Eager to get on the plane!

I'd like to introduce myself to you all, as I've been lurking, reading, and researching voraciously, but now that I have a plane ticket and a surgery date, here I am "out" in public so to speak.I am 45, a psychiatric RN, very happily married in spite of my appearance, with 2 children- a lovely 20 year old daughter who is getting married August 19th, and an adorable son who has just turned six.I started dieting when I was a young teenager, and weighed 130 pounds. I have been involved in TOPS (take off pounds sensibly) Weight Watchers ( at least 6 or seven different attempts over the years) and I have tried Slim Fast, Optifast, Atkins, South Beach, and so on, and so on, and so on. My current and SOON-To-Be-EX weight is 270 lbs, at 5'3" that makes me just about able to fit in a Ford Explorer. If my legs were longer, I might be able to move the drivers seat back far enough to have my feet reach the gas and brakes WITHOUT having my belly interfere with the steering wheels ability to turn.My health plan, CIGNA, has stated that although I have sleep apnea and use CPAP ( for the past seven years) severe fatique and joint pain, respiratory distress if I try to walk a block, and so on, and so on, that they will not pay for any bariatric procedures, and that if I go to my primary care physician to be weighed weekly for 26 MONTHS , they will THEn allow me to file an appeal.I am not able to do that. I feel as though I am at complete rock bottom, like an alcoholic ready to go to rehab, or a person having chest pain who has been told to try aspirin for a few years, and to come back then to see if their heart is still beating. I am SO thrilled, so excited about the new life that I am beginning, that I can hardly stand it. My family is a bit uneasy, saying, MEXICO? From everything I've read, and especially after finding Dr. Aceves and reading all of the posts on this message board, I already KNOW that this is where I need to be. My mother is coming with me, partly to help me on the way home to Virginia, and I think partly to make sure that this is not a scam in which I will be sold into white slavery. This is especially amusing after viewing my current photos, which I just posted :) Thanks so much in advance to Nina, for all of your assistance in helping me to facilitate this process. And thank you to all of your who have shared your experiences in this medium, giving me the courage to take this step.Just knowing that the beginning is in sight has made it a breeze to stick religiously to the pre-op liver shrinking diet. I've been averaging 70 gm Protein and 20 gm carbs, staying as fat free as boneless skinless chicken breast can be! You have done your homework. Dr A is great at what he does. I was banded on June 9th and I have no regrets. I"ve losted about 33 lbs to date ( pretty simple to do when you start out at 370 and have a band helping you). You will get the "jitters" but stick with your decision. The trip to Mexico will be very restful and you probably wont want to go home when its time. Good Luck. Kenorrbefore <susan@...> wrote: I'd like to introduce myself to you all, as I've

Molly....You have done great with your weight loss!!!!

I also worked for 4 years in a nursing home, on the dementia/psych unit!! They are wonderfully entertaining at times aren't they??!!LOL...I now work in an assisted living and also work for a homecare company doing skilled nursing visits. Some of my patients are just like the dementia/psych unit pts, just not locked up!:) Nice to hear from you, keep up the good work!! At weight loss and on the psych floor!! Dana

Dear Dana,

My husband insists that this must be a scam. Why would this be such

a reasonably priced procedure, with such excellent care and results,

etc, blah blah blah. He is not convinced that this is not a " scam "

with photographs (before and after) of " con men and women " . Darn,

if I had known that I could have been making a living posing as the

blob in a before picture, I'd have been living the high life! I also

told him that after looking at the before pictures that he took of

me the other night and I posted here, frankly, I'm a bit surprised

that someone from Dr. Aceves staff had not just driven up here and

picked me up years ago....you know, as in " listen, lady, you are

coming with us. Clearly you cannot be left to your own devices " . He

then suggested that the site was too well " advertised " and I pointed

out that I never received a single spam email promising

to ....er....reduce the size of my organ(s). :)

P.

>

> Hi ! Congratulations on your surgery date!! This week!!

You'll be there and home before you know it!!

> I just returned for the 2nd time, July 8th, I took my daughter

for her surgery and it was fantastic!! Even better than my

surgery/trip in Feb was! They are wonderful, they really are and so

attentive!! I had to laugh with you mom's comment on " white

slavery " !!LOL.. My husband swore my friend Betty (who had surgery

with me) and I were going to be captured by the " sex slave ring "

> HA...HA...HA....How sexy is two obese women on there way to have

bariatric surgery??!!!! " Yea hunny, I'm sure they want OUR bodies "

LOL.......:)

> The trip wasn't even close to any of these " fears " most of us have

about a " 3rd world country " It was great and every one I meet was

friendly and helpful, Yolanda even took us to the local mall to shop

and I never felt like I was in " Danger " at all!! Betty and I also

thought of the possibility of the hospital being a " Hole in the

wall " or worse, and had an escape plan if we needed it! but

> thankfully, we never used it!! It is a small local hospital with

an ER, small NICU, and handle cardiac patients ect. I was impressed

with the constant cleaning, it was spotless!! It is newly remodled

with leather sofas in the rooms, all private rooms too!! Don't worry

about a thing!! Once you arrive you'll see, and your mother will

too!! You won't be disapointed!! The best of luck, and a speedy

recovery!! Let us know how it goes ok?

,

You made me laugh. I have always heard dhat a true Southern Belle can

deliver the worst insults in the world and NOT offend a soul, as long as the

insult is preceded or followed with the " Bless Your Heart " term.

I know your will have a safe journey and wonderful outcome.

Best Wishes! Let us hear from you as soon as you return.

HI , My husband says your husband can call him anytime to talk about the band and Mexico! He has a totally different view on it since my daughter and I had it done. 1-410-360-6053. We live in Pasadena, land. Also, I had a lady call me, and she asked all the things that all of us were concerned about with the trip, pain, hospital, is it clean?, what about the doctor ect.......( Nina asked if I would talk to her because she wanted to talk to someone from land) She ended up living about 10 minutes from me, just outside of polis! Small world.. I also know of 2 ladies in Owings Mills, near Baltimore, who also had the surgery with Dr. Aceves!! We all can't be getting paid for this, can we??? Have him call after 5pm during the week, anytime on the weekend ok?

He has a job with the Cable company , Not Dr. Aceves...ha...ha....talk to you soon.Dana

, I feel fine, I was up walking the same day as the surgery. You will find the first few days the worst of them all and they are really not that bad. I went back to work in 7 days. I don't do lifting or stairs too much, but for the most part I am back to me. I am a little lacking in the energy department, I think thats due to the liquid diet. Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. You won't regret the surgery...I don't! orrbefore <susan@...> wrote: > I'd like to introduce myself to you all, as I've been lurking, > reading, and researching voraciously, but now that I have a plane > ticket and a surgery date, here I am "out" in public so to speak.> > I am 45, a psychiatric RN, very happily married in spite of my > appearance, with 2 children- a lovely 20 year old daughter who is > getting married August 19th, and an adorable son who has just turned > six.> > I
