Guest guest
Hi Jerome: Yes, I believe that's true. The reason I said that is when I had my HAs programmed and leave the clinic, it was always a problems and had to ended up and go back reprogrammed again to a comfort level. With CI, I have had no problem at all. What I am saying that I do know that CI mappings is much better than having HAs programmed. I am able to understand what people are saying on TV but it is not perfect. For some reasons, I do very well listening on the radio and doing book on tape with CD Walkman. I can pick up what people are saying from another room. I do talk on the phone and is doing very well with it. I have to admit that you will do nothing wrong with CI. Debbie B. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Do you mean that mapping in CI is much easier than programming hearing aids? I'm not sure what you mean by " better " whether it means easier or more advance? Are you able to understand what's being said on TV? Regards/ Jerome Re: audiologist factor Jerome: I was born deaf since birth and have worn HAs all my life. I speaks very well and have had a lot of speech training. My hearing really did fool the hearing folks and especially the professionals who work with those with hearing losses. I have had programmable HAs and I have had few audiologists who couldn't get the programs set up. It wasn't till the audiologist from the HAs manufacturer who was in my town and sure enough she fixed the problem. I was very happy and each time she's in town, I would be contacted and see if I need any adjustments to be made. Speaking of CI, I have had mine for 9 months now and have been very pleased with it. My respective audiologist is very knowledge in programming and have not had any problem with it. To answer to your question if programming CI is a lot harder than hearing aid programming, I would have to say in my opinion that CI mappings is even much better. I am doing so well with mine and I have exceeded my exceptions since the first initial hookup. I have had people telling me that my speech has greatly improved in person or even on the phone. I strongly believe that most people with CI have been very pleased with the decision they have made and knowing it takes some time for the improvement. I strongly think you have nothing to lose once you go with the CI and whichever brand you have selected. Debbie B.
Guest guest
Jerome, You cannot compare hearing aid programing to CI programming. Apples and oranges. Dont blame the audiologist. It IS an individual thing. Our ears are not alike. Kepe in mind that with HAs, thye are programmed to enhance whatever remiang hearing one has. It simply amplifies sound. The CI is mapped to give back the full range of hearing. While the same factors may be involved in the programming as HAs, you just cannot and should not compare the 2 devices. Apples and oranges. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Don't take life too seriously, you won't get out alive. & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Portland, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rlclark77@... http://home.comcast.net/~rlclark77/
Guest guest
Jerome-- I dont know about the Clarion or the Medel but I do know that the Nucleus 24 has over 400,000 different possibilities in a map . So it may take a while for a CI recipient to find that " perfect " map. But if the audiologist knows what he/she is doing, then a terrific map can be created in no time and the CIer can go about enjoying his/her world. There are all kinds of factors that goes into the success of a cochlear implant. -- Snoopy bilateral RI
