Guest guest
Hello all, Well, I'm coming on here for advice and to see if anyone has dealt with what I'm dealing with. I received Social Security Disability I believe since around age 4 because of my disability. When I turned 18 it stopped, but I was entering my senior year of HS so we went to court and such and the judge agreed I should continue to get it. This time it was not the disability plan, it was the DAC plan - Disabled Adult Child plan, meaning because of my disability and the fact my mom died when I was 11, so it was a combo. Something was mentioned about a trial period, but we weren't too fimiliar with it. I was the perpetual college student and worked seasonal for a bit, not even part time, barely minimum wage, and the amount of time I have worked in my life full time was 18 months, while on it, (not including my current job). When I started my job at the airline two years ago, I called them to let them know I was full time and how much I made. The following January they sent me a letter stating my situation had not changed and I still qualify for it. I was skeptical though. Fast foward to this year, I now get a letter saying they want all of the money paid back since I was 18. I'd rather not say the amount, but basically, it seems unbeknownst to me, I took out a 486 month loan, another words with what little I have left over every month after bills, it will take me 40 years to pay them back. No saving anything for the future, no taking out future loans, no spending money at all, for 40 years. So, after I turn 70, I can start putting away for my future. It frustrates me because I've always been honest with them, I was never paid under the table, they've always had access to my taxes, which I've always filed every year, to see if I worked, where, how long, and how much. I never had a case worker, I was never really explained about a trial period or that it was up, heck, again last January I was told I still qualify. We (my fam and I) have a lawyer, whom they know about, and never sent anything to, so we are going to court to fight it. I pray this will get waived or greatly greatly reduced. It frustrates me to no end because I've never lied, I've always been honest with them, and I'm the scapegoat for all of the people who do get away with cheating the government? Whats the point of having a life period if when I bust my butt, everything I make goes back to them? That my financial life as I know it, if this stands, is over? This is just a lot to deal with on top of having my hip replaced in winter, oh, but wait, there's nothing wrong with me lol, silly me. Has anyone else gone through this??? -
Guest guest
While I replied to directly since we live in the same state, I wanted to mention to everyone that there are benefits specialists across the country that anyone receiving SSI and/or SSDI should access when they are considering going to work. Work Incentives Benefits Specialists can look at all sorts of work incentives that most people are not aware of that let you keep some or all of your benefits, and most importantly Medicaid and/or Medicare, while working. The legislation for these programs was just renewed in the house. More info can be found at: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/work/WIPA.html and a list of specialists in your area at: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/oesp/providers.nsf/bystate Lourash > > Hello all, > > Well, I'm coming on here for advice and to see if anyone has dealt with what I'm dealing with. > > I received Social Security Disability I believe since around age 4 because of my disability.
