Guest guest
To Louis: My thoughts are with you and your wife, I pray for peace and good health for your family. Best, Tamar Chansky Re: Bathroom OCD There was a post a few days ago about a 7 year old who couldn't " stop wiping " . THis is very common. Some other ideas are to ask your daughter when she's not in the bathroom, how she knows when to stop wiping- e.g., if the toilet paper is clean, after 2 wipes, after 1 wipe, whatever. You could stop there and reinforce her good information, tell her that it sounds like bathroom man is trying to keep her in the bathroom longer, wasting her time etc, and then put a chart in the bathroom which she can check off- how many times she listens to herself and wipes how much she wants, vs. how many times bathroom man wins and makes her waste time and paper. Or.. As strange as this next idea might sound... Lee Baer in his book Getting Control talks about asking a friend, coach, family member how they handle situations as a model for how much is enough of washing or checking etc. So you could also have your daughter do a little survey and ask parents and any other people who are " in " on the OCD who could be supportive of this- and ask them- how they know when to stop wiping. This way your daughter can then gather the info and say, well if everybody else is doing it this much but bathroom man is saying to do it this much then I'm going to break bathroom man's rules and only wipe as much as everyone else... Best of luck Tamar Chansky, Ph.D.

Guest guest
Thanks for the info on MCV/MCH. Mine have ALWAYS been low, since I was a teen & doctors could never tell me why. One thing to check though is if you are a carrier for thallessemia (a form of anemia), which you'd want to know if you are planning on having kids. Marcia hyperthyroidism wrote: MCV 79.1 (80.00-100.00) MCV is typically decreased in hypothyroidism. It refers to the size of the red blood cell. It's also decreased in iron deficiency anemia. MVH 25.8 (28-34) I think this is the same as MCH which refers to how dense or packed with hemoglobin the red cell is. Again, it's low in iron deficiency anemia. Guest guest
Hello ALL SURVIVORS of this set of physical circumstances we all share , in some way . I wrote a few times as my main concern was how to keep my funding going ,while I work at getting healthier. I haven`t found out any info re Workers Comp in Canada ,as its different in The USA. But, I know one thing you are all so supportive of each other ..its great! I went back to PT after not going for 7 months..I went the first 5 months and as I really lost a lot of my mobility in that time. I have foot drop with my right foot as my big toe drags. I sometimes have numbness and pain in my right foot. I always have pain in my groin, right hip..buttock, and leg to the knee. Sometimes ,I get pain on the left side. Sitting for me is about the worse and standing is next. The exercises I have been given over the last 2 weeks are one to just get the hip area a bit less rigid. I often get more Pain when doing them but, I know its the best thing I could have done ,to make a decsion to go back to PT. (the saying ,if you don`t use it you lose ,it must pertasin to more than one part of the anatomy) I go for 2 more epidural shots ..one in May and one in June. I got hurt 12 months ago in May. The surgeon I seen in Dec said he didn`t want to operate at this time. I am hoping after I have the allowed number of shots at the PAIn Clinic and tried everyhting else he`ll do the decompression and fusion. Its great to have such a supportive group where you can express yourself without fear of being judged. what a great lot of folks you are. It sounds like you need the laminectomy, but you might want to consider an endoscopic discectomy. You can check on it at sites such as www.drjho.com. It seems to be less invasive. Guest guest
Thanks Don. You're suggestion is right in line with my game plan. I have the flats, organic soil and wheat to make the wheatgrass and a dusty juicer (ahem!). The problem is, I live in the desert and healthy organic produce can be difficult to find. There are a few wilted things at the co-op (yech!) although they are getting a little better. I buy produce from the farmer's market, although there is not much in the way of organic fruits and vegetables and one must be careful not to buy produce from Mexico where DDT is still in use. I have some vegetable wash that is supposed to remove pesticides. Does anyone know how effective this type of wash is? Is there a home-made version that is as effective? If it's a toss up between yech and fresh looking store bought, I'll go with the store bought. Thanks, Hi , Not necessarily. If your bowels move just fine without the prune juice than leave it out. If your bowels aren't moving then you need to use the prune juice. Personally I would suggest that you do a juice fast using Celery, Parsley, Carrots and Beets. I would also suggest that you take 2 ounces of Wheat grass juice per day. Taking a tablespoonful of vinegar and honey will help to alkalinize your system. Drinking distilled water with lemon in it will help in removing excess mucus and dissolving inorganic minerals from the muscles and joints. Cut out all mucus forming foods and allow the healing to begin. You can overcome your rheumatoid arthritis just by changing your diet and doing the juicing cleanses. I would still suggest you use prune juice unless your bowels move easily. Peace be with you . -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai

I lived in Arid-zona for 7 years. If you can't get organic then do the best you can with what you have. I don't have much experience using vegetables washes as I only use soap and water. I do know that a little hydrogen peroxide added to the water with some lemon juice makes for a pretty good veggie wash. How effective it is at removing pesticides I don't really know. But if you wash with soap or (heaven forbid) use a detergent then you should not have any problems removing pesticides. -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai " Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man. As I have no experience in Kefir at present I can't really say on this one. Because you are only drinking such a small amount per day I wouldn't think that it would be too much of a problem and it is quite beneficial. But I do believe that you would be much better making your Kefir with raw organic milk than with enzyme dead milk. Of course if you can't get raw then pasteurized will have to do. ;-) If anyone is interested in Dom's Kefir site here is the URL: http://ftp.newave.net.au/~dna/Makekefir.html This guy knows Kefir for sure. Guest guest
Hi Bee thanks for your reply, My Dr. prescribed this drug I take it 2 times a day five days a week and I start after menses this is my 4th month taking it. I see improvement but I still have mild symptoms. I have been suffering since June 2003. I have tried a variety of different postpones including Diflucan. I have also tried taking oil of oregano and garlic etc while making a boric acid suppository. I feel better than I have in a long time, but again I'm not symptom free. If so, wha was your experience with it? Hi , I haven't taken it myself, but Nizoral causes liver problems in some people. If a person is going to take it a lab test for liver function should be done before starting treatment and every 30 days during treatment. A safer drug that is not invasive and doesn't cause liver problems is Nystatin (preferably the powdered form). Why do you ask about it? Guest guest
All, Three great things happened to me today - first the Kennedy article which I immediately posted to a number of friends for whom I had been attempting to condense EOH into a short presentable format that my brain could handle and that would work for their reasonably generous attention span. Fantastic article! Second I got a DAN appointment in the UK with Dr Heard! July 4 (wonderfully appropriate!) Third I read the link below and the long thread - if you get a minute I encourage you to read it - well researched and medically qualified posters putting rational arguments from our side of the issue. Perhaps its because I'm in the UK but I found it comforting and uplifting Simon (Rians Dad) Date: Wed, 15 Jun 2005 16:09:42 -0400 (EDT) From: Aasa <penas7ar@...> Subject: from BMJ's R.R.: Mercury dose in UK injection double that previously disclosed in some cases A response by Stone to the Hopkins Tanne article " Thiomersal doesn't cause developmental disorders " : http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/329/7466/588-b#109640 [This message contained attachments]

Guest guest
Louise, No problem, I just need to find them, I tend to make up a bunch at a time and then use it,so give a few days to track down my recepies. Most of them come from " Absolute Beauty by Raichur,Pratima) and are based on East Indian beauty. I use her recepies as a basic guide but also play arounda a little to mix and match to meet my needs. Once you buy the basics (which can be expensive the 1st time) it will last a long time and the cost evens out since you are not having it rebuy the supplies every time. The only item not in the book is the face wash my husband uses which is simply amaranth flour, mixed with water as a paste and then washed off. He has sentsative skin and acne and it helps keep his face happy. Kalinda > > >
Guest guest
Dear All, In light of the very positive responses I've gotten from those who've undergone revision, and considering that I'm a TOTAL grouch with my darling daughter, I think it best to at least see a couple of surgeons. Looking at my current financial situation, I think I could maybe travel in April. I apologize, but I cannot remember who posted that their surgeon kept them very heavily medicated for the first couple of postop days. I'd like the name & location of the surgeon. I was also wondering if anyone knows whether Boachie ever does revisions in one day or not. I know that he does consider posterior only at times. And if anyone had surgery at HSS & had small kids at the time, any input would be great. I remember that someone posted that their surgeon did many new, innovative procedures posteriorly, & uses the very latest technology. I would also like the name & location of this surgeon. It is starting to sound like I might possibly be able to find someone who could offer me some actual options, versus the standard revisions commonly done. And given that my condition is adversely affecting, not only my quality of life, but my daughter's as well, I think I need to be moving forward with this "quest". Yesterday, I was walking down the sidewalk with my little girl. We were having to walk further than what I can handle without being in serious pain. She asked if I would ever get better so I could be fun again. Then she looked up at me & said, "it would be just awesome if you could run Mommy. Running is so fun." So there you have it. Not only am I grouchy & short-tempered, but I am simply not fun. I've avoided pursuing this, partly b/c I thought revision would mean even more restrictions & deformity, with no guarantee of any real pain relief. I've also avoided proceeding b/c I felt pretty desperate a couple of months ago. I knew I was headed downhill & would have done almost anything to not end up suffering like I did a couple of years ago. I have deteriorated, unfortanately quite a bit since then, but, by God's grace, I do not feel as panicked/desperate as I did a few months ago. I am tired, exhausted in fact, of being in pain, looking old, feeling useless. But I'm not desperate anymore. And I want to make intelligent choices when deciding on surgeons to evaluate & potentially, treat me. I want the latest technology. I want the best techniques. I want the best possible results. I want excellent pain control. I want a kid-friendly hospital/staff. And I expect to be treated with respect, to be treated like a human being with valid concerns & questions. And, unless I cannot care for my daughter by myself, I will not settle for anything less. Blessings, Carla Kay Ps. 96:1,3, & 4a Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Guest guest
Hi Carla – My name is Lorrie Snyder and I had a revision surgery by Dr. Boachie on November 8th, 2005 – anterior and posterior done in 1 day – 10 ½ hours. I have a daughter who was about 20 months at the time of surgery and obviously she didn’t visit me. I didn’t see any young children at the hospital while I was walking around the corridors. How old is your daughter? The fact that my daughter is young was a major consideration in me going through with the surgery. I want to have fun in the future with my daughter and not be in any pain. I just envisioned her saying to me what your daughter said about “when I would be fun.” Right now she isn’t in school and my mom is still agile enough to help – she is 77. I live in land and after staying at my parents a couple of weeks after the surgery at their home on Long Island I came back to land with my mom is tow. She is still here but I plan to reluctantly let her go on February 9th. I know she wants to go home. I’ll manage somehow. I’m practicing dressing and diapering my little girl on the floor. We’ve been also trying to introduce the “potty” to her – the little potty on the floor. So with all this going on it is kind of time for her to learn about the potty! She is young but likes to get a sticker on her hand when she just sits on the potty. After my mom leaves I won’t be able to lift her into the high chair. She can climb up into a chair next to the kitchen table but that is only “when” she wants to climb up. I guess we will just have to have picnics on the floor for breakfast and lunch. I have to make sure I get up with my husband so he can lift Jill out of the crib. Right now she is napping in a play pen, so we will have to figure out something with a mat on the floor for her naps. I miss not going places in the car with her. I can’t lift her into the car seat and besides I’m not suppose to drive being on the Fentanyl patch. All in all I think these are minor setbacks and they are sure to get better. I do have my down days as I’m sure you have read. I get down, but I need to hear people say it will get better – it makes me feel better just to hear that. I have some anterior tightness across the side of my ribs. It almost feels like a terrible “stich” in my side as if I ran miles. I assume this is just the abdominals reconnecting. It really isn’t pain but very tight. This just started a couple of days ago. I see Dr. Boachie for my 4 month check up on March 17th. Let me know if you have any other questions. Lorrie From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of singer4jc7494@... Anything I can do to help just let me know! Colorado Springs Re: [ ] Digest Number 268 Dear All,In light of the very positive responses I've gotten from those who've undergone revision, and considering that I'm a TOTAL grouch with my darling daughter, I think it best to at least see a couple of surgeons. Looking at my current financial situation, I think I could maybe travel in April. I apologize, but I cannot remember who posted that their surgeon kept them very heavily medicated for the first couple of postop days. I'd like the name & location of the surgeon.I was also wondering if anyone knows whether Boachie ever does revisions in one day or not. I know that he does consider posterior only at times. And if anyone had surgery at HSS & had small kids at the time, any input would be great.I remember that someone posted that their surgeon did many new, innovative procedures posteriorly, & uses the very latest technology. Blessings,Carla KayPs. 96:1,3, & 4a Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
