Guest guest
You are so awesome. Keep working hard. 191 in a year is great. I hope to lose 60 by my year. I wish I could make a 100 mark but that's not gonna happen here. You are an inspiration. Guest guest
Hello, I do not understand why some people can lose almost 200 lbs in 1 year and others only 50? I know part of it has to do with how much weight you have to lose, exercise and eating but what other factors come into play?Kelli <psichikel@...> wrote: Well, what can I say about this past year....but it's been GREAT!!!! Guest guest
It just depends on the person, I never thought I'd lose this much weight in my life, but I have. I would think possibly age could be a major factor, I have not hit menapause from what I read is another factor in losing slower. Metabolism rates, so forth. I eat on a very strict diet, I've cut out all processed sugars as much as possible..no cookies, no cakes, no pies, no ice cream, not even once...it's not easy but it works for me. I get in natural sugars through fruits. So, don't know why others lose at a different rate...you have to find what works for you and stick with it. Best of Luck! > Well, what can I say about this past year....but it's been GREAT!!!! > Sure there have been the ups and downs with losing the weight, but the > positive's so outweigh the negatives! At least your 3hrs ahead of me, so you know it won't be the crack of dawn...lol. It has been amazing even to me, and I've enjoyed the energy I have now. I am eager to start a career in teaching, so I'll be hitting you up for some pointers!!! I plan on taking the CBEST, which will give me my emergency creds, then all Ihave to do is some paperwork and I'll be certified. I hope in time to work with deaf children, that is a goal of mine. Take care!! Good Luck with your infection, I didn't realize you were still battling it. > Well, what can I say about this past year....but it's been GREAT!!!! > Sure there have been the ups and downs with losing the weight, but the > positive's so outweigh the negatives! Guest guest
Hi Kelli, I'm not sure which state you're from, but when I got licensed in Oregon we had to take 3 different tests (all which came with a pretty hefty price tag, btw). One was the CBEST, one was the TSPC and I forgot the other one. The CBEST was ridiculously easy while the TSPC was ridiculously difficult. I remember a question from the CBEST went something like: There are 18 cartons of eggs in a crate, each carton containing 12 eggs. Mr. orders 4 crates, twice a week for his store. How many total eggs does he get? Not too difficult. The TSPC had about 2 million multiple choice, 1 million short answer, and 4 essay questions, and this all had to be completed within 4 hours. I remember a short answer question from the TSPC was something like: What was one result of the French/Mexican war? After using up my allotted 3 minutes per short answer contemplating whether or not I ever actually studied Mexican history, I wrote: Uh, there were a lot less French and Mexican people. Since we never get our tests back, only the results, I often wonder if I got any points for my answer. Guest guest
, I totally love your answer on the French/Mexican war...I'll remember that one!!! I live in California, so I know I'll have the CBEST but never heard of the TSPC, but I think my emergency creds last up to 4 years, so hopefully that will give me enough time to review the TSPC. Anywho, thanks for the heads up...I'll check with the university and see what they have to tell me. Again, the answer was " CLASSIC. Guest guest
Hi Shirley, Congratulations!!!!!! I quit last February and used also used the Commit lozenges. I stayed on them longer then suggested but cut them in half and then in 1/4. Then started " sneaking in " the hard peppermint candy to suck on. I started this process a month before surgery...and so I did not gain weight. However, I have not lost as much as you have. Still one of the very slow losers... Sorry that I don't have a better suggestion for you. You seem to be doing it right, and it is such a feather in your cap to stay off of the smokes. It is a temptation to go back to them, but realize that I need to treat this as an alcholic would treat a drink...if I take one...I will be back at it. This addictive personality is hard to handle sometimes. Keep up the good work...you are doing great. Don't be too hard on yourself if you gain a few pounds. The lap-band is there to help you and will keep you from going over the edge. Can you imagine how you would be without the band....and without having lost the 60 lbs already. Think positive. Guest guest
Thanks , That is a good idea to cut the lozenges in half, I had not thought of that. They can be expensive, but not as expensive as smoking. Are you free now or do you still want to smoke sometimes? I don't want to smoke but I don't want to start gaining the weight back as I still have another 40 lbs to lose but I knew that the band would help as for as not eating as much and you are right if I did not have the band I would have proably gained 60 instead of losing. Thanks again Shirley" B." <kede95@...> wrote: Hi Shirley,Congratulations!!!!!! I quit last February and usedalso used the Commit lozenges. I stayed on them longerthen suggested but cut them in half and then in 1/4.Then started "sneaking in" the hard peppermint candyto suck on. I started this process a month beforesurgery...and so I did not gain weight. However, Ihave not lost as much as you have. Still one of thevery slow losers...Sorry that I don't have a better suggestion for you.You seem to be doing it right, and it is such afeather in your cap to stay off of the smokes. It is atemptation to go back to them, but realize that I needto treat this as an alcholic would treat a drink...ifI take one...I will be back at it. This addictivepersonality is hard to handle sometimes.Keep up the good work...you are doing great. Don't betoo hard on yourself if you gain a few pounds. Thelap-band is there to help you and will keep you fromgoing over the edge. Can you imagine how you would bewithout the band....and without having lost the 60 lbsalready. Think positive. Guest guest
Hi again Shirley, To tell you the truth, I honestly hardly ever think about smoking anymore. At times if something stressful happens, it crosses my mind. If I had a pack in the house or was alway's around someone who smoked, I may have easily been tempted to take a drag....but so far so good...It has been almost a year. Give yourself a little more time to get past this addiction. Yes, you are right, with out the band, you would have gained all that extra weight...your are way ahead in both areas. Keep smiling... Guest guest
Shirley, I used a medication to quit, but I don't recommend it, but my friend used acupuncture and she says she gets it about every 4 to 6 weeks and she doesn't have any cravings. I would have given that a try if I thought I could find one where I live.
Guest guest
I tried that 15 years ago...and it did not help much at all...but it was never recommended to go back at all, no less every 4 to 6 weeks...everyone is different. Guest guest
Thanks Eileen, I don't know about being awesome but tenacious...yes! I think I have a bit of OCD, basically going from eating food with all gusto to now freaking out over calories, how much exercise I get in and all that stuff. I think sometimes you go from one extreme to another...and I think I fit that quite well. I constantly think about working out, and it's getting to the point where all the workers at the gym know me by name...and there's quite a few of them running around...lol. It was great meeting you as well, call when you are in town again and we will chit chat again. I will be visiting my cousin sometime in a couple of months for about a week, so perhaps we can meet up there. Take care!
