hi Folks,

My name is and I'm writing from Washington, DC. I had a mini-gastric

bypass in Dec 2000 with Dr. Rutledge and have mostly done very well. The

reason that I am writing because in the last few months, I've developed some

bizarre problems and want to know if ANYONE has had any kind of similar

experience or knows any post-ops that have had ANYTHING like this happen to

them.

Back in early April, I started getting burning pains in my lower

back. I assumed this was due to overexercise. I was told by doctors

to rest, take anti-inflammatories, do physical therapy. I never got

better. My problems have only gotten worse. I started getting

burning nerve pain in my thighs, arms, and upper back as well. I

started feeling my upper spine shift and sticking into everything.

My bones will just ache. After I couldn't exercise, I started

counting calories as I was concerned with weight regain but instead

I lost 20 pounds in a very short period of time. My hips get stiff,

my muscles are very weak. I have limited ability to walk. Sitting

hurts, standing hurts.

I have had every medical test under the sun. X-rays, spinal MRI's,

BRain MRI's, nerve conduction tests, blood work. The only

abnormalities are very low estrogen, low FSH and low LH hormones.

Next week I'm having a bone density scan.

I tried sending a post to the main post-op list 8 weeks ago. That

post never appeared and I didn't get mail for 6 weeks and couldn't

log in either. Then one day, mail just started coming again for no

rhyme or reason.

Any ideas? Feel free to email me directly.

Thanks,

in DC

curious though. I'll be looking to see if anyone has experienced the same

thing....

at last check, my calcium levels were normal. Could it still be a bone

problem? I was wondering if calcium levels in blood are normal, could it

somehow not be making it to my bones.

Thanks,

,

Sounds an awful lot like the symptoms I have with Osteoarthritis

Degenerative Joint Disease and Fibromyalgia.....my bloodwork always

comes back normal and I'm over 4 years out. I've also seen several

articles on the net that explore the increase in arthritis after

gastric bypass surgery. Hope they find your problem soon.
