Guest guest
The Softip was designed because Cochlear believes that it is important to reduce the potential for damaging the delicate structures as the electrode array is being threaded into the cochlea. Cochlear also trains surgeons in a special technique to insert the array. That doesn't mean that not having the Softip means you will have damage! But Cochlear saw a way to reduce potential damage and went for it for the benefit of it's implant users. Our friend Marty is the first one to have it on the East Coast!! Guest guest
Yeah, the Softip thing makes N24C the least traumatic compare to other brand's electrode. At first I thought it was due to contour thing, but it's not, it's the Softip... I have a Powerpoint document comparing all those electrodes, the trauma it gives to the cochlea. Anyone interested can email me privately. Regards/ Jerome
Guest guest
In what year did Cochlear start dispensing implants that minimize damage to the cochlear? Guest guest
Nucleus24 Contour with the Soft-tip is new, not sure when but recent enough that not all places offer it yet (although FDA approved) Re: Nucleus 24 softip > The Softip was designed because Cochlear believes that it is important to > reduce the potential for damaging the delicate structures as the electrode array > is being threaded into the cochlea. Guest guest
To anyone who's going to get Nucleus anytime soon, make sure you get the softip version if allowed. The softip has the least trauma in all electrodes available in the industry right now. Guest guest
do you still have that study you were talking about jerome? Guest guest
I have auditory dys-synchrony and neuropathy. I'm getting the cochlear implant on my left ear. they're saying it will fire up the auditory nerve and improve the signal going to the brain sot aht I'd be better able to understand speech. Isn't that what the cochlear implant is for? Nobody ever mentioned a BARA to me. Guest guest
Trish, If your doctor did not mention the BAHA to you, it is very likely that you would not be a candidate for one. From what I understand, most people who qualify for a CI aren't. Alice
Guest guest
Alice, I asked the audi about a hearing aid implant months ago. She told me in my case it owuldn't work because it would only amplify the sound, which is not waht I need. What I want to know is will the CI help with a condition like mine. they tell me that AD and AN aren't all that common.
