Guest guest
Dear , I certainly can relate to your story and your feelings---you're sick n' tired of BEING sick n' tired. I trust that the quality of your life will improve dramatically once you move forward with the Heller--but please make certain that you give yourself the necessary recovery time. Your age is certainly in your favor. Please do keep us posted. Wishing you restored good health, as quickly as possible! Guest guest
, Hi! I'm sorry to hear that you're having more swallowing troubles! Did you have your tests done at St. ? I forgot, who was your GI at Cleveland? We met Dr. Shay on our last visit there and we really liked him. Please keep us posted on how you're doing (glad you're back to the group)! I know you'll be in excellent hands with Dr. Rice! in Michigan (your SCS neighbor) > > Hi Everyone, It's been a while since I've posted and I'm catching up > on all the post's I've missed since I've been away from the board. > It's absolutly wonderful all the support we give to each other. > > Quick recap of my A life: I'm currently 23 yrs old... Guest guest
Hi ! I had my barium and manometry at St and they both showed an increase is severity since the last results in June 2005. So the disease is worsening. I have an appointment with Dr Rice on Monday (tomorrow). I was surprised that I got right away!!! My GI in Cleveland was Dr Vaezi which he has since left (he was wonderful). I think I'm sticking with the GI docs here in Michigan and will just be seeing the surgeon in Cleveland. I hope your husband is doing well! I'm sure you've updated, I'm trying to catch up since I'm only able to get online about once a week. So I'll have to check it out. I'll post about what happens in Cleveland tomorrow. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time!!!! from " The Shores of Lake St Clair " Michigan... and boy is it beautiful..MINUS the nasty fish flies EWWWWWYY!!! > , > Hi! Guest guest
, That's so great that you got in so quickly! Good luck tomorrow! I didn't realize the fish flies were out already (Yuck!). I guess they just haven't made it to my street, yet. > > Hi ! > I had my barium and manometry at St and they both showed an > increase is severity since the last results in June 2005. Guest guest
Hi Gayle, Hi drgioia75 (sorry I didn't catch your name) yes you recalled correctly, I'm a nurse and it gets hard at times when the nutrition level isn't at the best. It's great that your doing well after your myotomy, I sure have hope for the best outcome too! I'm sure I'll take the whole 2 weeks off, I lift way to much to be going back to work early. Talk to everyone tomorrow... Maybe I'll even have a surgery date in Michigan > If I recall you are a nurse - and its hard to help people feel better when you feel > sh*tty all the time - I am a dentist who had the heller May 2005 - and have felt much > better. Guest guest
Hey Amy, Nice to meet you. And congrats on your loss... 12 lb is a good start. And if your ultimate number sounds too big and overwhelming stick to small goals... I have two goal.... One is to weigh less on the next first of the month than I did this month on the first, and second to loose 5 lb. Next, right now I am debating if I should put $5 in a jar for every pound I loose.... Since I want to do this slow 1 to 2 lb a week, it should be possible to put $5 in a jar... Now if I would do a crash diet that would probably not work.... Anyway, I think I am going to set up a long term goal and once I reach that I get the money... Like every $100 (20 lb) I can take the money and get something new to wear.... Or what ever is on my mind .... But no matter what we do... Remember to post here... We will help you through tough moments... -- It's Time Hello Everyone...It's time that I speak up. I've been lurking for a bit. I know it may sound silly, but it's another year and here I am once again trying to make some changes. However, this time it's a bit different as I've been at it for a good month, having lost about 12 lbs so far. I have to say though, that I'm to the part where it's getting tough. I seem to have the hardest time making it past the 6 week mark... I start to fall off. I'm starting to feel that and wanted to reach out for more support and a place to type out my cravings than reach for the refrigerator. Give my fingers something else to do... LOLI belonged to this group a couple of years ago, but I think it was about the time I found out I was pregnant and so weight loss wasn't on my mind. I can't remember exactly, but I do know I was part of this group at some time.Anyway, I've been overweight my whole life. I have started so many "diets" and failed them, that it's so hard to even begin a new one because I fear failing AGAIN! But I just have to take this weight off. I would ultimately like to lose about 160 lbs. That just seems so overwhelming to me. I can't think about that number and I have to make mini goals of 10 lbs at a time. I was so excited when I met my first goal. I'm starting to slow down and things are getting harder now. But I really am determined. 1 meal at a time, 1 day at a time, and 1 lb at a time.I've never been one to read weight loss books, but I was wondering if anyone has read Dr Phil's Ultimate Weight Loss Solution? Is it motivating and helpful? And what about the Biggest Loser Cookbook? Anyone have that one? I need some good recipes.I'm in Missouri... anyone else from here?Take Care,Amy
Guest guest
> I have to say though, > that I'm to the part where it's getting tough. I seem to have the hardest > time making it past the 6 week mark... I start to fall off. I always laugh at those articles that say it takes only 3 weeks to make a habit ingrained. I know that 2 weeks, even 6 weeks, is not enough, especially if we don't see the results we expected. I'm starting to > feel that and wanted to reach out for more support and a place to type out > my cravings than reach for the refrigerator. Give my fingers something else > to do... LOL I found the greatest book this past fall called Our Lady of Weight Loss. If you visit her web site: http://www.ourladyofweightloss.com you can see how she encourages us to use our creativity instead of eating. She makes collages instead of snacking, and her book has other simple art projects she suggests to get started, like an dried macaroni alter made by gluing elbow macaroni to a box of mac and cheese, and a bracelet out of a tape measure. The point is to find something you can do and do that instead of eating, like art projects, knitting or sewing, even paint by numbers. The old "keep your hands busy" trick. And the book is funny, too. If you don't want to buy it ask your library to get it for you. You get a glimpse of her humor in her weekly newsletters, too. > Anyway, I've been overweight my whole life. I have started so many "diets" Remember that your metabolism is probably pretty low, because each time you start a new restricted calorie food plan you slow your metabolism a little bit more. Right now you would probably do best with a healthier food plan, just a little a bit lower in calories than you're eating now, but a lot more exercise to try to speed up your metabolism, and some weight training to build up more muscle, because muscle burns fat. Restricting your calories too much will only trigger your body to slow itself down even more, because it knows it's been put through periods of famine (dieting) before and doesn't like it and it has no idea how long this famine will last so it's going to try retain every calorie you put into it. > But I just have to take this weight off. I would ultimately > like to lose about 160 lbs. That just seems so overwhelming to me. To me, too. How realistic is that number? I'm a strong believer in genetics determining our size, so how big are the women in your family in past generations? Is your mother or father or grandparents big? Their siblings? If so, then you will probably be big, too, and never thin, no matter how hard you try. But you CAN be a bit lighter and lots healthier by eating healthier foods and getting the right amount of exercise in. Cut down on your saturated fats and simple sugars and eat the healthier fats, like olive oil and eat more fruits and vegetables, more whole grains instead of white breads and pasta. Eat more fiber rich foods and you'll feel fuller on less calories and have the added benefit of more natural nutrients instead of relying on "enriched" foods to add back what processing took away. And get moving! Put that baby in a carriage and get walking! Do some weight work while watching tv in the evening or when the baby is in bed or otherwise occupied. Go to "baby and me" type exercise and swimming programs. > I've never been one to read weight loss books, Then please, don't start! (Well, except for the one I suggested above, that is. It's about dieting in general, not any specific food plan.) Every book you read will tell you that IT is the perfect plan and promise miraculous weight loss. Sure, you'll follow all the little rules for that plan and lose a few pounds in the beginning, but in the end it's still just a restricted calorie food plan that will lead to a pound or 2 of weight loss per week as long as you follow it, and you already know how to do that. > I need some good recipes. You have a computer and access to a world full of recipes! Just go to a search engine like Google and start searching! Every one has been tested "tried and true" by *somebody* out there! Just putting "chicken" and "recipe" alone will bring up tens of thousand of sites with chicken recipes! And has hundreds of recipe lists to suit any taste. Our sister list, rsdeal has hundreds of recipes that all include nutritional information and Foodmover exchanges, and our own 100-plus had a pretty big selection of recipes in the Files section, too. Guest guest
WOW , that sounds AWESOME... ITs a great idea. The money in a jar. It would be great for something new to wear or something to make you feel pretty, like getting your nails done, or going to a tanning bed too... great idea!!! I'd be happy weighing around 150. But like I said, I'm not focusing on that, I'm focusing on smaller goals that I can achieve and feel good about. As I meet these little goals, I can find a weight that is good for me. I won't know what that is until I get there. No one in my family is my size. My Mom was always thin and then did gain quite a bit when she quit working. But 4 years ago, she lost it (100 lbs) in about a year's time and has kept it off. My Grandma is small, maybe 20 lbs over weight at her heaviest ever. Her Mom wasn't tiny, but no where near what I weigh. I've seen pictures of generations past and there is no one heavy like me. No siblings overweight either. No men in our family are more than 20-30 lbs over weight. I think that genetics does play a large role, but I really feel that for me it's nothing but laziness and excuses. Sad, but true... it is hard to say that. "You have a computer and access to a world full of recipes! Just go to a search engine like Google and start searching! Every one has been tested "tried and true" by *somebody* out there! I appreciate that, but I just don't have the time to surf the web through the thousands of recipes. I'm looking for a good cook book of healthy choices. There are just so many out there and I thought maybe someone could recommend a good one. I'll check out the files section. Amy

Guest guest
Hi Amy- I am glad you are finally speaking up! Congrats on the 12 lbs lost! How are you doing it this time: WW, food mover, other choices? Whatever you are doing, keep up the good work. How's exercise and water? You mentioned that it's starting to slow down now that you are a month into things, if you aren't already doing so... it might be time to add a little exercise. Or tweak it a little so you are doing more.... I've read Dr Phil's book - don't have the cookbook you mentioned. Dr P's book is "ok" - in your face like his shows LOL in my opinion - definitely nothing we don't already know, just a different approach. You might like it - see if your library has a copy you can borrow. I'm from Washington state - so not near you by a long shot.
