Guest guest
Hi Suzy.. Dont worry about having the surgery in Mexico, when you leave they give you a copy of everything that is done for you and your xrays and stuff. I went to my local doctor and told them i had it done after wards and it was a good thing. i healed very fast and had no complications at all. i feel wonderful. I recently had my lab work redone and found out i have a gall stone that might need to come out will find out on monday, other then that i am almost 30 lighter and couldnt be happier.. Good Luck to you, dob 3/6/06 340/314/200 --- Susie <susie6767@...> wrote: > Dear Jenni: > > I am very interested to hear about your experience. > I am very scared. Guest guest
I understand there are people afraid of Mexico but it's only because you're not educated about what goes on there. I respect your honesty and courage to stand up and ask. I have to admit I think it's a brush off for any dr to tell you that no one will be able to care for them afterwards. My family dr didn't know a thing about WLS,...but he has researched it and talked to dr's that do know because he's a professional and his concern is my care because I am his patient regardless of where I went for surgery. I went to Mexico. My Dr is Alberto Aceves. He is a very well mannered, professional, experienced and kind man who surrounds himself with wonderful people to make your experience just as good as any American experience. The bottom line for WLS is you can stay home and pay more or go to Mexico and pay less...it's that simple. It doesn't mean you are getting less medical attention or care. I had surgery a yr and a half ago & If I had to have lap band surgery every yr for the rest of my life just to maintain my 140 lb figure today, I wouldn't change a thing. I'd have Dr Aceves in Mexicali at the Hosiptal Almater. The choice is yours but don't buy into society wanting you to believe that you get less care in Mexico. It's not true with this dr. I know that to be true. The truth is, there are terrible dr's EVERYWHERE. There are also good Dr's everywhere too. Dr Aceves is one of the good ones. Very talented and expereinced man that I highly recommend. Susie <susie6767@...> wrote: Dear Jenni: I am very interested to hear about your experience. I am very scared. I wanted to respond to your posting about being scared of going to Mexico for surgery. Well, let me tell you...you will never receive better care from a doctor and his staff OR be in a cleaner hospital ANYWHERE in the United States. I promise you, it will absolutely blow your mind! I have never seen anything like it in my life and I have had 14 other surgeries and have been in at least 6 different hospitals in various cities around the South. NOTHING compares to the care I got at Almater...NOTHING! In fact, I'm sure I could find someone closer to do my fills because I live in Mobile, Alabama and Mexicali is extremely far away. BUT, I will pay whatever it costs me to fly out there because I KNOW I will get better care there than anywhere else I could possibly go. You could not go wrong by chosing Dr. Aceves and Almater Hospital. Don't worry what other people are saying...they are probably not speaking from first hand knowledge anyway. Have they ever been in a hospital in Mexico? I doubt it.... Take care and email me if I can share anything else. I'll be glad to share about my surgery experience if you are interested. Guest guest
Regina, I am sooo happy to have read your e*mail!! Just yesterday I had the pleasure to meet Dr. Aceves. Before I meet him I was considering another doctor in Mexico as well in another part of Mexico, simply because I have some personal friends of mine that has the bypass and lapband procedure done by this doctor. The only problem is that this doctor is so far away from me because I live in Riverside Califonia and this doctor is about 3 hour plan ride. Upon me reading on the Web about these surgries I came accross a web page that brought me to Dr. Aceves and his team. Nina his coordinator from the inital contact was great, and now after being able to meet with the doctor and his team at the hospital I really feel that I have made the right descion to have Dr. Aceves preform my bypass operation. I am really excited and the more I read the shared e*mials by everyone that has had their procedure done with Dr. Aceves the more I am less scared and more ready for my new life. So again I want to thank you for your e*mail. I am counting the days till my surgery. If you do not mind, can you tell me what procedure you did and how do feel and how long was your procedure done? Thanks a million Nydia rlrios3 <regina.rios@...> wrote: To everyone that has questions about going to Mexico-The hospital in Mexicali is 120 times cleaner than any hospital in the US. I mean thorough cleaning- doorknobs, rails, sinks, everything..... The staff is awesome. Yolanda, the patient coordinator, will do anything for you or your family. He also works the long hours and anticipates anything you might need. The other nursing staff try hard to understand and will do anything to help. You never even have to push the call button. Guest guest
hey everybody. i have not had the surgery done yet, but i know i am with in the next month. but about mexico and the surgery and the doctors. let me tell you a few things. my husband is from mexico and when i first went to mexico i thought oh my god this is going to be bad. but really is was great. i did not go to a torrist area or any where there was americans and i had something come up when i was there and i had to go to the hospital. that was the cleanist place and the best one i have ever been to including the USA. i had 8 xrays and 4 med.s to fill and i asked if they took me insurance and they said no i was scared but they made you pay the bill at time of leave and it was only $45 in american money. my friends are asking the samething about the hosp. and since i had first hand experince i am not worried about that its the plane ride im more worried about. She said I should be scared to go to Mexico. It is sad what people say about Mexico. thank you for your email. Susie Scared of Mexico... Susie, I don't post too often on the message board but I do read the various postings every day. Guest guest
That was very well said Liz.lizadeltastar <airbart@...> wrote: Hi Susie,I'm going to butt in if you don't mind (well, i guess even if you do...) The #1 reason some US Dr's say nasty things about going to Mexico for surgery is because of how affordable it is to US patients who otherwise get overlooked by American insurance companies. They'll find that one patient who went south of the border for a simple procedure and something goes wrong and that's the patient they'll focus on FOREVER. You'll never hear about the hundreds of us who had fabulous expereinces in well maintained, spotlessly clean hospitals. As for "aftercare" - what aftercare? You pull out your own stitches (piece of cake!) and keep the incisions clean and dry. When you need a fill, you locate a local doctor willing to help or you travel back to visit with Dr. Aceves (for those of us lucky enough to live not too far away.) Don't let the negative feedback from the American press or any US doctor sway your decision. If you found Dr. Aceves and Almater Hospital - you are right on track for a healthy, slimmer future.LizDOB: 8/11/05275/217/1351st fill - 11/25/05 1.9cc's>> Dear Jenni:> > I am very interested to hear about your experience. Guest guest
I guess I'll just put my 2 cents worth in about aftercare. Nina is just a phone call away as is Dr. Aceves. They are prepared to help you in any way they can if problems do arise. Liz is right though. There isn't that much to the after care in most cases. As far as fills go, you just need to do your research and you will find someone who will suit you! Best wishes for a great journey.
