However, Dr. Aceves says nothing carbonated. The carbonation has the potential to cause problems with your band. It simply isn't worth it. Jennilgr00_00 <lgr00_00@...> wrote: No carbinated? Guest guest
When the band is sewn to the stomach, the bigger stomach is sewn up and over the band. That creates a pocket at the top of your big stomach that the gas from the carbonation goes. Since this gas rises it has nowhere to go but continue to collect there. It becomes quite painful. Really, the most effective way to get rid of it is to literally stand on your head and the gas will go " up " through your intestines, again... assuming you are standing on your head. ;o) A stoma is like a one way valve so drinking carbonated drinks makes it so you cannot burp after it goes through your stoma, and you will fart. A lot. ;o) 252/169/150 Banded 12/06 On 7/13/07, J Currie <giftedtch@...> wrote: Nothing carbonated. I know there are some people who continue to drink soda and they will disagree with this. Guest guest
Hi All, I suppose carbonation is forbidden because it is slightly acidic. By the same line of reasoning wine should be also forbidden. I will ask Dr. A when I get my band and disseminate the answer to the Group. Guest guest
It actually has to do with the gas rather than the acid. Wine is fine. The effervescence in the carbonated drinks can bloat your pouch and cause excess gas and has the potential to cause band slippage (over time). Guest guest
Hi Jennie, I have thought about the issue later and came to the same conclusion as you.. I hope that people who naturally pass more gas than the average person are not more at risk than others. Must a person like that go on GasEx, or use some other remedy for flatulance? Guest guest
Newbies are notorious for swallowing a lot of air and with a band it often times acts as a one way valve. It goes down but it doesn't come back up again. That is something you are going to want to be extra careful of as well as your food choices. 252/169/150 Banded 12/06 On 7/16/07, Margaret Nemet <margaret.nemet@...> wrote: And I am full of gas.
