Guest guest
Congrats to you!!!!!! Pick a date that you want surgery. Remember that you have to arrive around 11AM the day before surgery in San Diego and then you'll leave three days later. You'll need a few days off work after surgery. So after you set a date you call or email Nina. You give her the date and make sure it works with their schedule. Set up your plane tickets, stock up on Gatorade, a protein drink (clear), broth, etc., and then you are good to go. Nina will cover deposits/payments and such with you. No passport needed. Just a driver license. If you fly into Mexico you will need a passport but if you fly into San Diego Ernesto will pick you up at the airport and drive you to Mexico. No passport needed if you are not flying into Mexico. Make your airline reservations so that you arrive in San Diego around 11:00AM and you leave San Diego airport around 1PM three days later. If you get a 6PM flight you will have a LONG wait at the airport. So make it as close to 1PM as possible but not earlier. When do you think you want to have it done? When I finally made the decision that I wanted to do this I had surgery six days later. I had no reason to wait, I wanted it done quickly and I'm glad I did that. > > ok, ive decided... > nina sent me the 3 part email thing to watch and i have watched it. i > am almost positive i have the money thing taken care of i am calling > tuesday to make 100% sure though. > so what do i do now to get the ball rolling? > is a passport required for this? > in other words > > WHAT NOW????????? ) > dawn > in michigan >
Guest guest
Dawn After you know you got your money for sure you will mail a deposit of $500 to Nina or an address she gives you, to secure your date, she will have probably all ready given you some dates depending on the doctors sechudle. From what I was told, you will not need a passport until 2008 unless you are directly flying into Mexico. I'm having my RNY Gastric By Pass on the 10th, we are flying into San Diego on the 8th being picked up by a driver and driven either to the hotel first or hospital first (this part I'm not sure about) at the hospital they will do some pre op work, then you go back to the hotel and get your last supper, LOL, then the next morning go to hospital and get your surgery, then you get up from that bed and walk those halls, the more you walk they say the better and faster you heal. Where do you live, in might even be possible if you are close enought to just drive, it is my understand from looking at a map, that Mexacalli is about 1 hour from Yuma AZ. Guest guest
nne, I am currently considering the band. I have a lot of weight to lose. You said that the band did not work for you. Can you elaborate? I don't want to go through the band and have it not work and than have to go through another procedure. Guest guest
Hi Trina, I was asking how her RNY=Roux-en-Y surgery went and I'm interested in learning more about Dr. Aceves. I'm in West Linn, where are you located at? I'd really like to meet other bandsters for support are you in any groups? I am not having any luck with the gastric banding; after 1 year I've gained 30lbs---very frustrating. It seems for me that the band will be very constricted during the day where I can hardly eat anything without vomiting and then around 5ish (dinner time) my band completely opens up and then I'm so hungry from not eating that I'm totally out of control with portions and consequently, I'm over eating. When did you have the banding and by whom? Thanks for the e-mail. nneTrina <trinaant@...> wrote: Hello I live in Oregon too. Guest guest
Hi Jane, For me, the lap band has been a tremendous struggle due to the fluctuations of band restriction. The band will be super tight all day so that I can't eat a thing without vomiting then when dinner time rolls around, my band has become so loose that there is no restriction and consequently I am eating for the missed food during the day plus dinner---portion is out of control at that point. I'm getting fills regularly, ($165 Portland Dr. Fitzpatrick) I just had one on Fri and I was still able to eat way too much Sat night when I went out with friends. I was told that the band will cause you to be less hungery, and you'll automatically want to eat differently---not the case for me. I'm always hungry and can, unfortunately eat large portions---where's the small pouch that I was told I have?! Knowing what I know now about the band being so inconsistent and how stress, exercise caffeine etc change the restriction I would choose the Bypass. I only wish I had honest info about the band and how it can fail, not a lot of people want to talk about that aspect of the surgery. I wish you luck in whatever you decide is right for you and please continue to do your homework, there is more info out there then even 1 year ago when I was researching. nne jane moss <mom_jane_moss@...> wrote: nne, I am currently considering the band. Guest guest
nne, RNY may not do much better for you. Initally, you may lose but if you continue to overeat or binge on food you will stretch out your new little pouch and gain the weight back again. Also, with RNY you will have no real restriction after a few months, maybe 6, then what?? Self control is needed with either of these proceedures and rules are meant to be followed. I can't believe you were even able to eat enough at night to gain 30 lbs??!! That's a bummer! Are you sure your fills have been enough? Most people who gain are not filled properly...I am tight in the mornings too but I "know" when I am able to eat too much later in the day it's time for a fill. I really hope you can talk with a Dr. Aceves and find out what's going on and try to get the band on track before you consider the RNY. Some RNY patients I have heard have the band placed after their pouch stretches, and some have it put on during surgery as a back-up! I hope you can get back to losing with the band and get over the night eating with a fill! My fingers are crossed hoping you can figure this out..Dana -------------- Original message -------------- From: nne <marianne_xo@...> Hi Trina, I was asking how her RNY=Roux-en-Y surgery went and I'm interested in learning more about Dr. Aceves. Guest guest
Hi nne, I am interested in your story, because I have not heard of a failure like yours. I have heard where the band was not for a person, but not because of fluctuations in restrictions AS BAD as yours. I don’t understand how you can be that tight during the day, then that open at night. I can understand your frustration! Maybe you are one of a very few that have this strange problem with restriction? What kind of liquid are you getting in during the day? Guest guest
Dana-- I get fills regularly, just had one and there is NO restriction from early evening on. I understand about self control, however, there has been no consistency from which to get a routine that has successful results with all the fluctuations of the band. Believe the 30 lbs, it's there A friend of mine has lost $167 lbs in 2 yrs--RNY and she's still losing. I've heard that it can stop working after 5 yrs and I get that there are pros and cons to everything. There is no magical cure- all, I know what I have to do, however MY band has been a moving target so to speak. I spoke with a bariatric assistant this evening and he said that he's spoke with several other patients in my exact situtation with the exact band (swedish). I've not given up hope, I know there is a way for me, thanks for your support. nne > > > > Dawn > > > > After you know you got your money for sure you will mail a deposit > of > > $500 to Nina or an address she gives you, to secure your date, she > > will have probably all ready given you some dates depending on the > > doctors sechudle. > > > > From what I was told, you will not need a passport until 2008 unless > > you are directly flying into Mexico. > > > > I'm having my RNY Gastric By Pass on the 10th, we are flying into > San > > Diego on the 8th being picked up by a driver and driven either to > the > > hotel first or hospital first (this part I'm not sure about) at the > > hospital they will do some pre op work, then you go back to the > hotel > > and get your last supper, LOL, then the next morning go to hospital > > and get your surgery, then you get up from that bed and walk those > > halls, the more you walk they say the better and faster you heal. > > > > Where do you live, in might even be possible if you are close > enought > > to just drive, it is my understand from looking at a map, that > > Mexacalli is about 1 hour from Yuma AZ. > > > > > > > > > > > > > Have a great day, > Trina Antonopoulos > > > Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited. > > > > > > The fish are biting. > Get more visitors on your site using Search Marketing. >
Guest guest
I have a comment for everyone that has been banded or is thinking about being banded. In my opinion, not enough information is given as to how to eat with the band. I was banded in May of 06 and have only lost about 10 lbs in all...however, I was doing many many things wrong...for example...I was told not to drink with my meals...but I wasn't explained why...so I drank with my meals. I was never told to eat as fast as possible...otherwise if you eat real slow you can eat as much as a non-banded person. I was also never explained how to eat....protein first...then veggies then carbs...I went to 's webpage http://tracyslapband.com/index.htm and I read over it and found many things I've been doing wrong. We get information when we are banded...but just not enough...I think people think you get banded...and boom..you're skinny...it doesn't work like that...you have to follow the directions...I found 's website very informative and I encourage every one that is newly banded and even those that are old timers with little success to tweak their eating routine and follow the instructions...I have and have lost another 6 lbs....the band is not a magic wand...its simply a tool that works as long as you work with it. This is my opinion...does anyone else agree? Guest guest
This is what it says on 's website: IDEAL MEAL PROCESS (rules of the pouch): 1. The patient must time meals five hours apart or the patient will get too hungry in between. 2. The patient needs to eat finely cut meat and raw or slightly cooked veggies with each meal. 3. The patient must eat the entire meal in 5-15 minutes. A 30-45 minute meal will cause failure. 4. No liquids for 1 ½ hours to 2 hours after each meal. 5. After 1 ½ to 2 hours, begin sipping water and over the next three hours slowly increase water intake. 6. 3 hours after last meal, begin drinking LOTS of water/fluids. 7. 15 minutes before the next meal, drink as much as possible as fast as possible. This is called " water loading, " IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN DRINKING OVER THE LAST FEW HOURS, THIS 'WATER LOADING' WILL NOT WORK. 8. You can water load at any time 2-3 hours before your next meal if you get hungry, which will cause a strong feeling of fullness. THREE PRINCIPLES FOR GAINING AND MAINTAINING SATIETY: 1. Fill pouch full quickly at each meal 2. Stay full by slowing the emptying of the pouch. (Eat solids. No liquids 15 minutes before and none until 1 ½ hours after the meal). A scientific test showed that a meal of egg/toast/milk had almost all emptied out of the pouch after 45 minutes. Without milk, just egg and toast, more than ½ of the meal still remained in the pouch after 1 ½ hours. 3. Protein, protein, protein. Three meals a day. No high calorie liquids. >From: rena brown <rena71857@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Re: Re: actually starting >Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2007 09:06:21 -0800 (PST) > >Hi, I don't understand one thing...You were told to eat real fast? Guest guest
//I was told not to drink with my meals...but I wasn't explained why...so I drank with my meals. // That doesn't make any sense. If you were curious why wouldn't you ask why you couldn't? why would you intentionally NOT follow a rule? // I was never told to eat as fast as possible...otherwise if you eat real slow you can eat as much as a non-banded person. // This is not an entirely true statement. Your are NOT supposed to eat fast. You are supposed to eat slow and chew chew chew. You should not eat for more then 20 min because you will be able to eat as much as you want. The band begins to empy itself and if you eat slow enough, you can keep refilling your pouch until all your food is gone. This of course defeats the purpose of the band. // I was also never explained how to eat....protein first...then veggies then carbs..// You must not have done much research because this is plastered over band sites and in this groups emails as well. //We get information when we are banded...but just not enough// It is always good to do extensive research before having major surgery. Hopefully your experience will show others how not to do things. //I went to 's webpage http://tracyslapband.com/index.htm // This is an amazing tool everyone should go to and use! //...I think people think you get banded...and boom..you're skinny...it doesn't work like that.// Amen Rosie Thanks for posting this. Guest guest
Rosie, it sounds to me like you need a fill, there is absolutely no way that I can eat and drink. If I drink with my meal my food comes back up. You also might be eating the wrong foods. Protein, Protein, Protein, Chicken, meat, veggies, fruit, soups, salads, lean cuisines, water, water, water, once in a while I have ice cream, for snack I have Wheat thins with diced tomatoes. On my bad days, I stay away from food all together and have sobe drinks and water, and soups. My weakness is chips and dips and I usually have a few at parties and that is it. The key is stop eating when you feel full, if you aren't getting full then a fill is needed. I hope this is a little helpful. Guest guest
Rosie, Hi. You stated that you were told not to drink with your meals but because you weren't told WHY you went ahead and drank with your meals anyway. You were told to eat as fast as possible?? But, you must chew, chew, chew...that doesn't allow you to eat as fast as possible. Also, you said you were never told how to eat...protein, veggies, carbs..I do not understand how that is possible. I haven't even been banded yet and I know all of this. I don't know who did your band but from what I have learned here all the correct information is given out by Dr. A and his crew. But, as you know, it is up to each individual to follow or not follow, the rules. Gonzal<roanch@...> wrote: I have a comment for everyone that has been banded or is thinking about being banded. This is my opinion...does anyone else agree?Rosie> >> > Dawn> > > > After you know you got your money for sure you will mail a deposit > of> > $500 to Nina or an address she gives you, to secure your date, she> > will have probably all ready given you some dates depending on the> > doctors sechudle.> > > > From what I was told, you will not need a passport until 2008 unless> > you are directly flying into Mexico.> > > > I'm having my RNY Gastric By Pass on the 10th, we are flying into > San> > Diego on the 8th being picked up by a driver and driven either to > the> > hotel first or hospital first (this part I'm not sure about) at the> > hospital they will do some pre op work, then you go back to the > hotel> > and get your last supper, LOL, then the next morning go to hospital> > and get your surgery, then you get up from that bed and walk those> > halls, the more you walk they say the better and faster you heal.> > > > Where do you live, in might even be possible if you are close > enought> > to just drive, it is my understand from looking at a map, that> > Mexacalli is about 1 hour from Yuma AZ.> > > > > >> > > > > _____ > > > Don't pick lemons.> See all the new> <http://autos./new_cars.html;_ylc=X3oDMTE0OGRsc3F2BF9TAzk3MTA3MDc2B> HNlYwNtYWlsdGFncwRzbGsDbmV3Y2Fycw--> 2007 cars at > <http://autos./new_cars.html;_ylc=X3oDMTE0OGRsc3F2BF9TAzk3MTA3MDc2B> HNlYwNtYWlsdGFncwRzbGsDbmV3Y2Fycw--> Autos. > > > > > > _____ > > The fish are biting.> Get> <http://us.rd./evt=49679/*http:/searchmarketing./arp/spons> oredsearch_v2.php?o=US2140 & cmp= & ctv=Q107Tagline & s=Y & s2=EM & b=50> more> visitors on your site using Search Marketing.> Food fight? Guest guest
I just had a fill..I needed it...I just didn't realize it...I also cannot drink while eating right now after my fill...but before that I could. I was definetely eating the wrong foods...that's why I say everyone really needs to be informed. After my fill...I feel a huge difference....now I can only eat a little bit..but I am now forcing myself not to drink AT ALL close to my meal times...even though its hard because I do crave water with my meals. Now if I could just get my butt exercising...I'm sure I'd loose even more but for some reason I haven't been able to get motivated enough...every day I say Im going to do it...and every day I don't. I just want everone to realize the band doesn't work if you don't work with it...I'm a perfect example...I'll keep you guys posted on my progress now that I'm changing my ways... Guest guest
Gees...I feel picked on...but I understand...my point is that not only do we need to be told what the band rules are...but also the reasons behind them, otherwise we wont understand exactly the consequences of our actions, for example...I was told not to drink with my meals...I didn't know the reason was that you stay full longer if you don't...I just thought ...I don't know what the heck I thought...I just didn't think it was as important as it is... Guest guest
Why is everone twisting my words? Yes...I was given instructions...yes I was banded with Dr. Aceves....my only point here is that everyone being banded needs as much information as possible so they don't make the same mistakes I made, not only the information, but the reason behind it...everything I said in my message is being twisted. I bet everyone in this board has had a drink with their meals...for god's sake...all I'm saying is lets inform everyone a little better. I don't know about you, but my instructions were very vague...most of the information I've acquired has been on my own and through this board. All I'm saying is we need to be informed! and yes...you are suppose to chew chew chew...but you must not sit there for longer than 20 minutes eating....those are not my words...they are straight from Mills website..... >From: jane moss <mom_jane_moss@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Re: Re: actually starting >Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2007 12:45:35 -0800 (PST) > >Rosie, > Hi. Guest guest
I'm not sure what bands Dr. A uses, I had a different surgeon.jane moss <mom_jane_moss@...> wrote: Swedish band? Is that the same as Dr. A uses?marianne_xo <marianne_xo > wrote: Dana-- I get fills regularly, just had one and there is NO restriction from early evening on. I understand about self control, however, there has been no consistency from which to get a routine that has successful results with all the fluctuations of the band. Believe the 30 lbs, it's there :(A friend of mine has lost $167 lbs in 2 yrs--RNY and she's still losing. I've heard that it can stop working after 5 yrs and I get that there are pros and cons to everything. There is no magical cure-all, I know what I have to do, however MY band has been a moving target so to speak. I spoke with a bariatric assistant this evening and he said that he's spoke with several other patients in my exact situtation with the exact band (swedish). I've not given up hope, I know there is a way for me, thanks for your support. nne> >> > Dawn> > > > After you know you got your money for sure you will mail a deposit > of> > $500 to Nina or an address she gives you, to secure your date, she> > will have probably all ready given you some dates depending on the> > doctors sechudle.> > > > From what I was told, you will not need a passport until 2008 unless> > you are directly flying into Mexico.> > > > I'm having my RNY Gastric By Pass on the 10th, we are flying into > San> > Diego on the 8th being picked up by a driver and driven either to > the> > hotel first or hospital first (this part I'm not sure about) at the> > hospital they will do some pre op work, then you go back to the > hotel> > and get your last supper, LOL, then the next morning go to hospital> > and get your surgery, then you get up from that bed and walk those> > halls, the more you walk they say the better and faster you heal.> > > > Where do you live, in might even be possible if you are close > enought> > to just drive, it is my understand from looking at a map, that> > Mexacalli is about 1 hour from Yuma AZ.> > > > > >> > > > > > > Have a great day,> Trina Antonopoulos > > > Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited. > > > > > > The fish are biting.> Get more visitors on your site using Search Marketing.> Check out the all-new beta - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster.
