Guest guest
Shari, I use the Nucleus. I have the BWP but wear the 3G exclusively. What would you like to know? Guest guest
Thank you Sharon & Alice for the warm welcome I'm hoping to absorb information from this list and maybe be able to make a decision on which implant I'd like to have implanted, from hearing how each of you are doing with yours and what you like about it. I sure don't plan to start any " brand wars " , just hope to get info so I can make an informed choice. I am going to try out some digital hearing aids next week. Supposedly very unique ones that push the higher frequency sounds into the lower frequency for hearing. I tried these aids out at the convention and wore them for about 15 min. I heard things I had no idea what they were and it felt like I was getting a mini taste of what getting used to a CI is all about. It sounded so beautiful tho! Now trying them out in the 'real world'. There is only one company that makes hearing aids like this, and it will be my final " last ditch " attempt before getting a CI. I've learned from everyone in here that you try everything else first, before you go for a CI, because it's not reversible. So, this is my last try for hearing aids......we'll see how they work! Sharon, have you told everyone that you got a certificate from the pilot of Southwest??? Personalized with your name and all....it congratulates you on your first flight I thought that was SO COOL, lol. Alice, I sure did miss you this year. Seeing others with a CI made me think of you, and I know you really wanted to come. Try hard to come to D.C. next year, it'll be a BIG ONE! (pssstt, I've heard that some ppl are gonna make hotel reservations SOON !!). Thanks again for the warm welcome, I really enjoy reading everyone's posts Shari > Welcome to Shari. I was really surprised to see this and it is such a lovely post. Keep them coming. > > I am sorry about your hand but it came in handy on the plane. Thanks! I may have to borrow the other one the next flight but I think I will be ok. I will never forget you telling me to breath. " Breath Sharon, breath! and open your eyes! " . At the time it was not funny but I remember thinking " are we in labor here? " . I came close to passing out at take off but I made it. My arms were so heavy I could not lift them. Those turns in the sky was breathtakers too. At our first landing I think I had better brakes than the pilot. " Whoa here whoa " . I will proudly frame my certificate I got from the pilot and think of our flight each time I see it hung on the wall. > > I know your heart is still in Nashville and I am waiting for the day when you will move back " home " . You can count on me being there at Vanderbilt for your surgery when you are ready for it. It is the least I can do to try to repay you for everything you have done for me. Who would have thought meeting in HearingExchange chat room would change our lives forever? I went in looking for information and answers about CI and I came out with a lot of friends. It is always good to meet in person and really get to know them. > > .....Welcome to . I read your post about your flight. I turned my CI's off and did not have a problem. It scared me the first time I went through because I was totally deaf without my bilateral cochlear implants but the guard motioned me on through so I guess it did not beep. > > I remember meeting a lady at the Verizon booth at the convention. I told one of the children those flashlights and pens were free. Was that you? > > Sharon Myers > Bilateral N24C 3G
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the info about your CI. I'm trying to finally write down which CI's can stay if you have an MRI. How long is the average time between battery changes? General info like that will help me to make an informed decision. Thanks for offering your help! Shari > Shari, > I use the Nucleus. Guest guest
The Nucleus is FDA approved for a full strength MRI. The implant stays where it is supposed to but the magnet is taken out with a tiny incision, only a local is needed. There is some swelling after the fresh magnet is put in so some people may need as long as a week to wear the head coil again. I've had 2 recommendations for an MRI after I was implanted but they weren't life threatening so I didn't go for them. Battery life? I couldn't tell you average although you might be able to find this info on Cochlear's website. I use the 3G with the ACE strategy at 720 Hz and 12 maxima. I am usually in very noisy conditions and I get three full days out of my three #675 batteries. I am very happy with my battery life. I was getting 2 1/2 days a while back but I had my audie lower the power level on my map. It was only lowered a little but I didn't sacrifice any sound quality so I tried it. Lowering it further would have increased my battery life but I could tell a difference in sound. So much goes into what makes the batteries last long or not so don't go only by what I say. Your skin flap thickness, the weather, the amount of sound coming in, the strategy you like, etc are all factors.
