Hey Jocelyn,

I am sorry about your fill. You know, sometimes the first one doesn't give much restriction. My first fill I got 2 cc. I could feel a little restriction. The 2nd one I had Dr Aceves do and boy was it good. If you can find a good price on a plane ticket I think you should consider going back to Dr A for your next fill. It is so nice to see him and have him check everything out and then have him fill you up good. Check with Nina to see what days she is picking people up at the airport for fills. I think I may be going back in February or March??? I need to check my teaching schedule.

Did your Dr do your fill with the Fluoroscopy? That makes a huge difference.

I hope you are doing great! I would love to meet you on one of these fill trips :0)

Ist fill

I went to the Dr for my first fill today. Apparently he does not have the 9.75cm lapband and was not as familiar with the fill amount he should use. He only put in 6cc of saline and I don't have much more restriction than I had before. I feel I got taken because I paid 150 for it. Could someone give me an idea of the correct amount that I should have gotten on my 1st fill? I'm so frustrated right now because I just should have gone back to Dr. A but it was a long trip for a fill.

Hey , I'm going to call the Dr. and Monday and ask him to put more in. .6cc is nothing and if you got 2cc on your first fill I would think at least 1 to 1.5cc should have been in order . He didn't do it under the flouroscopy. I am coming to palm springs in March and I am going to drive from there to see Dr. A and have him do my second fill for sure. I'll be out there with work so I won't have the expenses of a plane ticket. I'd love to see you also so check out your teaching schedule and maybe we can coordinate something. I have to see what the dates are but I will let you know. Thanks! Hey Jocelyn, I am sorry about your fill. You know,

Hi

Did you mean .6 cc? I got 1 cc for my first fill

about 5 weeks ago and I think the Dr. was a little

conservative. I lost about 8 pounds right away and

then I have been stuck ever since. I am going back in

2 weeks to see if he can " tweak " it a little. My Dr.

only charges $55 after the first fill so it isn't

quite so bad. Also, when did you have the fill?

Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 days for the fill to " kick

in " . It did with me. Right now I can eat almost

anything in the late afternoon and evening but am

still a little tight in the morning but still can eat

things like oatmeal, and breakfast burritos. My worry

is that I can eat a LOT more than I could and I'm

afraid I might stretch my pouch. Anyway this is my

input for you. I hope you get this straightened out

and your fill kicks in!

Good Luck, Penny

Hey Jocelyn,

I think March is a great time for me. You give me a date and I will try and make it work. WE can try and coordinate with Nina for a ride from San Diego to Mexicali :0)

I got 2 cc my first fill and did not get much restriction. Dr Aceves topped that off just a teeny bit and it made ALL the difference. If I were you I definitely would call and ask for more.

Keep in touch and lets go for a fill together. Anyone else out there thinking of March for a fill? It would be a great time for us all to meet :0)

Have a great day!

Jocelyn, Some doctors are conservative when it comes to fills, this is because it is safer than overfilling a patient. If you do not feel restricted ask for more, many patients are afraid of asking the doctor for more, but you have the band are the one that feels how restricted you are. The number in itself is not important, go back and ask for more and feel how restricted you are after you drink water, if you need more ask for more. The fist fill is a difficult one because the patient is not always sure how tight they should be, you are learning to live with your band. Even with fluoro it is difficult to get an exact fill , you see just 5 drops of water can make a huge difference. The fills is done between the patient and the doctor, there is no way the doctor cna know exactly how much you need, talk to him. Nina Jocelyn LaMotta

That is not a dumb question. I had the same one before I was banded. A fluoroscopy is an X-Ray with Barium. The Dr has you drink a little barium and then gets an X-Ray at the same time. That gives Dr Aceves a good view of the band and how much restriction you have. He can clearly see how much fluid is getting through the band and it helps him give you a good fill. A lot of other Doctors just guess at the amount. I love the fluoroscopy because I can actually see the restriction myself.

When you get a fill you want just the right amount.

I am sure others can describe this much better. I hope I have helped and not confused.

Have a great day!

Hi , Fluoroscopy is a special type of x-ray used to project live images onto a monitor. This way the doctor can see exactly where the port is. He can also watch the monitor as you swallow. This will help him see how restricted you are. He does this by you swallowing a liquid called Barium that shows on the monitor as you a swallowing. This procedure just makes a feel more accurate. You might want to wait a few days and see if your restriction kicks in. I know that I didn't feel it initially. Especially when I was on liquids, mushies for the next few days. It wasn't until I started eating regular food that I felt the restriction. Each person reacts differently. Dr. Aceves did my fill and I only was given .5cc. I will. He was concerned because the band size 9.75 they do not carry here and he thought it would hold less cc's the the 10cm. I looked it up after and found they hold the same. I will talk to him tomorrow and just let him know I can still eat a full meal. I am still eating less than I did before the surgery but my stomach has shrunk from the 4 weeks of liquids and mushies. I've plateaued out on my weight loss which seems to be normal. nina eguia <nina_eguia@...> wrote: Jocelyn, Some doctors are conservative when it comes to fills, this is because it is safer than overfilling a patient. Jocelyn, Actually the 9.75 cm band only holds 4cc of liquid, the 10 cm holds 4 cc too. The 11 cm and the Vanguard band hold 10 cc. Many doctors in the US only use the Vanguard band, maybe this is the one he is using.
