was cancelled two days later due to other commitments my ENT had that were forgotten about. My surgery finally took place a week after the original date. It's been quite a journey for me and my whole family! But, it's been worth it all to hear everyday sounds and my family's voices. Hang in there! I am looking forward to reading how it goes for you. We just need to wait a little longer than we want to. Take care, ! Good luck to you! Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
that is bad.........i would have felt v v let down, esp when you've been waiting for like ages, you get all worked up - esp if you are worried about the op - thta happened to my firend - she was in hosp day before and was about ready to go down to theatre the next morning - had the pre-meds etc etc, then was told they could not do the op that time - she also has other probs as well.........but i can see from her point of view - that must have been awful............she got thru second time though.........i can understand some your fustration!! Guest guest
i totally agree.........but it will be worth it in the end, even at first doesn't seem so, but be patience - mine was tested after switch on - wanted to hear everything more quickly!! Guest guest
My CI audi hasn't mentioned anything to me yet about a HA trial. I've been wearing super power BTEs since 1995 and have always been a very good hearing aid user since I started wearing them in 1985. In fact, all of my audi's (3 within 9 years) have commented me on how well I use my hearing. My current audi was impressed with how I used the environmental microphone on my FM system to maximize the use of my residual hearing despite the fact that I have no speech discrimination in my left ear and minimal speech discrimination in the other. Then again, my total blindness doesn't give me a choice in the matter since I can't use visual clues to help me understand what I can't hear. As a result, I use tactile sign, Braille real-time captioning and alternative communication methods. Sometimes an interpreter or captionist can't be scheduled, so I just have to do my best in trying to understand what is being communicated to me. Guest guest
22 months from referral to operation date? Wow! I hope I won't have to wait that long... I was really hoping to go back to school in January. Of course, if the process takes awhile and I need to take the spring semester off, I will gladly do it. I don't want to put this off because if I don't do this now, I probably never will.

Guest guest
, I don't know why, but your last message initially struck me as funny...probably because of your writing style. <smile> You're right. The entire process of getting a CI is time consuming and does require alot of patience. Fortunately, I tend to be a very patient person, so this hasn't been a problem. The only thing I need to think about is how this may impact my plans to return to school in January. If I have to wait until summer to resume my studies, I will because getting a CI will make my education, future employment and life a little easier than it is now. I think you got the right idea, the CI can really make a difference so go on and wait.
