Congratulations, Robin. I'm so glad you have made the decision to have the

implant and know your choices are good ones. You are right. The time to do

this for yourself is when you are ready. It's a huge decision and requires a

great deal of personal committment, but when you know what you want you just

don't want anything to get in your way.

I'll look forward to hearing more. Which center are you going to for your

implant?

Hi Phyllis,

I think you have asked the golden question. There are many opinions on this and

I have realized that this is a personal thing. Each person seems to find one

that they prefer.

The flip phones seem to be the most logical for someone with a CI as they cup

around the ear and enclose the sound but that isn't necessarily true for

everyone. Bilateral users really enjoy a phone with a speaker option. I found

the Sprint phone with this option was excellent. Kroycera probably makes one of

the most compatable cell phones but it is also probably one of the most

expensive.

A good phone center will let you try them out and I think this is the best way

to decide. You could also find out about the patch cord use and contracts at

the same time. Keep in mind that with your new implant, you will most likely

not need to use a patch cord.

Hi Robin,

I am with Chicago Otology Group too. Dr. Battista did my surgery.

They sure are wonderful!
