Dr. Rutledge approves of either Citrucel or Metamucil, in either the

powder or capsule form, although he feels the powder form works

better. I have found this to be the case as well, so I use the powder

(in a protein drink) twice a day when I am at home, but use the capsuls

when I am traveling. He does NOT recommend Benefiber, as it is made of

something else and works differently.

As far as the vitamins are concerned, the One Source are just suggested

because they are a good, inexpensive multi-vitamin that is accessible

to most of us in the States. Any good multi-vitamin will do; I

personally have switched to one that I get at one of the warehouse

clubs.

I would call and ask the doctor about what to take instead of Metamucil and

the one source vitamins. God Bless.

Hi Judi:

I use any large bottle of vitamins with the added additives. I also take

additional calcium and B vitamins. I also took additional vitamin E and zinc

for a year after the MGB.

My husband was in Buffalo last week and bought my Citrucel there so I guess

it is back on the shelves.

I have used Metamucil but it does not work as well for me.

Once every three months or so we go to Buffalo and get Citrucel. I don't

know why it's not sold here in Canada.

Is Metamucil a substitute for Citrucel

I live in Canada and have been unable to find Citrucel here. Any

other post op's using the Metamucil? If not, what are you

substituting for the Citrucel. How about the vitamins. Cannot find

the One Source at Walmart here. Thanks for your input.

Hi,

Although these substitutions are not approved I have

been using the Metamucil wafers, they taste like

cookies and the apple ones are really good with peanut

butter onthem. I also have been taking the Centrum

chewable vitamins with minerals. I have found since

surgery I swallow too much air with pills so the

chewable things work better for me.

Hi Judi... I've been using benefibre since my surgery a year ago...

it's ok as a substitute, but does not have the same " coating " effect

that citrucel has and as for the vitamins... the once source at the US

Walmart has everything we need -- I have used different multivitamins

along the way. Originally I bought a bottle of one source in the

states and did a comparison with some others here but now I'm kind of

hooked on a childrens chewable. I think metamucil would be a fine

substitute and any good multivite will work....the most important part

is to TAKE THEM! best of luck hugs Kim

The manual says that Metamucil is a good substitute for Citrucell. I've found

that fiber capsule (Yerba-something brand from the vitamin store) have been very

helpful.

Can't you people in Canada order the vitamins and Citricel online from the

US. Just curious.
