Evel,

Welcome back to the world of sound. Your brain is adapting quite well it seems

and yes...the way it sounds at first can be " different " but when we realize that

we are understanding, that helps us to appreciate the change.

Remeber too that you are hearing tones that have been missing - much more than

you have been used to. It's noisy out there isn't it?

Congratulations!

Alice

I got hooked up wed. I heard every beep on all 22 electrodes.. The sounds

i hear are unreal.. I hear crickets at night, the dog barking next door (Its

quite far from our house) the cars roaring by the house with such loud tire

noise, i hear my car make chime sounds when i turn the key before i start it, I

hear the clicking when i move shift lever from park to drive, i hear turn

signals, I hear our NOISY old refridgirator.. And so many other sounds I could

not fit them all on here..

I am excited about my hearing for the first time in years.. I realize I have

a long ways to go but i feel so good already.

Cheers,

Evel

Evel,

Congratulations! You're on your way to new and exciting sounds of

the world. Enjoy every minute of it and yes, it will get better and

better with time and practice.

I remember hearing my grandson singing to me for the first time

after I was hooked up and clearly remember his rendition of the song

AMERICA at 4 and 1/2 years old. I realized then that he didn't

inherit his singing ability from me LOL..That little boy can really

carry a tune! Wishing you all the best and looking forwad to updates

from you.

Hugs,

Finally and hearty congratulations!! You've been around for some time now

and you finally were able to understand what all the great talk is about. I

am so thrilled! Keep up those progress reports; we love to read them.

Thanks Alice,

I expect a lot from my brain :-) I am sure lots of sounds I hear

are not as they should sound but i think they are getting better

already.. Yes i have missed the high Frequency sounds for a while..

I did catch some with my HA but NOTHING like what i get with my CI.

I also like the sounds, even when they are loud it is not painfull

loud like they were with my HA..

Yes its noisy but i am enjoying all the noise so far :-) I can't

wait to put my CI on in the morning..

Hope you have a great Mother's Day weekend.

Ahh Evel... I remember the first day I went back to work after hook up...

to say I was 'brain dead' after 8 hours was putting it mildly. Hubby said

I looked wiped out and I felt it. All those new sounds and never knew the

office I worked in was NOISY. Good going for you.

I have a very understanding crew I work with, and a LOT of

flexibility with my job.. I am not chained to a desk or any one

location so it should help me.. I have been doing a lot lately and

feel pretty good so far..but yes the ole brain knows something is

up :-) I am just starting to hear and understand some music already..

I can't wait to fine tune the beast as i am on my virgin mapping..

Phyllis,

I was just like you at the end of the day wearing my implant.. I

hated to take it off.

With mappings, some people tend to feel drained at the end of a

mapping too, my sister is one. I always enjoy my mappings though and

leave feeling good.

I can sympathize with those who work in noisy places though.. I can

just imagine how much noise exposure you go through in a days time;

Not sure how I'd hold up under those circumstances after 8 hours

either.

Me either really. I am not in a noisy environment. Just got a great

grandbaby that I have allt he time and she is 7 months old. That is what I

call real pleasure to have a chance to hear her sounds and giggles. Life is

great!
