Guest guest
Karlie!! OMG we could be twins. I like to eat at the computer, watching a movie, sitting in the car (if not driving). It seems like I must have something in my mouth at all times! So I started chewing gum. I don't recommend it for newbies until you get used to the band and how to pb on purpose if you accidentally swallow something (like gum, or a cough drop). But chewing gum for me has really helped a lot, especially with the evening snacking. I never thought I was addicted to food until I had the band. I always thought it was just my metabolism. Now I know that the amount of calories I was intaking was just too much for my metabolism to get rid of. I am sure I must have consumed at least 2500 to 3000 calories a day and didn't work it off. I guess you can say I knew that already, but I was in denial. M (who will forever be "big boned" lol) From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of KarlieSent: Thursday, March 16, 2006 10:00 PM Subject: Why do I do this! UGH I just started my pre surgery diet today. I had eggs for breakfast, two protein shakes one for lunch and one for a snack, and fish, broccoli, and brussel sprouts for dinner. After dinner I was more than satisfied but about 20 minutes later even though I was not hungry I ate more brussel sprouts. Now I am so full that I can hardley breath. I feel sometimes that I am addiced to food or maybe I just think I need to have something in my mouth. I tend to snack alot while I am on the computer. Please tell me that this gets easier. I don't want to be doing this after my surgery. I get banded on the 27th and I'm hoping that I can re-direct myself before then. Guest guest
Hi Karlie, You know, I think it was on Tuesday we ordered pizza and spagetti for dinner. Now for some reason I think this is my last supper because to start I had 1 piece of pizza and some spagetti and actually I was full after that but NO, I had to have more!!! I had 3 more pieces of pizza!!!!! I felt so disgusting after this that I tried to make myself but to no avail. The only thing that happened was I went to bed feeling like shit and had a massive headache for the entire next day. After taking 6 tylenol and no relief, I had to go over to my Husbands medicine cabinet and take some of his good stuff. It finally went away. But I too eat while on the computer. I really hope that I will be able to stop when my stomache says its had enough. I really need to work on the signals of what actual hunger is versus habit. I feel like if I dont eat what I think is my portion I am going to lose out. This I have got to get a handle on. Tammy I.Karlie <YrrabTheMoose@...> wrote: I just started my pre surgery diet today. Guest guest
Karlie, I know where you are coming from and in fact I am sure you are not the only one with this problem It's something you really have to get ahold of now, before the band because if you overstuff you can throw up or worse yet, have one heck of a stomach ache...I know I've done the latter!!! The best thing to do is to eat where you have quiet, really pay attention to your stomach. As soon as you feel you are satisfied (not full), that is the time to walk away. In fact, I would put everything away that I had not eaten and clean up the plates, thus telling my crazy brain that we are done for the time being. Try not to drink while you eat as well, this is pretty hard for me since I am so used to having a glass of water with meals. I've basically got it together not too long after I started eating solids with the band, and let me tell you it works because you are fuller faster and it lasts longer...to think all those times everyone has told me not to drink with meals and I thought...Eh, it won't matter...well it does! Go figure that good advice actually works...LOL. As I stated I have stuffed myself with the band...which when you think to the past it's no where near to how I used to stuff myself prior to the band but still the same, I get a little tummy ache because I took that extra bite or two. It's a lesson that I am sure I'll have to work with myself, and hopefully get it together prior to my first fill. I just concentrate on my stomach and how it feels. You'll get the hang of it, it just takes awhile and remember you are pre-op, so that idea of "Oh it doesn't matter if you take those extra bites, you dont have the band now (brain talking)" will spring up from time to time on the pre-op diet, I know it did with me...lol. Dust yourself off and start new, each time you get that urge really pay attention to it and work to get it out of your head. Wishing you all the best in your pre-op diet, and for your upcoming band date!!! You'll do just fine...you just have to believe in yourself Since there's two Kelli's ....one Keli and me, I'll sign myself out as KRF which are my initials...this way we wont get confused...lol. Guest guest
Hi Karli Things really do change after surgery! You will be able to go without eating all the time. I do have to admit, though, that if you do not have restriction (right after surgery or when you need another fill) it is possible that you might feel like you need to snack! That probably is a signal that you need a fill!! Remember the band is a tool and you have to learn how to use it. Be assured that the cravings do go away for the most part, though. Guest guest
Caprise lol I know the feeling. I am SUPPOSED to be on a pre-surgery diet but it doesn't seem to be working very well. Right now I have the awful craving for a brownie blast from Dairy Queen. I very seldom eat sweets but for some reason today I am craving them ugh! I had to laugh when you said the next step would be injecting frosting into your veins. I am also feeling like I need to get that last bit of cravings in before my surgery. How awful is that. I love food so much that I feel that I HAVE to eat it before I have to say goodbye to it for a very very long time. I too am going to look into support groups in my area after surgery. I know this is only a tool and if I don't use this tool the way it was intended then I will fail the way I have always had when it comes to losing weight. Guest guest
Hi Caprise, I know what you mean. I made a cake tonight!! I don't bake very often. As for the frosting....I absolutely love frosting!!!! I could eat the frosting alone. No need for cake here!! See this is my problem, I have got to quite looking at food like this. I really dont know how to do that. My dob is 4/28 and I need to figure this food/mind thing out. Maybe after we have the surgery and start seeing results and realize that we have taken the ultimate step (surgery) to become healthier our minds will follow. I sure hope so. Did anyone watch the biggest loser? Well one of the girls had GBS and she said it didnt work for her. She had quite a bit of weight to lose. Thats where we need to use our gift from Dr. A to our advantage and learn that only we can change our habits and the band is there to help us. To all you bandsters...... maybe you can give us a little info on how you tell your head that its okay not to eat that. Guest guest
I just wanted to add a little information. I was banded on 2/17/06 and have lost over 40 pounds (some of it was from the pre diet). I decided before I went to cut back and eat healthly. So, I actually deprived myself when I could have been having " my last real food " . I did this because to succeed at this. YOU MUST change how you think about food. It's a head thing. I know that for the rest of my life, I have to watch what I eat to allow the band to work. I have had 3 bites of a dessert while at a conference. It tasted amazing but I know that I cannot do that often. I really believe that success is up to each person. The Dr. gives you the tools and then it's up to each of us to follow through. With exercise and a moderate diet, each of us will lose. A warning to those who are not really sure....don't do it. Wait until you are ready to work (and I mean work 100%) or you are cheating yourself. I don't want to sound negative but it's a life change, not just a phase. I still have a long way to go and still have to fight the head hunger but I will continue to lose and keep it off. Good luck to everyone who has had or scheduled to have the procedure. I don't mean to preach but this is an important and life changing decision. Regina 335/293/150 > You are on the pre-diet for 14 days before surgery. I started mine 10 days before since I made my surgery date so soon. The diet is high protein and no carbs. Very easy for some but not for me lol. > > Karlie > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Karlie, Where did you get the pre diet from?? I looked on Dr. A's web page and only saw post-diet. I am not getting banded until the 28th of April but I would like to start losing some weight now and getting in that frame of mind. Did you lose weight on the pre-diet??
