i have had my band since the end of march - i have had 3 fills and need another one - is there anyone else out there who has to keep going back so soon? my fills have been as follows: may 1.3cc june .8 cc july .2 cc august - sheduled to go back again either this weekend or next i have a band that holds 4 cc's - and the thought of driving to mexicali in this heat - is not appealing - it takes an entire day to get there, wait and get back. caprise

Caprise,

honestly I know you aren’t saying you expected to have perfect

restriction when I know that you have heard me say (and others on this list)

that it could take 5 (or more) fills to get to the perfect fill. If you take a

look at my web site you will see I had my fills one right after the other the

first 2 months. I expected that in the beginning until I got to my sweet spot. In

fact, I budgeted for my fills in my financing for my surgery and had the money

set aside for 6 fills just in case. I advise all newbies to do that same when

preparing for this surgery. Luckily I have only needed 4 and I will probably be

going in for a check up soon.  I know it can be frustrating to not have

restriction. My first fill didn’t do a thing for me after a couple weeks

it felt like I never had surgery. But I wasn’t giving up because I knew

the only way to remedy the situation was to schedule a fill. My last fill was

only .2 and that was what I needed to get to my sweet spot for that time.  I

have read on obesityhelp.com where some have had quite a struggle with fills

and unfills, some as many as 8 or 10, until they found their sweet spot. I was

one of the lucky ones who had an aggressive fill doc from the beginning, plus

getting them under fluoro is helpful for you and the doc to actually “see”

the restriction and know the band is working. I wish you luck in finding your

sweet spot but I also hope you find some patience.

money for surgery, have the surgey and not getting the restriction i had

I have a question. I had my first fill last month and didn't feel too many restrictions. 1 cc, however I do get hungry but, when I go to eat I can't get too much down. Now my question is when you guys go back for fills is it because, you are feeling hungry or because you are able to eat, eat, eat and not getting full? I just don't see how you can eat when the band doesn't let you get much down. I'm a little confused. I don't know when I'm suppose to go back for a fill. When I feel hungry or when I can get alot of food down? Help!!!!Kari041@... wrote: In a message dated 8/24/2006 6:44:10 P.M. I usually know it's time for a fill when I can eat more at one sitting than I had been. Like, most days for lunch I can eat a packet of oatmeal, or soup or maybe up to a 1/2 sandwich and 2-3 chips, may be for dinner a hotdog cut up and 2or3 bites of potato salad. Now if I decide I wanted that hotdog on a bun, then I can only manage 1/2 of it. Any given day I may not be able to eat but maybe once or twice

some times 3 if I eat late. I know I need a fill when I can eat without any problems with any food on most days, and am eating more, and getting hungry more often. Also, I get tighter around my cycle and ovulation, so If I can eat alot around those times of the month, I need a fill for sure!! Also, they say we can eat up to a cup-1/2 of food but I don't think that that applys to every food (in my case anyway). Some times I literally have 2 bites of this and 2 bites of that and thats all that will fit without being uncomfortable!! But I can eat a cup of oatmeal and be fine. On my really tight days I have soup first then try something solid if I want it. If I started out with meat, I could get stuck on the first bite and thats it!!! and of course then I'm miserable for a hour then hungry again!! So, I would say eat what you know you can handle like yogurt, soup, tuna so you feel satisfied, and the more heavy or solid foods like steak, chicken or beef late in the evening

when your band may be a bit losser. Ya know, I have found too that a portion for us now is maybe 1/4-1/3 of what we used to be able to eat so 1/4-1/2 a sandwich is about right for me if I have soup 1st. It's amazing how litlle I can eat now and feel satisfied! Just about the same amount my kids ate when they were 2yrs old!! Good luck and I hope this helped a little....Dana

for me my fills seem to kick in about 5 days after i have them, i have some restriction and then with a few weeks my restriction seems to be gone, i am able to eat normally, then i gain back whatever weight i have lost since i got the fill and i have to head back to mexicali for another fill. this will be my 4th fill in 5 months. i have heard that you should get a fill if you can eat more than a cup, which at first when i get i cant then within a few weeks, the fill is no longer working and i eat more. this is not what i expected. grrrr capriseMichel <mchlanna@...> wrote: I have a question. i understand what you are saying; however, if i was great at discipline and changing my lifestyle without a little assistance, i woudl not have needed the lap band surgery. in the first place. the band, in theory, works because of restriction, and what restriction i have gotten from my fills only last about 3 weeks so whatever weight i do lose when i have restriction - i gain back once the restriction is not enough i am not wanting miracles - only for a fill to work for longer than 21 days so i dont have to keep going back to mexicali every month. caprise imdeelightful@... wrote: Caprise, No one ever promised us a rose garden...I knew from the get go that I would still have to use discipline and change my life style...The first 6 weeks were easy because I was very restricted on what I put in my mouth..But like any druggie...once I got into solid food (my drug of choice) I have over dosed on several occasions. My restriction is not to the point where I have pb...which is what concerns me now.... I have had a UTI for the last 2 weeks which has not helped my situation since I was using swimming as my form of exercise. I am now off the antibotics and am planning on getting back into the water tomorrow. I will see if my

discipline level will change. The only positive I can say is that I can not eat as much at one time. But if I don't stop myself at eating 3 times a day...than I am SUNK. It is a learning process. What is really important is to remember we have invested money in ourselves because we think we are worthy of it....all we have to do is step up to the plate...and make it at least to first base. Caprise, have

Dr. A pull out your fill this next time to be sure all of it is still there.

But I wouldn’t worry, what you are describing seems about normal until

you get to that perfect spot. My last fill was so tiny, I didn’t believe

people when  they said .1 or .2 cc’s would make a big difference. But it

really does. I am going in for a check up next week and they will let me know

if I need a fill or not. I was at 3.0 before my last fill and he said he gave

me .1 or .2. I am anxious to see what is still there and if I need tweaking but

mostly, I just want to get everything checked out.

, How long after you eat do you get hungry again? It's possible that you may be at a good restriction level if you can eat a small amount and not get hungry again for 3 or 4 hours. If your getting hungry again after an hour or so then maybe try softer foods until the band losens abit. Like I mentioned below, having a cup of steak would be difficult if not impossible but a cup of oatmeal or stew/soup is likely to go down & satisfy you then if you want, try a peice of steak/meat. Also, alot of us are able to eat salads, raw & steamed veggies, crackers & corn chips with salsa ect.. My friend Betty eats cut up tomatoes as a meal, so sometimes we have to think outside the box (or traditional meals) to see what we can manage and feel satisfied with. Hope you doing ok & hang in there!
