Guest guest
Nina, I know I didn't stay on the clear liquids for the full two weeks, actually just one week, and I gradually added fuller liquids into my diet, I hope I haven't damaged my band. I went and had my chiropracter xray it yesterday, and it was still in the same place, I am strickly staying on full liquids from now until my two weeks is up. Sorry. Tracie B. Post op diet I do not mean to sound like my grandmother but I am concerned about patients not following the post op diet. So I am going to have to I am sure Dr. Aceves told you that the first 4 weeks is about healing and fixing the band in it's place. I am sure because I heard him explain this maybe 200 times! It is hard for some people and easy on others but it will help avoid problems in the future. Remember that after surgery the only thing holding the band in its place is a couple of stitches. You do not want to stress(stretch) the new stomach (pouch) and cause problems to the stitches. Scar tissue will forms around the band, if you follow your diet and the slippage is less likely to happen. You won't notice the effects immediately but this is for the future. It is just 2 weeks on the clear liquid and 2 more on the mushy stuff. Eat jello to help with the hunger and drink drink drink, all day if necessary, it is good for you. Guest guest
Really good advice Nina, I am 13 days postop and one more day on clear liquids. I agree that the secret to getting through the first two weeks is to drink plenty of fluids. I do feel restriction and have since the first day but do recognize the feeling when I am empty and need to eat something. It took me awhile to realize the diiference between that feeling and hunger pangs which I have only had once on day11 and I think that is because the swelling is going down around the band. I just increased my liquid intake and no more problems. I am looking forward to starting yogurt ,cream soups and so forth. I am down 13 ponds and so excited about this whole process. Feeling great ,back at work full time with only normal fatigue. Nina , Marie says to say hello. Guest guest
Hi, 2wks clear liquids: like water, jello, tea, broth, gatorade, apple juice, white grape juice, crystal light, popsicles, clear protein drinks ect.... 2wks full liquids: all the above plus yogurt, pudding, cream soups, protein drinks(any kind), blended cottage cheese, milk ect... 2wks mushies: all of the above plus fruit, eggs, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, oatmeal, califlower, (anything you can mash with a fork) 1 wk: all the above plus add soft foods like boiled chicken, ground beef mixed with gravy or sauce, tuna, soft veggies ect By 7 wks post-op you can try full solids: like a tiny peice of steak, pork, harder veggies like broccoli ect. During these weeks it's all about healing the band. any weight loss is a bonus until your 1st fill. Your first fill can be scheduled 6-8 wks after surgery. Some of the above foods will be easy to eat, some may be difficult to eat. Go back to a previous softer stages if needed any time you feel you are having trouble with a new food then try again in a few days. You may drink freely during these weeks. The weeks will fly by, it may be trying at times but well worth it! Guest guest
Basically it is 2 weeks clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, and 2 weeks mushies. You can find the post op diet under the files section of the site. And I put up my version of it since it is kinda confusing. Guest guest
During the post-op try to focus on fluids, juices, Gatorade, broth, tea & water. You can add in the creamed soups, yogurt, pudding and powdered protein mixed with milk or water now. Take everything in very small amounts, but frequently- every 3-5 minutes take a sip or bite of something. I don't think many of us hit 800 calories during this time. Also, liquid-clear protein drinks helped many with the fatigue. Isopure & powder protein is at health food store....Tasty?? it's your call, but it does help. I am 16 months banded and probably average 1,000+ calories a day...not really sure anymore, but surely more then 800. As time goes by you'll know how many calories your able to have & still lose. Good luck on your new journey! Dana -------------- Original message -------------- From: "nativenewwyorker07" <nativenewwyorker07@...> During the liquid and full liquid stage should we still be trying totake in 600-800 calories a day? During the entire weight loss perioddo we take in 600 - 800 calories a day? I'm lucky to take in 200calories a day, but I'm starting to feel pretty weak. I am 16 dayspost op.
