Hi Ken, I wanted to wish you much luck with your surgery. You will

see that what everyone says about him and his staff is very true,

Nina, Yolanda and are super super nice, the hospital is

extremely clean and has everything you need and is very modern, not

what you would imagine a hospital in Mexico at all. I was very

impressed. Dr. Aceves and the 2 other doctors (the internist and the

anesthesiologist) are also very nice and very thorough. I was banded

on May 11th (2 1/2 weeks now, and for me the first two weeks were

hard, but not as hard as I have read it has been for others, I have

basically not been too hungry. I am now in the liquid stage and this

part is a little easier. I have had more complications than most as

I'm still in quite a bit of pain from my shoulder, my back and I get

a side stitch (which I think is muscular), but again, I think I'm an

exception, and not the rule, for the most part, most people are not

in too much pain, however, do keep in mind that all these pains are

normal and do not mean there is anything wrong (even though I have

wondered that very same thing myself). I have found it very useful

to go back to the posts whenever I feel anything new, it reminds me

that all these little aches and pains are normal and related to the

surgery. Best of luck Ken, hope you have a great experience in

Mexico. Rosie

Thanks Rosie: I have found that this whole thing is becoming all-consuming. I check the message board through-out the day hoping to gleen any new tid-bit of information that I can. I'm starting to make my wife mad. She doesn't understand the change in life that is going to take place. Food has been my "fix" for most of my life and it is scary thinking of not eating like i always have. I know that there will be times that mentally I will want food just from habit, thats when I need to head straight out the door and go for a walk. I have read all of your post 'bout your pain. It sounds like thing have inproved a lot for you. I have a very high toloerance of pain ( I think life as a big person makes a lot of us that way) so I'm not to concerned about pain. My big concern is feeling the band or port later on after Ive healed, I keep thinking that it could be like a big mequito-bite that you cant stop

scrathching. Does the port bother you much still and do you feel it when you bend or stretch etc.? Thanks again for the kind words Ken <roanch@...> wrote: Hi Ken, I wanted to wish you much luck with your surgery. Hi Ken, Actually I don't feel the port at all. I know its there because

right around that area it feels a little harder and also a little sore if I

touch hard enough, but then again, I don't have that much weight too loose,

so I imagine my port is a little more " out " than say for someone with more

weight to loose. But to simply answer your question, no, I don't really

feel it. I've even began sleeping on my belly and that doesn't bother me.

The port is sewn to a muscle in your stomach, so when yuo bend or stretch,

you do feel a little tugging, but no big deal. The good news for me is that

I'm feeling a lot better. I still get a side stitch here and there, but

nothing I can't handle at this point. My shoulder pain is soooo much

better, I was basically pain free all day yesterday which is a huge

accomplishment, but I think because I felt better yesterday, I may have

overdone it working and so forth, so I'm a little sore today and over all a

little wore out, but feeling much much better.

Hi Ken

You are in for a great treat! You have figured out a lot of things

that many of us didn't have figured out and so you are way ahead of

many of us! As far as missing your friend--food: yes your head

hunger will still be there but the big surprise to me was how my

attitude toward food has changed (and very quickly I might add).

You are no longer consumed with thoughts of food, what to eat for

supper, when/where/what I can eat for lunch, etc.,etc. my fill Dr.

says don't eat unless you are hungry and I am going with that

philosophy. I don't even think about food (and sometimes drink--

unfortunately) until 2 or 3 PM. I think the biggest problem I have

is when we travel or are staying with family and they expect to eat

3 meals a day. I go to the restaurants and kind of feel like I

should eat something and many times do with bad results (PBing

because I ate too fast or too much!).

Your other worry about the port is a non issue. After a few months--

when all healed you can not feel it internally at all. I can feel

it if I run my hands across it on my stomach but it does not itch

(it's under your skin attached to a muscle I think) and there is no

pain or anything. I think I could go tubing as someone mentioned

without ever remembering I had a port.

Congratulations on beginning this great weight loss journey. You

will do great!
