Good Morning Nina, I'm hoping you can help me. I was banded on May 20,3006 at 267 lbs. Today I am 246 and STUCK there. I know I am part of the problem, but I'm looking for suggestions how to get moving.

I don't eat much in the AM, maybe a cup of yogurt if anything. I am on the road most of the day and try as best I can to make good choices in places where I can eat. Part of my problem is I know I'm not always making great choices, but certainly my volume and choices far exceed those pre-banding.

Yesterday for instance, I my choice was a small child's size hamburger at Mcs. I took off 1/2 the bun, eating only the top. Of that I was able to finish 1/2 of the patty and 1/2 of the top bun. It was tough and the pain was mild, but tolerable and it passed quickly. Last night I went out to eat with my kids and had roughly 1 cup of shrimp and one SMALL piece of bread, maybe 5 bites of a salad. OK OK OK so the shrimp was in a butter sauce, but geesh, that's all I had.

I am struggling to get to 60 grams of protein daily, I average maybe 40-45 if that.

I have been drinking peach tea's during the day, which I will stop as I'm sure the calorie count is too high, and substitute plain water from now on.

So you see, my food intake isn't great. I have messed up a few times with cookies, and what a surprise, they go down just fine, no matter how many I eat! :-)

I go to water aerobics 3-4 nights a week, and it's a pretty hard workout!

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I get so discouraged reading these posts with women who have experienced 40-50 lb weight loss in the same amount of time.

My scale fluctuates from 245.5 to 246 for the last 2 weeks.

I had one fill the first week of July, 2.5 cc's. I can pretty much control the discomfort of eating most foods, if I am careful and follow the rules VERY carefully.

Do you think its time for another fill? Or am I self -sabotaging somehow??

Dear Kari,

You need to watch what you eat in calories. I am going down for my band. I had by pass surgery 10 years ago and the weight is now coming back. Cause food and stretching the pouch.

Stop this now and think before you eat. Cookies no no stop, stop while you can, eat right and change your thinking. Be careful from one women that knows a moment on your lips a lifetime back on your hips.

sounds like alot of you are giving your kids your bad habits stop think abut it 2 or 3 times a week feed them good food not fat food NANCY <nancy8887@...> wrote: // I know I am part of the problem, but I'm looking for suggestions how to get moving.//I know you asked Nina but I though I would put my .02 in.I think you know what the problem is; the question is what are you going to do about it?Since getting banded over a year ago, I can

honestly say I have not had any fast food. It's not as easy as it sounds because my husband and 4 year old love mc 's. I buy it for them 1 or 2 times a month but I NEVER get anything for myself. I try to avoid food I know is bad for me. You know one of those kiddie hamburgers has 280 celeries and 10 grams of fat. Another thing that stood out was the peach tea. I don't know what kind you are drinking so I cant give a calorie count but I am willing to bet if it is not diet tea, it is more then 100 calories per serving. You know the cardinal rule, No liquid calories.I think if you just get back on the band wagon, you will start to lose again.I fall off all the time and have to get myself together and get back on.7/18/05280/180/140

,

What I am going to say is going to be in love...You always have a comment or 2 about people eating habits and decisions to have the band.

What is your story? It looks like you have lost 100 lbs...perhaps you could share your experience with us in a constructive way so we also can lose 100lbs. How did you do it?

What did you eat? How did you exercise? How many fills have you had? You come across so righteous...did you ever have times when you "slipped".

I personally love your personality, your straightforwardness and determination. I have to admit for the last 2 weeks I have done very poorly. I just received a fill and for the last 2 days have been great...but of course I am not eating.

Dana, thank you for your supportive words. I know my food choices need improvement, surely I do. My letter was intended to share my struggles with it. Compared to my previous (pre-banded) diet i am eating probably less than a 1/4 of what I used to consume. I am exercising now, unlike I have in years. So I was discouraged that the weight wasn't coming off as quickly as I had hoped, in fact I seem stuck at this weight. I have adopted the attitude you have as welll. This is not a diet, but a restriction on our ability to eat much. This helps the mental combat that goes on in my head. :-)

It just seems to me that if i'm consuming 1/4 of what I used to eat that i'd continue to lose weight, even at a slower pace, but still loosing.

The peach teas are history. I will try to be creative with protein intake and increase just plain water as well.

My difficulties are that I often have to leave the house in a hurry with no notice and am gone all day. If i am to eat anything, often it is bought on the road. So often I don't have the luxury others have of "never" going to fast food places. Sometimes its what is available to me. I just try to be as smart as possible under the circumstances.

Again, thank you for your supportive words, it was helpful.

Hi , It really sounds like your not doing that bad to me!! I would think if you cut the regular tea's and maybe add some Isopure powder protein shake once a day (or twice a day if your having a hard time with meats) that you'll be back on track in no time. Did you know that Lipton and Nestea have good diet teas?, and don't forget Crystal light has flavored teas too. I just recently started the powdered shakes, they are a good way to get in 30gm of protein in one drink, only 130 cal if mixed with water, 210 if in skim milk. I also have to comment on Mc D's....WE ARE NOT ON A DIET ANYMORE!!!!!!!! HELLO PEOPLE??

If you can manage to eat 1/4 of the bun and 1/2 the meat than more power to ya!!!!! What's that??? 100-150 calories???? Some times you want what you want!! ( even if you can't half eat it!!) LOL.. SOME people choose to NEVER eat certain things EVER AGAIN!!!! And, well....That's there prerogative!! But for me I will continue to have a taste of whatever I choose knowing that I can only eat a little of it ANYWAY!!! Pizza, a cookie once in a while, a 1/2 a burger off the grill, no harm done when you count the calories at the end of the day, it's

under 1,000 EASILY!!! A calorie is a calorie weather it is in a drink, fruit, meat, or butter!! So, if some people want to be NEUROTIC over there food choices and never have "anything" that doesn't suggest "good food" to them that's their choice, but I can't imagine never having pizza or a bite of a burger again!!?? or a cookie!?? come on!!! that sounds like a DIET to me!!! This surgery is RESTRICTIVE meaning it limits greatly how much you can consume. We all know whats good for us and what should be limited. I think for the most part everyone follows as healthy a diet as they know how and shouldn't be criticized if they eat something others don't approve of. Sounds like your active, and not eating that much, if your staying full for 3-4 hours after eating then you probably don't need a fill, but you know yourself best.Well, I feel better..how about you??:) Also, the best thing about the band is it is adjustable, so the food won't stay on your "hips" like the by-pass. We can always "filler-up" tee.....hee......!

I agree with

you it is important for people to understand that they have to start eating the

correct way. The band is a tool, it is supposed to teach you moderation. If

newbies think they can go on piling in the junk food, they are in for a big

surprise. I believe it is ok to allow yourself certain things once in a while.

It is not ok to splurge on a daily basis. If people only use the band as a

temporary fix, meaning if they continue to eat the wrong things, but less of

it, they are not learning from the band. Those people, God forbid they lose

their band for whatever reason, will gain their weight back because they did

not learn what the band was supposed to teach them. I struggle every day with

the right food choices. I know when I have messed up. No, I am not on a diet

and never will be again. But I do want to eat healthy and do for the most part.

For those of us

that are one year out or more, we all know how easy the junk food can go down.

Cookies and ice cream and pizza and cake are NOT good for anyone. But they are

a treat, and they are meant for a treat. Just don’t eat them all the

time.

We may not be on a diet but we should eat healthier food and make

better choices then before. Since we consume less, it is important

that we eat foods that fill our nutritional needs. Part of losing

weight (and maintaining weight lose) with the band is changing

how/what you eat. While we may not " diet, " we should definitely be

monitoring what we eat.

I don't care what food program you are on, Mc 's is never a

We have all strayed from the " bandster " way of eating at some

Me either. Cant eat bread, pasta, rise, chicken, steak, ground beef, anything made with dough, fish (tuna is okay) cant eat any of those things anymore. I eat cottage cheese, low fat cheese, eggs whites are okay sometimes, low fat yogurts, always have my protein drinks (2 x a day), fat free crackers and fat free refried beans (with sour cream and taco sauce). And I found this soup I love and it is low carb, progresso chicken cheesey enchilada soup (little tiny pieces of chicken, easy to eat) I think that is the name of it, anyways its close. Really everything for the first year is trial and error. N.Tonia Telles <toniatelles@...> wrote: For me personally, I can't eat any bread or it hurts. Real bad. Hi , How are you feeling? I was thinking this past Sat, "I was coming home from Mexico one month ago today" Time really fly's doesn't it?? Jacqui is doing great, shes lost about 15lbs and holding. She really needs a fill, she can eat a good bit and gets hungry early in the day. I take her on the 30 th so she'll just have to "restrain" herself a little longer..lol., but really she's done fabulous with this so far!! Hope all is well with you :) Dana
