Guest guest
HI Kristi, you are doing great! I am like you I want to see some action on that scale. It has almost become a obsession with me. Guest guest
I continue to weigh myself everyday too, I just can't help myself! I purposely went and bought a scale when I got my band so I could keep track. Before that, I avoided any and all scales at every turn. I know I shouldn't be doing it, but I keep right on. Right now I am wanting another fill so bad I can't stand it. It's been three weeks since my last one and I don't feel like it has made that much of a difference. I might be dealing a little less with hunger pains, but most of the time I can eat pretty much all I want, I just don't let myself. Getting a little frustrating, but I'm hanging in there. Guest guest
I'm sure many will want to throw rocks at me for saying this but I have to admit that I have weighed myself TWICE every single day since my surgery. When I have traveled, I pack my scale. Insane, isn't it? But, you know what? It honestly helps me. When I see the scale start moving up, I know what I need to do to get it to move back down. I know that I weight 2 pounds more at night than I do in the morning so I pretty much know what to expect when I weigh when I get up. Now, what good does this do? Well, I went for YEARS without stepping foot on a scale simply because I was so afraid to weigh myself. I can't help but wonder if I had been more conscious of my weight in numbers, I might not have let it get up so damn high. One thing I have had to really train myself to do was to WORK with the numbers, not let them work against me. For instance, like I said before, when I see the numbers start creeping up, then, I know what I MUST do to stop it at that point. If I only weighed once a week, I'm afraid that I would let things get a little out of hand. YOU have to figure out what works best for you. Most people use their scale almost as a form of punishment or a source of depression but I have used it as a tool all the way through my weightloss journey. I sure do like seeing the numbers get lower and lower but I also know that the reality is that those numbers will, at times, get a little higher but that just provides a visual that I need to do something before it is too late. Guest guest
kristi, how much did they fill you with? how long are you going to wait? I know fills are not cheap, huh?! I was glad that all i had to get was two. I only have 1.7 cc's in my band. so I am not really that full. But I have just not loosened up after my last fill. something I Notice being tight is that if I am good and behave and dont push the band I do much better. But if I eat to much, to fast or dont chew well I am basically messed up. so if I do what I know I am supposed to, I do fine. I think for me, irritating the band is a bad thing! It must cause it to swell and there fore make you tighter. I have thought about putting my scale down stairs somewhere. Because I like to weigh right before I get in the shower in the morning and if I had to walk down stairs with no clothes on, I wouldnt bother. so I am thinking about doing that, to see if it helps me not to weigh so much. :-) ttys, hugs, > > > > Put me down for 60 minutes today. Guest guest
Jenni... I'm the same way. I weight daily, sometimes twice daily. But.... I don't take my scale with me when I travel! HA! But it keeps me honest and keeps me in check. If I gain a pound I don't sweat it because I never gain more than a pound or two. If I do nothing I usually stay the same, if I work at it I lose. Weight fluctuations are going to happen, it's a given. But to keep me motivated and keep me going I do weigh daily. I think that's another issue that is unique and individual and there are no hard and fast rules. It's whatever works for each person. That's my thought anyway. 252/151/150 Banded 12/06 On 10/2/07, J Currie <giftedtch@...> wrote: I'm sure many will want to throw rocks at me for saying this but I have to admit that I have weighed myself TWICE every single day since my surgery. Guest guest
I am the same way! I have to weigh everyday. I just have always done better when trying to lose weight if I stay accountable to myself on a daily basis. The important thing in weighing everyday is not to sweat 1 or 2 pounds, and remember some things are going to cause us to retain fluid occasionally. I can always tell by the scale if I am getting enough water in, I will always be up a pound or two. So it makes me try harder in eating right and drinking all the water that I need. So I personally don't think weighing daily is a bad thing! bobo DOB 6/22/07 253 245/208/145Bipley <Bipley@...> wrote: Jenni... I'm the same way. I weight daily, sometimes twice daily. But.... Guest guest
I got 1.6 cc's in my first fill. I think I will call today and see about getting an appointment this week or next. I really think that it shouldn't take me more than one or two more to get what I need. I can feel restriction if I eat too fast or don't chew well enough, but I can still eat too much to begin with, so I really think a little more would be good. I've also lost about 9 pounds since my last fill, which was 3 weeks ago, so that makes a difference too. I was glad to see other people admit to weighing every day (or more often than that!). I guess if we look at it as a tool, it's OK and I think that is what I do. I used to look at it as an excuse to just eat more, "Well if I'm already that fat, there's nothing I can do about it!" What a sick way to think of it. I'm glad that is not where I am today. My biggest encouragement is the fact that I know the weight will not come back. That really makes the future look so much brighter. Kristi DOB 8/3/07 219/180/145peninsulahair <peninsulahair@...> wrote: kristi, how much did they fill you with? how long are you going to wait? Guest guest
Kristi and , I'm with you guys all the way! I've been gaining and losing the same 6 lbs. for six weeks now. It is SO frustrating! Last week I went on the South Beach Diet and increased my exercise intensity. It looks like it did the trick... finally! This morning the scale was down 4 lbs. instead of up 6! Yay! My only concern is that I won't be able to keep up with yet another " diet " and exercising as much as I have in the last week. I think I might need a fill as well. The food just slips right through my band most of the time. The only thing preventing me is that when I got my last fill, said I wouldn't need another for a long, long time. But it seems like my band loosens with every 20 lbs. I lose. Is that normal? I'm tired of eating dry chicken or turkey in the hopes it'll stick in my pouch. Guest guest
Hi, I'm totally brand new to this board and I'm looking into Dr. A as a surgeon possibly. In my research, I came across your answer. The reason you feel less " restriction " is because the residual fat pad between your pouch and the band has lessened due to you losing 20 more pounds, so you need a fill. This will continue happening until you stop losing weight. Hope this helps! Contgrats on your weight loss so far! > > > > > > Put me down for 60 minutes today. Guest guest
Setje...It seems like forever since I have heard from you. Your progress is awesome! It sounds like you need a fill. I have decided I don't care how long I stay where I am, if I can't maintain what I start for the rest of my life, I'm not doing it. I remember in the beginning when I wasn't losing my friend told me to fast, to do liquids again, to do an internal cleansing, blah, blah, blah. I decided after my band, if I can't live that way I'm not going to start. Maybe that is the wrong attitude, I don't know. Anyway, it's good to hear from you and I'm sorry you are battling that same 6lbs UGH!!! But good job on losing 4lbs and I hope it sticks this time Cyrena
Guest guest
Hi Cyrena! I'm still here and I still read the posts every morning! I've been so busy at work and traveling quite a bit, and my weekends are spent at the animal shelter. Saturday alone I clocked in 9 miles of doggie walking. They were all pooped out in their kennels when I was through with them. Haha! Cyrena you look absolutely beautiful as you are. In my opinion, any extra weight you lose would be just a bonus! My stall was depressing, but it will pass. Just not losing weight as fast as I'd hoped, but I am losing and that's all that matters. I'm a size 12 now and just happy to be here instead of a size 22 like I used be! Setje DOB: 3/15/07 250/182/148 > > Setje... > It seems like forever since I have heard from you. Guest guest
Hey, thanks for that! I'll bet that's what's happening because the last 20 lbs. I've lost has been a lot of belly fat. My band has always been finicky, reverting from loose to restricted every other week. But lately I've been mostly loose (my sister always tells me I need to watch it when I talk about my band... I've gotten some funny looks from men when I blurt out " Man, I'm loose today! " ) Best of luck to you on your new journey. Dr. A and his staff really are the best, hands down. I am so happy I chose them. Setje > > Hi, I'm totally brand new to this board and I'm looking into Dr. A as > a surgeon possibly. In my research, I came across your answer. Guest guest
Kristi, That is so awesome to have a Dr. that visits and is that compassionate! She is right, we forget that this takes some work on our part and we need to take some time for us, not always everyone else. I'm glad you got your fill and I hope you notice a difference right a way Cyrena Weeks 701-426-6180
Guest guest
Kristi, I am just so proud of you!!!!! Wow you are amazing!! Isn't that funny that you wanted to run, this exercise stuff is addicting huh?!!! :-) they say that exercise releases those endorphins so we actually get kind of a " high " from it, and it does become something your body " wants to do " . You are doing so awesome!! Keep it up girlie. :-) Your doctor sounds amazing!! where is she at? I like the fact that she mentioned your mental health too. This whole process is like a full circle, it involves our mental health and state of mind too. Her advice was wonderful!! :-) I hope you took it. :-) How is your restriction? I hope you find a " good spot " for you. I also need to start to add more " rougher " stuff. I have been to tight, to long. But my band is loosing up and I am eating more varieties and having way less Paying " incidents " . so I am going to start adding more fruits and veggies. keep it up! you are doing great!!! have a great day! hugs, > > Got another 60 minutes in today and feeling great! Guest guest
Hi Setje, I am ROFL about " your being loose today comment " !!! I know when I say " I am so tight " I get raised eyebrows, like " oh really " !! lol lol You know my band does this too. I think my band tightens when I irritate it. when I eat something that causes a pb or makes it swell. Because when I am " behaved " everything flows really good. but when I scarf my food or eat the wrong thing, I will be tight for the whole next day. I had a bad day yesterday. It is crazy how stupid we can be sometimes. I was running late yesterday and I didn't make a protein shake, and I was taking some cream of potato soup to work that I had made. so I decided to take a bite (more like scarf a bite really quick), and I Think a potato, or carrot got stuck. Because all day I was stuck. and it made me think or poor Rena. But by the end of the day, I was able to feel some relief. I drank 2 cups of hot cocoa and then it passed. so today, I am feeling good. Not that stupid " stuck feeling " . congrats on that 20lbs, you are doing awesome!! :-) hugs, > > > > Hi, I'm totally brand new to this board and I'm looking into Dr. A as > > a surgeon possibly. Guest guest
Thanks . Encouraging words always help! It's funny, I was just in the car driving across town thinking, "I can't wait to get home and hop on that treadmill." I hope those feeling last. Endorphins - what a wonderful thing! My fill doctor is Dr. Fitzpatrick in Eugene. She a Naturopath who used to be an oncology nurse, so she has lots of experience in dealing with ports and such. Her main focus is seeing people with gastric bands. Here's her website www.gastricbands.com. I hope my band is in the best spot possible too. It just "feels right" even though I can't eat any solids yet. Kristi DOB 8/3/07 219/180/145peninsulahair <peninsulahair@...> wrote: Kristi, I am just so proud of you!!!!! Wow you are amazing!!
