Hi there. There’s lots I want

to say to you. First, those folks that had surgery around the same day

and are eating chips and salsa, let em. That just blows my mind. They

are going to fail. They just paid all that money for absolutely nothing.

This band is not magic, you have to work with it. This is your journey

and yours alone. They are on a whole different path and it’s gonna

run right into the ditch. The diet plan after surgery is so you can

recover from surgery. You really need to follow it and just get through

it. There is nothing else for you to have my friend. Popsicles,

juice, clear protein, chicken broth. That’s really about it. I

bought some Italian Ice in week 2 for some variety. It’s high in sugar

though. If you are serious, you’re just gonna have to do it.

Before you know it you’ll be having protein shakes and cream soup.

Pure heaven! You have to think of it this way, your band doesn’t

start to work for you until you get your first fill. Right now, you are

on a post op diet to heal from surgery. It has nothing to do with your

band. So don’t pay any attention to what you are loosing or

not. This is recovery. Recovery for me was a good two weeks. I

couldn’t sleep, sitting up was tough. I was miserable and then it

started getting better. Hang in there, you are almost through the

toughest part of all. I am 3 months out, 2 fills, down 26 pounds and

walking on cloud 9. Every day is a different day with your band.

The stage you are in now is a learning stage. Get to know your body, get

your mind around what you’ve done and how you’re gonna work the

band. Everyday I look at food that I can’t have and I’m ok

with that because the band has given me what I call a higher power. I

would kill for a bacon cheese burger, fries and a Dr. Pepper. Oh yeah! But,

I chose the band over those and every day I am thankful. The thought only

lasts a minute but the 2 pound loss this morning lasted me all day. Can’t

wait to wake up and do it all over tomorrow. Hang in there and get

serious about your journey. It’s day 11. Think how bad day 2

was and how much better you are today. Good luck. You can do

this.

Hey everyone, I was banded on December 15th and up

until today have

been barely even able to walk without screaming in pain, my recovery

seemed harder than what others have described and I have had many

thoughts that this was all a huge mistake. Its also very difficult

for me because I know of a couple of people who were banded around

the same time as me that have decided to not follow the after

surgery diet and started eating completely regular foods just a few

days after surgery. I know this diet is here for a reason, but when

I'm sitting there eating my jello and chicken broth and they are

sitting there eating chips and salsa it makes it so much harder.

Basically, I'm just asking for a little help from those who have

been there before. I need some more variety, all I can think about

is food and I have started to feel more and more hungry everyday.

I'm on my 11th day, so I still have a few more days to go with the

liquid diet, but I just can't stand the hunger pains. I drink

Isopure constantly (which I happen to think is very good, try the

pineapple/orange/banana), eat tons of jello and tons of broth. But

it's all starting to gross me out! The thought of eating one more

bowl of broth or jello makes me want to vomit! So is there anyone

out there who can give me any ideas of what else I can eat? Is it

too soon to start adding something a little more solid to my diet?

Also, now that I'm feeling more and more hungry and am eating more

and more jello and broth does that mean my weight loss is going to

slow down? I'm already down from 186 to 170 in just 11 days and I

dont want to stop losing weight. Please help me!

Are you eating sugar free jello? If you are eating jello with sugar

then you will get very hungry. Stick to diet only. Drink protein

first when you are hungry.

If you are on day #11 you only have THREE more days to go!!! That's

nothing, you've done the majority of it. Don't give up now!

Write more posts here when you start getting cravings, don't eat

around others when they are eating something better than broth. Try

different broths, add spices to make it better, don't watch TV, the

commercials will make you want food. Write a journal, start from the

beginning of weight issues through today. Keep it up. Keep busy,

but most of all don't be around others when they are eating. It's

just going to make it harder for you.

Hi ,

What kind of pain are you having? did something happen? I spoke with

last night and understood that you were doing fine, going to

work daily, etc.

Please email me just want to make sure you are recovering normally,

screaming from pain is not how it is supposed to be.

Hey ,

You are doing good, keep up the great work. The diet is hard to

stick with but let me tell you I am glad I stuck with it. I stick to

a strict diet today, but it's helped me to lose 182lbs before a year

is up, I was banded 1/27/06 at 370lbs. One thing that helped me was

I tried different broths...or soups, straining out the solids. I

tried and LOVED: Won Ton Soup and Hot Sour Soup with it strained to

take out the solids...believe me, it got me through the liquid phase

and it gives you lots of protein because you'll have the juice from

pork, chicken, shrimp...it does fill you up. I think Jenni Currie

had said there is something called Grand Slam 50, at GNC it has

50grams of Protein, it will come with the full liquid phase...which

I am sure you're looking forward to. Just remember, those that do

not stick to the diet, are often the ones that complain that they

are not losing the weight...it's best to get your head wrapped

around the idea that the band is only part of losing weight, that

you need to RELEARN how to eat...chips and salsa are not a good

source of food. If you can't stick out the diet after the band has

been placed, then it's gonna be a tough road. You have to eat to

live, not live to eat...a change in eating habits needs to take

place in order to have the band work properly. Good Luck!!!

I will tell you right off that I can absolutely sympathize with

you. Unfortunately, there is nothing else you can do. I had surgery

on the 12th and I have gotten pretty creative. I've gotten wanton

soup (minus the won ton, spring onion, french onion, chicken tortilla

(which I really recommend because it's spicy and that really helped)

but all of which are still clear soup and all of them strained of any

of the really yummy stuff in em' but it did help. The other thing

that helped is upping my protein and taking Flintstones chewable

vitamins. Once I did that it made things a little more manageable.

But I get where you are at. I was starving too, my stomach seemed to

grumbling all the time and I was cranky and my family feared me and

dared not make anything within a 25 mile radius of me because I could

smell it. I didn't have as much pain, discomfort, yes getting in and

out of bed sucked and my boys would help to pull me into the upright

position when I wanted off the couch. But I think that after flying

home in a middle seat on a packed flight for 9 hours 2 days after

surgery made me prepared for what I was facing at home.

I also know several people that have had the surgery, one that was

hardly even hungry during the clear stage so she didn't have a

problem with it, once she recovered from the stab wound I gave her

she understood how I felt. But I also know two woman who didn't go so

far as to eat chips and salsa, but did move to creamed soups by the

second week of post op and even ate the heavy kinds of soup and the

meat and veggies in them. They kept telling me that it would fine and

wouldn't hurt me and that it was the only way they got through it.

But I know that the clears are 2 weeks for a reason and I wasn't

willing to risk it. I'm sure that Nina can elaborate on it, but my

guess would be that even eating heavy creamed soup you could cause

your band to slip before it's even healed.

Just being on clear I have been worried about that and now I have

a chest cold and nausea and I have been trying to be very still as to

not throw up because I am so scared that it will cause my band to

slip.

You don't have too much longer before you can move to full liquids

and that will get you beyond another week and closer to feeling

better. I just have to keep reminding myself of that too. I know it's

tough, but in the long run it will be worth it. IT helps that when I

get on the scale I'm already down 15 lbs.

If there is anything I can do feel free to email me. I did with

and that was a huge help for me. I have also emailed Gaby

and Nina several times and they always gets back to me and calm me

down somewhat.

Yes, I have been eating sugar free jello, lots of it. Everyday seems

to be a better day though. All last week I could barely move, the

gas pain was horrible and constant with no relief and I felt like

everything inside was tearing and pulling everytime I moved.

Yesterday was better though and today I feel like a totally

different person. And yes I do only have 3 more days left so I'm

going to stop thinking about cheating and just do it. Thank You.

Hi Nina, I'm doing much better now. Last week was really tough and I

was not getting any relief from the gas pain. I also kept feeling a

very painful pulling feeling from my left side which made it almost

impossible to move without screaming out in pain. Today I feel

better, the gas pain comes and goes but at least it's not constant

and I dont feel anymore pulling. I did have to come home from work

early a few times last week, but now I feel like things are finally

starting to get better. Thanks.

this is , I am not banded, but will have the gastric

bypass with Dr A on the 10th. Listen to this folks and if you have to

come in here and write all day long, do it, change the tV channels

during any food commercials, hide with a good book away from any

smells while you family eats, better yet, make them go out. HA HA

6 years ago, I went through all the stress of helping my cousin do all

the work to get approval for Gastric by pass. She has been very heavy

all her life and was so depressed.

Two weeks after her procedure she is eating as much as she can as fast

as she can, after all she'd gone through. Now she is right back to

where she was on the day she was in the hospital. I have 9 other

cousins who have had this surgery, and I will make number 11 (hey, we

come from a fat gene family) and they have all done great. I think we

all took her lesson as to " What not to do " I'm pretty sure I will

have to follow the same diet as the bansters, except, I have a bladder

diease and can't even eat many of the things ya'll can. Unless I can

find Sugar free jello made with splenda, I'll be an only broth girl

for two week. So I can promise you, unless my husband wants to be

stabbed and shot, he will be eating all his meals out for how ever

long I'm on the liquid stage!

Hugs girl and hang in there, you have so much support. Go for the gold

and don't let food conquer you.

Right before the gas pains start take a gas strip and tylenol and within a few minutes it will be gone. You can do this , it's all worth it. 6 months later I'm down 65 lbs and 3 sizes smaller. Thanks Michel . I was a little

worried I came on too strong. I was just so pissed about those people eating

chips and salsa. I consider my band the gift of life and get angry when

others don’t. Guess I’ll have to let that go. LOL.

Down another .5 pound this morning. That tastes so much better than chips

and salsa! Can’t wait to make a grand entrance on New Years Eve.

it’s gonna run right into the ditch. The diet plan after surgery is

so you can recover from surgery. You really need to follow it and just

get through it. There is nothing else for you to have my friend.

Popsicles, juice, clear protein, chicken broth. That’s really about

it. I bought some Italian Ice in week 2 for some variety.

It’s high in sugar though. If you are serious, you’re just

gonna have to do it. Before you know it you’ll be having protein

shakes and cream soup. Pure heaven! You have to think of it

this way, your band doesn’t start to work for you until you get your

first fill. Right now, you are on a post op diet to heal from surgery.

It has nothing to do with your band. So don’t pay any attention

to what you are loosing or not. This is recovery. Recovery for me

was a good two weeks. I couldn’t sleep, sitting up was tough.

I was miserable and then it started getting better. Hang in there,

you are almost through the toughest part of all. I am 3 months out, 2

fills, down 26 pounds and walking on cloud 9. Every day is a different

day with your band. The stage you are in now is a learning stage.

Get to know your body, get your mind around what you’ve done and how

you’re gonna work the band. Everyday I look at food that I

can’t have and I’m ok with that because the band has given me what

I call a higher power. I would kill for a bacon cheese burger, fries and

a Dr. Pepper. Oh yeah! But, I chose the band over those and

every day I am thankful. The thought only lasts a minute but the 2 pound

loss this morning lasted me all day. Can’t wait to wake up and do

it all over tomorrow. Hang in there and get serious about your

journey. It’s day 11. Think how bad day 2 was and how much

better you are today. Good luck. You can do this.

So tired of jello and broth!

Hey everyone, I was banded on December 15th and up until today have

been barely even able to walk without screaming in pain, my recovery

seemed harder than what others have described and I have had many

thoughts that this was all a huge mistake. Its also very difficult

for me because I know of a couple of people who were banded around

the same time as me that have decided to not follow the after

surgery diet and started eating completely regular foods just a few

days after surgery. I know this diet is here for a reason, but when

I'm sitting there eating my jello and chicken broth and they are

sitting there eating chips and salsa it makes it so much harder.

Basically, I'm just asking for a little help from those who have

been there before. I need some more variety, all I can think about

is food and I have started to feel more and more hungry everyday.

I'm on my 11th day, so I still have a few more days to go with the

liquid diet, but I just can't stand the hunger pains. I drink

Isopure constantly (which I happen to think is very good, try the

pineapple/orange/banana), eat tons of jello and tons of broth. But

it's all starting to gross me out! The thought of eating one more

bowl of broth or jello makes me want to vomit! So is there anyone

out there who can give me any ideas of what else I can eat? Is it

too soon to start adding something a little more solid to my diet?

Also, now that I'm feeling more and more hungry and am eating more

and more jello and broth does that mean my weight loss is going to

slow down? I'm already down from 186 to 170 in just 11 days and I

dont want to stop losing weight. Please help me!

I don't think you should apologize, I think what you said is right. I've seen for my own eyes someone misuse their tool. I think it is a wonderful tool too and I think I will get so pissed if I hear or see anyone who has gone through it and then misuses it. Because I think of all the folks who would love to have it and can't because their insurance doesn't cover it or they don't have the resources to pay for it themselves and here is someone who got it and is abusing it.

You will be amazed at how much better you will feel even in the next stage. YOU CAN DO THIS! Ignore those people who chose to eat whatever the hell they want to eat. Obviously they did not intend to be successful with this journey. As said already, they will fail. Several weeks or months down the road they will be on this message board whining and bitching that the band hasn't worked for them and they are not losing fast enough. They will go time and time again to get fills because they are of the mindset that the band will do all the work for them. Well, needless to say, that is all * & ^ & (*^! They will not be succeessful but YOU will

Well, we are a bunch of passionate bandsters, that's for sure. I just

get all riled up. I just read Tammy's blog about loosing her band and

it pretty much stuck in throat for a couple of days. Thinking about

loosing my band or not having this opportunity, really upsets me. I

LOVE MY BAND. .

, Dr A and the people who tell us to eat the broth and jello and all that for the first 2 weeks know what they are talking about youcan proably eat anything you want but you are taking a chance on damaging your band and it is not worth it there will always be people who think they know more than the Dr. but as said you can do and we have all been there but you will get thru and be a better person, we still have to use a little self control when it comes to food at any stage of the journey. The band is only a tool. you have to work with it. And 8 thousand is alot to throw away if you don't work with the band and do what Dr. A tells you. Good Luck , We all know how you are feeling. Just making regular jello. It goes down just fine, I just hold it

in my mouth for a little longer to liquify it a bit before I eat

it. But believe me when the only thing else you can have is broth,

jello gives you the sensation that you are eating something solid,

when really you're not.

Just so you know lots of meds come this way too. I used Sudafed

strips too. They are a bit expensive but well worth it vs. crushing

tablets and gagging. ;o) Tylenol comes in lozenges, GasX comes in

chewable tablets and strips, we are getting more and more options as

time goes on.
