Dixie....the headphones that come with the Walkman are lousy ( JMHO) and you want to buy better ones....I have Radio Shack brand headphones. They are very comfortable! Very lightweight and have a long cord. On the Walkman there is a jack with a little picture above it of headphones ( very small). That is where you plug things in. There are two jacks and only one will work with the patch cord or headphones....the other jack is for other types of things......and your headphones and patch cord will not go into it. You don't have to worry about using the wrong jack. Lots of cool things in your future....take it slow and enjoy! : ) Deb H

Hi ......the plug and play on the Clarions does the same thing....you can set it up to get absolutely nothing except what you want to hear. You can't even hear your own voice! I know we can change the mic settings to make it so you can hear things if you want....lots of settings to choose from. I will use the direct connect in the car with my husband driving and listening to his music...he doesn't like rock n roll and I am not fond of Pavarotti singing Italian ballads lol....so I happily listen to Fleetwood Mac while he listens to his zzzzzzz music! : ) Deb H
Guest guest
I can answer that for you, Dixie. The headphones that you want have a large cup and do not interfere with the processor. I have some myself. I got them from Radio Shack. You are correct about the headphone connecting to the disc player. Alice Deb and walkman Hi Deb, I'll be getting the BTE nucleus 24C and wondering about those headphones you mentioned. Do the headphones press against your processor and hurt your ear when you wear them? The sony model I mentioned earlier comes with headphones. I'm wondering if these headphones would be comfortable to wear for long periods of time with the processor. Also, where the headphones connect to the disk player....is that where the patch cord would be located to plug into the processor? Let me know what type of headphones you purchased so I can try them out with my old behind the ear aid and see how they feel with the bulk of the aid. Thanks, Dixie
Guest guest
Hello all, I've been following this thread somewhat loosely, and wanted to chime in. With the MED-EL, they give you a patch cord that can be plugged into any audio output jack that is NOT plugged into a standard wall outlet (electrical surges can damage the processor). I've used mine with my laptop, a CD Walkman, and even aboard the planes when I fly (although not recommended by the company). It is pretty neat because I can choose whether I want to listen to the patch cord and everything around me, or turn down the microphone sensitivity and focus only on what is coming in from the audio jack, blocking out any sounds in the environment. Sure is relaxing on those long cross-country flights! MED-EL warned me to use only battery operated electronic devices with the patch cord because of the risk of surges damaging the processor if plugged into the wall. For example, if I plugged my patch cord into a small TV or a desktop computer, there is a risk of power surges. When I inquired about the use of the patch cord plugged into the audio jack on a plane, they couldn't recommend it because they've never tested the situation before, so were unable to determine what the possible consequences were. Especially if you flew through an electrical storm - yikes! Some food for thought. ~Andy MED-EL Tempo+, 5/00 Spinal Meningitis at age 6 mo. Guest guest
Hi Andy, Thanks for joining in. It's likewise with the Nucleus. Many of us do not use the patchcord. We just plug the headphones into the cd/tape player itself and put the headphones over our ears listening without a direct attachment to the electronic equipment. You are right.. you should not use a direct connection to the processor from the electronic device. In that case.. you should always use the patchord. Good advice. Dixie - all of this information is in a booklet you will get with your processor and if you have any questions, the audiologist will be glad to explain things to you. Guest guest
That's the type of headphones I use too. They are very lightweight with a large ear cup and padded nicely on the inside and got them at WalMart for right around $20 bucks.. They work great.. pretty much covering the entire ear, processor and all. The one advantage of using the cable that is specially made for the Nucleus is that you can put your ci on telecoil and not get any other outside noise. I did this for awhile when I was first starting to understand music because hubby liked to listen to his music on the radio and I could listen to mine without having his music drown mine out. Now I have adjusted so I don't need to do that and I do think the headphones are more comfy than hooking the cable directly from walkman/cd player to the processor. Guest guest
Deb, I was sure they were all similar.. I was referring to the advantage of the cable vs the headphones.. Not comparing ci brands. it's really a great option for those who can't hear well with other nosie yet.. I don't like not hearing my own voice though so have always used a mixed t-coil for phone use. Guest guest
Patch cords are available with surge suppressors which prevent any damage when device is line powered.
