Guest guest
Tammys One piece of advice I got from my fill Dr. which I think is really good even way later when you have had fills but now too is to NOT eat if you are not hungry! I think 's suggestion to take up a hobby that keeps you away from the kitchen and TV is a very good one. Maybe gardening or any kind of crafting. It keeps your mind busy and you forget about the hunger. Penny __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Penny, Thanks for the advice but what about making sure your getting enough nourishment in your body?? I am having a hard time with this eating thing right now because for instance.....In the morning I am not hungry at all. But around 11:00am I start feeling the hunger pangs and I will eat some broth. But I am eating about 3/4 to 1 cup of broth and a jello cup. Thats it. I feel okay after I eat that but then about maybe an hour later I am feeling hungry again? So I am still confused about all the liquids we are supposed to drink. So instead of eating I should drink maybe for that hour after I have eaten?? The hardest thing for me so far is drinking the fluids. I usually only drink something when I eat something. Well, I USED TO only drink something etc... I have started taking liquid vitamins even though Dr. A said it wasnt necessary for lap band patients so I guess I dont really need to worry about the nutrients much. Tammy I. We absorb all the vitamins in the food we eat. The necessity to take vitamins stems from GB patients needing to take many vitamins for the rest of their lives because they do not absorb everything they eat. You should be conscious of what you eat and choose the right foods because your body still needs the right nutrition to keep you going. OF course it doesn't hurt to take a daily multi vitamin. 7/18/05 280/190/
Guest guest
Hi Tammy, First, you are not alone with the hunger issues right after banding. If you go back in my journal on my web page, you will see that I was hungry every hour for the first week or so. i can't remember my exact schedule but it was something like: Breakfast: 9am 1 cup broth 10:30 Jello Water, gatoraide, isopure, in between 11:30 1 cup broth 1pm Jello and isopure or water 3pm 1 cup broth 4pm Jello etc etc etc The first week or so I was starving! Then as I was able to add the milk based protein drinks it got easier to where I was only having the 1 cup of broth and 1/4 cup Jello three times a day for meals, and in between I would have 2 "snack" times where I would have some other appropriate liquid snack. I got confused over amounts too so you know what? I did what I felt was right with my body and I didn't compare to others and that is what you have to do. Follow the post op diet but don't worry if you aren't drinking the right amounts right now. Remember , this time is for healing! ) And yes, this time is about changing the way you used to do things and that means grabbing that water bottle or favorite low cal beverage and taking it with you wherever you go. You have to get your water intake and keep hydrated. Don't worry, we will be here to kick you in the butt when needed. Guest guest
Penny, I've tried staying occupied but I'm still so uncomfortable. My biggest fete was taking out all the household trash and actually about 4 boxes of recycleables, then rolling both trash cans to the curb (it's a ways down there, too). I spent way too much time Tues or Wed (they're running together now) trying to resolve a problem at work. It took me several hours on my computer (at home) and on the phone with my assistant and with IS dept at the malpractice ins company. All the while, Corporate was breathing down our necks. Since then, I have completely avoided checking email or voicemail at work. I don't seem to be eating when not hungry, and stopping when it feels as though I've had enough volume. I'm just flat out hungry! Thanks. Guest guest
Thank You , I am going to go and check out your site again. See I am not eating or drinking like your example and maybe thats my problem. I should probably put myself on some kind of schedule. I also checked out Craigs food diary today. Maybe I need to log my food like you both so I can see what I need to improve on. I know I need to improve on my water intake. Thanks Again! Tammy I. DOB-4/20/06 New Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Tammy Just drink or eat jello or broth whenever you are hungry! Right now you don't need to worry about nutrition. You will be OK for quite awhile. I know how hard the drinking is--I was so restricted it took me the whole day to drink 1 glass of water and I couldn't drink any other flavored kind of thing! You have less than a week to go before full liquids!!!! You'll feel a little better then and by mushies time you will feel even better. Hang in there.
