Guest guest
Hey Liz, I would like to get together with you girls. I lived in Santa for awhile about 6 years ago. I just moved here from Las Vegas so I dont know all the areas in Nor-Cal very while yet. I also am very nervous about driving until I get to know my way around. So when everyone decides when the get together is maybe someone can swing by and pick me up. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Guest guest
Hey Liz, His name is Dr. V. McKeen. He charged $375 for the first office visit and then I think its between $300-$325. He is such a kind guy. he spent an hour with me talking to me about the band how it works and gave me guide lines I could follow. He told me if I was to tight I could come back in and he only charges for the needle and they gave me his cell number if I had any problems. Everyone in the office was so nice. Here is his info: Dr. McKeen 2505 Samaritan Dr. Bldg. 600 Suite 600 San , CA. (408) 402-9911 or (408) 559-2143 Let me know how it goes. lizadeltastar <airbart@...> wrote: !Who does your fills in San and what does it cost? Guest guest
Hi , I live in Chatsworth, California and was banded on April 20th, 2006 by Dr. A. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!! It will be here before you know it!! After my surgery I wasnt in alot of pain. They make sure that you have pain medication right after surgery and anytime that you feel you need it. They don't want you to be in pain. I remember being asked several times if I was in pain. The 1st day is the worst which for me wasnt that bad. I dont know if you have ever had children or gall stones but that was painful!! So for me the surgery was very easy. Take Care, Tammy I. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, I dont live in Vegas any more but the Doctor I went to when I lived there was Dr. Teng. here is his number : Dr. Teng (702) 838-5888 , Las Vegas, NV He charged me $450. It does not hurt to get a fill. Its easy when the port is in a good position and the doc can feel for it. Now if he can't he will take you next door to the hospital and they will charge you around $600 more. Lets hope that doesnt happen. I had my surgery on 9/20, I didnt have hardley any pain, just a little sore. I just had my second fill and I have gone from 290 (highest weght) to 235 as of today. I am wearing a size 16 and a 1x shirt. I was a 3x or 4x and over a size 20 + ?. I feel great and so will you. Guest guest
Hi, Northern CA Ladies! I can do a weekday some times with a little advance planning. It depends on whether it's meeting day for one of the medical staff depts whose quality of care reviews I coordinate. Other meetings I can usually "skip" once in a while. Weekends in June - July are probably OK except for Father's Day weekend and one of the weekends around July 4th. , I didn't catch where you live. Phyllis Re: Re: Does anyone live in Nor-Cal? Guest guest
Hi , Yes, it's been real hot here lately. This is only the begining it gets close to 120 in the summer, but I love it here. I came here 3 years ago from California. as I'm reading some of these letters from other patients, I'm getting a little discouraged. Some patients wished they would of had the Gastric, because the band has not done much. Can you tell me if you had good success with the Lap Band, I don't want to make a mistake. Too many diets have failed for me in the past and this one is a little more expensive and don't want this one to fail as well. Please help. I want to hear positive things about the Lap Band. Thanks, "Phyllis D." <tobygirl5@...> wrote: - Bullhead City - I heard it was 108 there over the weekend!!! Phyllis Re: Re: Does anyone live in Nor-Cal? Guest guest
Thank You for some positive feed back. I was second guessing myself after reading some of the negative e-mails. Dr. A does the fills for $75.00 right? I think me and my girlfriend are going to have to make it a girls day out and go to Mexicali and get our fills. $450 is a little expensive, I rather drive two more hours and have Dr. A do the fills. Thank You. Keep up the good work. I am right now almost weighing 300 lbs. and wearing a 3x, I can't wait to wear a size 16 and a 1x. That is so awesome. How long did it take you for the weight to come off? What do you usually eat? Is is hard staying away from the chips and dips, which that is my weakness. I am not going to fail at this diet, I am so excited about the surgery and how good I'm going to feel down the line. I could just cry. Thank you for the encouragement. jennifer noonan <jnjnoonan@...> wrote: , I dont live in Vegas any more but the Doctor I went to when I lived there was Dr. Teng. here is his number : Dr. Teng (702) 838-5888 , Las Vegas, NV He charged me $450. Guest guest
No one is saying anything positive about the band?????? Maybe you need to go back and read some of the archived messages posted because I think you are mistaken. Now, I'm not going to say that the band is without possible difficulties but it is far less traumatic and less invasive than the bypass. I don't know that I have ever heard of people dying from their lap band but I have heard of PLENTY of people dying due to complications from gastric bypass. However, it is a personal decision that only you can make for yourself. I will share a little of my story if you are interested. I am 42 years old, a mother of 2 young teenage sons, and a high school teacher. I live in Mobile, Alabama. (Although this has nothing to do with my band, it is still who I am.) I have been obese for most of my life and have tried every diet known to mankind. I was always very successful in losing weight but I have NEVER been successful in keeping it off over time. I have lost the same 100 pounds over and over again. I learned about the lap band and became interested in it. I did months and months of research and finally decided on Dr. Aceves and his staff in Mexicalli. I have never regretted my decision for one minute. Have I been successful? Well, I'll let you decide. I scheduled my surgery in January. At the time that I scheduled it, I weighed 247 pounds. On the day of my surgery, which was Feb. 23, I weighed 231 pounds. Today, not even three months later, I weigh 196 pounds. I have lost a total of 33 inches all over my body. I have dropped 5 sizes in clothing. I was wearing a size 24 in February and now I wear a size 14. I have not had the first problem. Sure, I had a little diarreah and maybe I was miserable during the clear liquid stage. I gained back about 5 pounds once I moved from the full liquid diet to the mushie stage but didn't have much problem losing that again in a little while. Most people don't lose alot before getting their band filled 6-8 weeks after surgery. I had my first fill this past Saturday. I guarantee you that I lost the majority of the weight BEFORE my fill. Since Saturday, I have lost 7 pounds. Now, I WORK hard at this! My band is a wonderful tool but it is not a cure for obesity. I have to work with it and I have to do exactly what Dr. Aceves suggests in order to be successful. Yes, there are ways you can sabbatoge your band but I cannot afford to do that. I am determined that this will work but I have to be willing to do my part in making it work. I do not ignore my band. I do not eat things that may be difficult to eat (such as pizza, steak, etc) because I want to avoid making myself feel bad from eating to much or eating things that will get stuck. That is an uncomfortable feeling so I see no reason to do it. So, you be the judge. Have I been successful? Success is measured differently by different people. For me, I am ecstatic with the progress I have made. There are so many other things that have changed due to my weight loss. I can cross my legs now. I can get off the floor easily. I can bend over and tie my shoes. I can fit through turnstyles. I can walk a long way without getting winded. I can climb stairs. I can feel my ribs when I lay down!!! So, again....you have to be the judge. If you want to know anything else, please ask but I chose the lap band because it was best for me. I would have never considered the bypass....I'm too chicken! Guest guest
Thank you Jenni. I have not had the band surgery yet. I am still doing the research. Today I see my family doc with most of the information I have found from this site and what Nina has sent me. Once I make the finial decision it will be because I have done my homework. The reason I am leaning towards the band is many fold...the most important is the slower weight loss. 2 to 3 years for me. At least I hope so. Like all of you I have been riding the same yo-yo. Three years ago I spent one year loosing 80 lbs with WW. Two years ago WW left our area...and the yoyo ride 'up' started. Today I am very close to 400 lbs. In all the years of my life I would never have dreamed in my worst nightmares that this would be happening to me....never. Always way over weight but nothing like this. So you see if I have this surgery I must be fully committed and strong willed towards what I need to do everyday. I have learned through my life that the "fast way" seldom reaches the long term goal. You are all courageous....I look forward to knowing you better. Lexi -- Re: Re: Does anyone live in Nor-Cal? No one is saying anything positive about the band?????? Guest guest
Hey All, Sorry I have been out of commission for the last 2 weeks, but now I am back. Ditto Jennie. The band is an awesome tool. I wouldn't give it back for anything. Yes, I did have some shoulder pain after the surgery and yes, I did have the dreaded "liquids in, liquids out" diarrhea for the first 2 weeks, but that was nothing. Compared to being in a size 20 pants last July and now being in a size 8, that was nothing to go through. The Lapband surgery is soooo easy comparative to the bypass. I have read some are frustrated that after their first fill and they are not feeling restriction. I too had the same experience. I got my first fill from someone other than Dr Aceves and it did not give me much restriction. When I got my 2nd fill with Dr A I could tell the band was actually starting to work for me. Remember, restriction is the key. Once you find that "Sweet Spot" the desire to eat will decrease and so will your weight and your waist line. At times I get frustrated that I can't eat more. I might be eating something that tastes sooo good that I want more. If I am full I might take one more bite, savor it and then spit it out. There are a lot of good tricks we have all figured out. If you are experiencing a particular frustration let us know and we can help you. The band does work. You just need to figure out the right restriction and then listen to your band. I know it is frustrating for some that they are not loosing before their first fill. The band doesn't actually work until you get a fill. Anything before that is a bonus. So, I hope that those that are discouraged will keep strong. Wait for your fill, or get another fill if you think you need one. I think the best is to have Dr Aceves do it :0) If you can't go back maybe ask your Doc if he/she will guarantee your fill and tweak it if need be. Some will adjust the fill for up to 10 days. There is a place here in Arlington, WA that will give you more or take out for up to 10 days after a fill. The great thing is they only charge $150. I am glad to be back and hope you are all well! How long has it been since you had your surgery and was there alot of pain after? How much have you lost and how long has it been since your surgery. I'm curious to know how long before you notice the difference. I would appreciate as much information as possible from anyone. Thank You, lizadeltastar <airbart@...> wrote: !Who does your fills in San and what does it cost? I know I need a "tweak" but can't get the time to get back to Dr. Aceves. Guest guest
, First of all I would like to congradulate you on your success. Second of all I want to thank you for the story you just shared with me and all the bandsters. My surgery is on June 30 and my best friend Naomi and I are having done the same day. We are excited, but very nervous and we definately don't want to fail. We know that we have to make sacrifices, but we are definately ready for this. Thank you.J Currie <giftedtch@...> wrote: No one is saying anything positive about the band??????
