Guest guest
I didn't care for the women's book at all. I've had tremendous success with the original BFL book (more than once) by just following it to the tee. My only tweek is the Free Day... I have binging issues that can't cope with a whole day of free-for-all eating, so I limit myself to a free meal each week instead. But that's me. The most important thing is to just dive in head first right now. You can work out the bugs as you go. Best of luck to you!!! DeDe > Hello fellow Body for Lifers. Guest guest
Der , Welcome! Reading the messages on this board had me convinved that I wanted my lapband to be " done " by Dr. Aceves even before I had ever contacted Nina to begin making the arrangements. The respect and affection that his postop clients express here on a daily basis did a great deal to reassure me that God ( or whomever you choose) had pointed me in his direction. Once I had my first contact with Nina, who immediatly answered my questions, helped me come up with a surgery date that ( and on VERY short notice) that would allow me to be recovered in time for my daughter's wedding in a month ( gosh, 2 weeks away now, I'm going to have to turn in to hysterical mother-of-the-bride mode fairly soon, I think) I was even more convinced. I didn't have the chance to meet Nina in person, but her " helpers " - her mother Yoland and Aunt ( Dr. A's wife)who were filling in for her were so amazing that I think that they would be a tough act to follow. In fact, I think I would like to BE Yolanda- or work for her Every part of my banding experience both with the specific members of Dr. A's team, as well as with all of the other hospital staff- honestly made me wonder I have been spending so much money on medical care here in the States for so long, for the pleasure of being either ignored, treated like an annoyance in a waiting room, or just left waiting and wondering what was going to happen. When Dr. Aceves met with my mother and I preoperatively to explain the procedure in detail, and to make sure that we both understood completly all of the nuances of the procedure, the recovery, and what life would be like after the band, he spoke to me (us) with more attention, compassion and a true desire to make sure that ALl of our concerns were addressed than any other physician I have ever been treatd by. I hope that you get to be cared for by , as well. did everything he could to explain everything that was being done, every step of the way. Because I am an RN, explanations such as why I was being given an injection of an anticoagulant in my abdomen pre-op were not necessary for me, I not only understood, but was glad to know it was being done as a standard procedure- but he explained it all anyway- just the way I was taught to do in nursing school a zillion years ago, and just the way that I always try to do for MY patients, and exactly the opposite of the way that I have been treated by nurses in hospitals in the States. Not once did I or my mother ask a question or ask for ANYTHING and not have it immediately answered or addressed. Wonderful, wonderful group of caring professionals. Congratulations on having your surgery date set. The ONLY thing that I regret about the entire experience was that the night before surgery, staying in the gorgeous hotel, I didnt have the guts to put on a bathing suit in public and go take a dip in one of those incredibly inviting pools!!! Best wishes, and keep us posted! P in Northen Virginia > > Hi everybody. My name is . I have scheduled my surgery for > September 18th. Guest guest
Welcome , I had no problem keeping hydrated. I did have a problem walking through the airport smelling all the food and watching my husband eat, I was hungry! My scars are hardly there, And I can't even see a few of them any more at all. Trust me the scars are nothing. I was very tired and had some stomach grumbles. It wasn't really as bad as I thought is was going to be. I Had made plans prior to surgery to have my mom stay and help me for a week because I thought I was going to be laid up and miserable! I sent her home after the 2nd day 'cause I was feeling really fine. I was able to take my kids to school, clean a little and things like that. Now just to be clear! Everyone is different and some people have a different experience. Congrats on your surgery date and I wish you well. N. 290/189/170 DOB 9-20-05wendyelam81 <welam@...> wrote: Hi gang. My name is . Guest guest
Hi I'm also scheduled for the 25th and I know what you mean about badgering poor Nina. I'm sure I'm not finished with her either. I'll have to find a special token of my appreciation for her. I'll see you in the hallways after recovery! I'm not even thinking about the scars. Guest guest
Hey , I live in Goodyear. We are neighbors ; ). I quit somking and around the time I was banded. It was pretty hard. But I havent had a cig since June. Thats a victory. About the scars. I would rather have these tiny scars that all this fat any day. I am sure that with time they will fade and just be little pale lines. Are you flying in to San Diego? Just wondering. The drive to Mexico is about 2 - 3 hours depending on your speed. Just mourning the end of my scar free body, that’s all. Battle wounds I guess you could call them. I am flying into San Diego this time around. Will either fly again or drive for fills. Maybe we could drive together for fills. I figure if I’m going, might as well spend a day or two at the beach, so I might be flying over. We’ll see. So you had yours in June? Guest guest
Hi . I’ve made the decision to have the surgery regardless of the scars for exactly the reasons you mention. Better health and a happier me. . I was just asking for any advice on scar care if anybody has any and what to expect. Glad to hear they are minimal. That puts me at ease. And sadly, I can’t see the stretch marks unless I look in the mirror. LOL.. Thanks for the info. . Guest guest
Hi there . Thanks so much for answering my concerns. I can be prepared as I want, but it’s you guys and your words of wisdom that help me along. Airport food is too expensive, I’ll just keep telling myself that. Glad to hear the scars are minimal. That’s what everybody is saying. I’m much more at ease now. I took the week off from work even though I didn’t really think I’d need all that time. It was mostly just to get used to the liquid diet in private before trying it out in front of my co workers. I’m afraid I will try to drink too much and throw it up. These are the stories you read. So with no actual experience, I just see myself walking around with gaping scars and throwing up water. LOL. Not really, just little concerns tucked away, that’s all. You guys have all been so open and so helpful. I wish I was going tomorrow. Thanks, . Guest guest
Hi , I took 2 weeks off of work, but probably could have gone back after 1 week. In fact, I had a second job teaching computer hardware and did teach a night class exactly one week after surgery. I didn’t tell my co-workers I had the lapband. They did know I had some kind of abdominal surgery though, so I was able to explain the liquid diet. I basically bought a really nice metal thermos. Make sure it is metal on the inside, not plastic. Then you can either make your own broth or buy it by the can. Or do like I did and use the flavor packets from ramen noodles. It makes about 2 cups of brother, or put a little more water in if the salt is too high to make 2 ½ cups. Make a couple packets worth in the AM and put it in the thermos. It should get you through the day. Sip on some whenever you feel like it. Also bring some isopure to work with you. Change up the flavor of the broth often so you won’t get too sick of it. But believe me, by the end of the 2 weeks, you will never want to drink broth again! You will be so ready for milk based protein drinks! I recommend Supreme Whey from Walmart. Comes in a big tub with powder. Mix with non fat milk and drink up! Oh the scars, yeah you will have 5 small scars, the largest being approx 1 to 1 ½ inches. The rest being very small. I have tons of stretch marks, plus I had my gall bladder out so my tummy was already scarred up. When I can afford it I will be getting a tummy tuck anyway and most of the scars and stretch marks will be cut off. Oh bring the thermos with you so you can drink up at the airport and it will be nice and hot. Guest guest
and Sherrie: You will both have a very good experience. My surgery was Thursday 9/7 and today, 9/11, I went to the office and worked for about five hours. Didn't want to overdo it so I came home and took a nap--I LIKED that schedule! So far I am doing well with the liquids. My husband just fixed himself a hot dog with onions and it smelled so very, very good. I quickly mixed me an Unjury protein powder (Stawberry Sorbet flavor) and got through the crisis. :-) Best wishes. Guest guest
Hey Sherrie, I just ordered some Unjury and got a delivery yesterday. It tastes great. The flavors I ordered are Choc, Straw and Vanilla. I know they have one that is plain and you can mix it with water? or juice? That would be OK on the first clear liquid stage. I was banded July 20, 2005 and I am at goal. I just wanted something I can have in the AM that is low calorie, low carb and high protein. I have a real hard time wanting or tolerating much in the morning. The Unjury went down great and I really like it :0) I wish I had bought this when I was newly banded. I drank or you might say choked down the Isopure. This stuff is 100 times better. I wish you the best! Isn't the band awesome! Guest guest
Sherrie: Unjury is powdered protein drinks that I ordered from www.unjury.com. I ordered a box each of the individual packets to see how I liked them before spending a whole lot of money on them. Also, I can carry one or two in my purse while working and on the road. As of today, I have sampled them all. (Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate). The Strawberry Sorbet is clear. I mixed it with a lemon/lime flavored health drink. It was very tasty and my husband even said, " That's not bad. " For him that is a compliment. I mixed the vanilla with cold water and added crushed ice. It would taste better with milk in my third week as would the chocolate. But for now, I am getting the protein the best way I can. There is a clear liquid protein that is available on line. I have tasted the Blue Raspberry Swirl (thanks to Dee's generosity) and it was very, very good with crushed ice. I have ordered all three of their flavors. That website is www.idssports.com. They come in unbreakable vials that you can carry in your purse or keep in your desk and then add ice to drink. There are 25 grams of protein in each 2.9 oz. vial. I also purchased some vanilla and chocolate mix for my 3-5 weeks from the health food store. Another item I purchased from that store is a powdered mix called Green Vibrance. The Green vibrance is a vegetable supplement and you mix it with a fruit juice. It says it is to provide immune support, help your circulation, good for the heart, is an antioxidant, nerve support--and a partridge in a pear tree!!!!!LOL A 30-day supply cost me about $30 dollars. I'm going to try it tonite. I thought it couldn't hurt to get vegetable nutrients this month while I am on liquids. One tablespoon per day is all you need. I'll report back and let you know how that tastes. On 's advice I purchased the Ramen Noodle Soup mixes last night. Three days of low-fat chicken and vegetable broth (although good) got boring. I was surprised at the price. I purchased 7 packs for a dollar at my local grocery. I feel guilt throwing the noodles away and just using the sause mix for my broth. Oh well, better in the trash than on my hips! Be sure to stock up before your trip so that everything is in place when you get back home! >From: rdschroder71@... >Reply- > >Subject: Re: New girl on the block >Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2006 12:24:48 EDT > >Thank you ! >What is Unjury protein? Guest guest
Hey I ordered samples of the Unjury and also found the New Whey Liquid at http://www.wholesalesupplementstore.com for only $25 for 12 so that was a savings. Thanks so much for the info! Sherrie
Guest guest
Sherrie: The vegie stuff was mixed with a lemon/lime drink from the health food store. When mixed it is a dark green color and tasted like lemon barley. I got it down but it was not a pleasant tasting drink. It also, quite successfully, did the deed that most high fiber drinks do! And that's all I have to say about that! Guest guest
Too funny :-} I found something called at my healthfood center called "Green Lightning". Has over 50 fruit and vegetables. Mixes in anything you want. Thanks for suggesting we look into that part of our nutrition. Hope you are doing well. Sherrie
