Guest guest
A friend told me on GMA TV program yesterday a deaf woman was fitted with new, powerful hearing aids called the Power Divan, which enables those with deafness that did not benefit from previous HAs to be able to hear. Will this mean less deaf people may qualify for CI if such aids are on market?
Guest guest
This is interesting. As of late, I've noticed more HA manufacturers claim that their super power hearing aid models will eliminate or compliment a CI. I won't name names here but there is another major company who is making a similar claim. Where is all of this coming from? Is this the " latest " advertising hype? I sure hope not because if it is, alot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening. <sigh>

Guest guest
, I'm glad you asked this question otherwise I wouldn't have given a second thought to the claims made by HA manufacturers regarding a super power hearing aids. Last year I came close to purchasing a certain hearing aid brand because of claims made by the company about it being the most powerful on the market. After doing some investigating, I learned that the digital hearing aids I'm currently using are identical in power output/amplification. Guest guest
I think it's marketing hype. You can't hear it even if it's louder, then there's nothing hearing aid can do. The reason why those HA manufacturers claim tat they can eliminate a CI is because of the " severe-to-profound " range, with a severe-to-profound, you're a CI candidate, at the same time, you can use HA too, HA can help sometimes, so it's very borderline, very vague. So it really depends, if you're stone deaf, there's nothing HA can do, and not even a powerful one can help. Regards/ Jerome Re: Less Deaf CI? This is interesting. Guest guest
Jerome, Thanks for that clear explanation. In that case, there must be *some* kind of a difference between power and super power aids. Last year when I asked my HA audi about getting a certain brand of power aid she told me that it wouldn't be strong enough for my hearing loss. I've worn super power aids for almost 10 years and they've always worked well for me. However, over the past year or so I've had alot of difficulty with speech discrimination (even when I use my Comtek FM system in conjunction with my aids). Hence my decision to get a CI.
