Guest guest
Hi Ruth, Were liquids going down in Utah right after the fill? The reason I ask is because of they were then it is the swelling blocking the passthru and getting the swelling down will take care of this. Here are the suggestions Dr. Aceves gives to patients who are too tight.1. In the morning do not swallow the thick saliva thar forms, spit it our, rinse yur mouth, when you are too tight this thick stuff can block the passthru. 2. You need to stay on liquds for a few days, do not even try anything else. 3. With a watch in your hand take a spoonful of tea or water, wait 10 minutes and take another spoonful. Do not try it with anything that irritates like coffee or lemon water, etc. continue this through out the day. 4. After a PBing espisode you need to give you stoma a rest to get the swelling down, 4 hours aprox. 5. If you have been PBing for 3 days and this simple steps do not help you need to go to the emergency room and have IV solutions . A few hours with the IV will hydrate you, this will give your stoma break and help the swelling go down. I think you are in this stage if it has already been 3 days. After the IV solutions you should be able to get clear liquids down. You might need to go to have an unfill but you first need to not be dehydrated. Please give us a call 888 344 3916 and we can talk about this, the doctor needs to know about this so he can recommend what to do next. We will be waiting for your call this morning! Guest guest
Ruth, This actually happened to me right after surgery so I know how you are feeling. I was so scared I did end up going to the ER for an IV. Now of course after all is said and done, I realize I probably would have survived without going to the ER (and saved $4k). I read Nina's reply and she is absolutley right. You just have to take it easy and sip if you can. The swelling will go down. I know you don't think it will right now, but it will. If you are PBing with every sip (as I was) or unable to swallow your own spit (as I wasn't) maybe you should just let it rest and not drink anyting for a few hours. That is what made my swelling go down. I know it is difficult because you are very thirsty and your mind is telling you to drink something. You just have to give it time to stop swelling. What ever you do, don't go to sleep because when you get up, you will be very restricted and this will just add to the problem. This is none of my business but if it is that time of month or around that time, this could be why you are so swollen now and not right after the fill (just a suggestion). I know that around that time, I am definatley more restricted then I am normally. If you need someone to talk to who has been there, email me personally and I will give you my phone #. Take care and keep us posted. 7/18/05 280/230/
Guest guest
Hi Ruth, I know Nina has already answered you, but just wanted to let you know, I went through the same thing, I had a hard time the first week, gurgling and stuff, I waited mine out, even though it was not recommended, because like you I didn't have the money to go back. But I knew within the first few days I was too tight, but then again I asked for a moderate fill. Anyways, I have done a lot of pbing, and don't recommend it, so if things do not get better you might want to get some unfilled, how much do you have currently. I have lost almost 30 lbs since my fill and am just now being able to tolerate solid foods, the first two months, if I ate, it burned like heartburn, now I finally just get the golfball feeling that everyone else experiences, but I went through alot of pain waiting it out. Good Luck you are not alone. I haven't been able to keep anything down for three days now including liquids. It's 5:07 am and I just woke up gagging and choking, I ran to the bathroom and just threw up all this spit and gunk. Not even really stuff that I drank earlier. I tried to lay down again and I can feel it gurgeling and all backing up again. I tried to prop myself up but that wasn't helping so now I'm just up. I'm scared. i don't know what to do. The dr. that did my fill is in Utah and I'm in Texas. I don't have the money right now to go to a dr. that is here to have an unfill. But I don't want to hurt my band and I can't get dehydrated (I don't have any insurance right now). Do I stick it out and just sip water for the next couple of days.and hope the swelling goes down. Or do I use my free Southwest ticket I just earned (that I was saving) and fly to Utah this week so I can get it unfilled. I really want to wait it out but I don't know if that's safe! Those of you that have been too full can you offer any suggestions? Help!
Guest guest
Hey Ruth, I'm so sorry your having such a rough time of it. I am flying out to Utah tomorrow to get my first fill....my kids are out at school there so I thought I would include a visit with it (the cost works out to be the same as if I had it done here, as the Dr's here are so expensive). I'm coming from Florida. Who did you see out there (Dr)? Aren't there several Dr's in Texas? I'd like to keep up with your experience as our fills will be so close. Hope you start feeling better super quick !!!! Thanks for listening Deb in FLRuth <cajunfrancks@...> wrote: I'm having problems-- I had a fill last Tuesday while I was visitingmy family in Utah and now I am way too full. Guest guest
Try just lukewarm beverages too, Ruth...I had an awful PB episode the other night...and found that the warm stuff went thru easier...really cold, or really hot seemed to irritate and not go thru well.BIG HUGS, AND GOD'S BLESSINGSDawnita MayLowpass, Oregon10/05/05 dob "Iraida" 209/190/135 5ft 3inches"before" photos at: http://dawnita1961.myphotoalbum.com/

Guest guest
Here is a snippet of what Nina posted about PB-ing: From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of NinaSent: Tuesday, November 08, 2005 11:02 AM Subject: Re: question PBing stand for "productive burping" which is vomiting when you have the band. It is different, but it is when the food coming back up, the stomach makes and effort to get soemthing out, either because you eat too fast, soemthing gets stuck ( big bites or not chewing well) or you are overeating. <snip> From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of beverly fendleySent: Tuesday, November 08, 2005 8:59 PM Subject: Re: Problem-- Too Full what is PB? Guest guest
Hey Beverly, Welcome to the group! Looks like you got the answer on PB'ing. I have done it several times. It is when you eat too fast or eat too much. It is like a burp that brings the food up that won't go down, up. To me It was not like throwing up. It doesn't have the bad taste or bile. But it is your bodies way of taking care of the situation if you eat too much, don't chew enough or eat too fast. I remember reading on this site many times Nina would say "chew, chew, chew your food" I say ditto to that. I was sooo worried about PB'ing after I was banded. I admit I have, it was my own fault. But it is the bands way of training us how to eat in moderation. At least I haven't had it bad. I am sure the others on the group have way more experience. I was banded in July and need a fill. I am going to see Dr Aceves and Nina on the 15th. Yeah!!! I hope this helped at least a little bit :0) Banded 7/20/05 210/179/140 From: beverly fendley Sent: Tuesday, November 08, 2005 6:59 PM Subject: Re: Problem-- Too Full what is PB?"dawnita3@..." <dawnita3@...> wrote: Try just lukewarm beverages too, Ruth...I had an awful PB episode the other night...and found that the warm stuff went thru easier...really cold, or really hot seemed to irritate and not go thru well.BIG HUGS, AND GOD'S BLESSINGSDawnita MayLowpass, Oregon10/05/05 dob "Iraida" 209/190/135 5ft 3inches"before" photos at: http://dawnita1961.myphotoalbum.com/ FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. Guest guest
I was like that too for about 5 days after my fill, I just did a liquid diet, but I could tell you for the first 3 days not even liquids would stay down. I would wake up at night and do the samething, and I would even do it during the day. And I was worried just like you. After that I stayed on softies for a while. I was too cheap to pay for an unfill. I still can not eat certain things. But I am glad I did not get a unfill, not that that is what you should or should not do, because I might be too loose right now. I think I was just really swollen after getting the fill, just like I was after surgery.
