Guest guest
The processor is set with an upper limit to the sound that comes in. If there is a sound that is louder than this Comfort level, it gets " squished down " so that it is tolerable for us. Since it was stated in this forum that hearing with CI gets better over time, does this mean that CI users are immune from sound abuse? Like massive exposure to high volume noises, loud sounds, etc. will not destroy their hearing like normal people?
Guest guest
Jerome, With your CI, the explosive sound would only be as much as your CI would allow. When you are mapped, you set your comfort levels and this is normaly as loud as you can comfortably stand. You will not destroy anything even if there is a massive explosion or high volume noise. The highest maximum volume has been pre-set. Alice
Guest guest
I am not sure if I am correct in stating this but I think the damage from sustained loud noise happens before the auditory nerve, like in the middle ear and cochlea. Since the electrode array send auditory signals directly to the auditory nerve, there is no damage from loud sounds in that way. Can anyone esle clarify this?? In CI is there such thing? Will continuous exposure to loud sound, even tolerable... *continuous* will make it worse?
