OK..I'm going to jump in here on this subject.

Evel - I'd like to ask you to take responsibility for gathering this infomation.

Very soon, I will be revealing something new and exciting for CI Hear and I'd

like to see this information as part of the project that is pending. We have a

database section on the listserv that you might be able to use to collect the

data or perhaps you have another way you'd like to do this. Let us know and

we'll see what develops.

Alice,

I am all yours girl! :-) Soon I will start 12 hr Day/night shifts

(Nov 29th) and I will have some free time when on night shifts to

help out here anyway you want.. What we need is to gather all the

different ways audies are mapping people and then maybe come up with

good and bad points from all these? For me, I had maps dumped from

BWP to 3G, a big no no according to most on here. Also my Audie will

not allow me to do a sweep of tones since my second? map with BWP.

Never with the 3g. Said it will mess up my map and its to hard to do

with the machine as the BWP has a direct hook up. Basically it looks

like the battery for it only it has a cable that hooks up to box with

22 lights and his PC.

He has also frowned on me wanting to participate in a study in

Syracuse NY that is aimed at getting the MOST you can from your CI

thru advanced mappings. His Quote " do you really want to go thru all

the trouble to gain 3-4% better hearing? " YES, I would do it for 1-2%

better :-)

Let me know what you need from me.

Cheers,

Evel

P.S. My brother is going for a new map today..

Evel,

Wow, If I were in your situation, I'd be looking for an audiologist

who would work with me to get the best mapping you can and to get

the most you can out of your ci! if your insurance allows it, it's

ok to find an audiologist you're comfortable with.

I was implanted at a teaching university and the audi's there really

encourage doing research testing.. Even if it doesn't benefit us, it

will certainly benefit others down the road as the researchers study

the results of all the testing.

I've done a few of these studies and have learned to listen better

just from that.

When I go for mappings, I'm always given an electrode sweep, voltage

compliance testing and the works. My audiologist allows up to two

hour sessions for clients to work out maps, I've never had a map

dumped from one processor to another either, however, amongst the

audiologists in my ci center, some of them program by using the knob

to adjust electrodes while others use the computer arrows..I am told

the computer arrows allow for just a bit more fine tuning than

turning and clicking the knob does.. sometimes I think that bit

of " extra " might be all one needs to make the difference between a

good mapping and a great one!

I think this is a great study to get going on.. Maybe we'll make a

difference, maybe we won't; but at least we will have tried!

Have a great day.

Hope things go well for your brothers mapping today!

Hugs,

Silly MI
