Guest guest
I thought I had recruitment before I was implanted until I read that super informative post by Alice!! I thought recruitment was the fact that sounds that were not normally too loud for others were painfully loud to me. Or maybe that is just one symptom....anyway...I have no recruitment with my CI. No recruitment, no feedback, no waxy ears...isn't it great?!!! Guest guest
I asked a few weeks back and their answer is yes. I also suffer terrible recruitment on my left ear. Not that much in my right ear. My left ear also have worse hearing loss, so it's unusable for speech. Regards/ Jerome Re: What Is Recruitment Alice, I suffer from recruitment (particularly in my left ear). Guest guest
, Yes, that *is* great!! <smile> Fortunately, I don't suffer from too many ear infections and every time my audi or ENT check my ears, they always look good. Such was not the case, however, when I was a child. I had ear infection after ear infection and nothing seemed to help them go away. I'm glad I've outgrown them and average only 1 per year (usually during the summer months).
Guest guest
People who have a CI no longer have the problem with recruitment. Guest guest
, Based on that informative post on recruitment, I'd hazard a guess that no, you would not suffer that with a CI. Sinply because the CI will " replace " the missing bands. I probably suffered that with the HAs but am now able to tolerate loud noise even when its unpleasant. Like bratty kids whose sound output is ALWAYS at least 85dB. LOL Seriously, the CI's built in sensitivity does a good job of dampening extreme noise. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Time flies like an arrow. Guest guest
, That's good to know. Fortunately, I haven't experienced any problems with recruitment until the past year or two. I gather that this *may* be due to my hearing getting worse. I'm not sure. But in any case, I'm glad loud sounds aren't painful with a CI -- especially an 85 dB scream of a bratty kid. Ouch!! Guest guest
, When I was at the CIAI convention in Minneapolis in 2002 (think it was 2002), I was walking Gimlet down to the park so she could relieve. Down on the corner from the hotel there was a street band. I did not stop to listen until the evening stroll because of the sun, so at that hour, I did not need my sunglasses and saw the band. Stopped to listen. It was awesome! I was maybe 20 feet away and just stood there, hearing and feeling the percussion. It really did feel good. If I was wearing HAs, I would have turned them off. Now I need a new stereo system, and I need some really good authentic African music CD's. I love percussion. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Two signs found on top of one another in a country kitchen several years ago: restrooms <----- Please wait for hostess to seat you. & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Portland, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rlclark77@... http://home.comcast.net/~rlclark77/ Re: What Is Recruitment , That's good to know.
