For me the important side of the lapband is the fill...if I had the discipline I would not have had the lapband. Saying all that it is important to find someone to do the fill. I had my lap band on June 8th. I went for a fill on Aug 5 and I went for a fill on Sept 6. I will go for another fill on Oct 7th more than likely. Tracey one of the long termers said it would take a few fills to hit that sweet spot....I think I am almost there.

I am saying all this to say...you need to budget in the fact that you may need to get fills. I have decided to fly back and forth to Mexicali from Tampa FL. It is not the easiest thing to do right now...but it is important for me to get this weight off.

If you go to a local dr to have a fill find out how many fills they have done. Dr A and Dr Campos make is painless (I hate shots so this is very important for me).

Even though I gained some of the weight back I still have lost some and right now I am once again on a spiral downward...PTL.

Bottomline...make sure you either find a fill dr close that will take patients that had surgery outside of the US or plan to fly back and forth to Mexicali.

It is always nice to see the gang in Mexicali again. It is like going home...Yolanda is so sweet and caring.

Hi Rena, Welcome to the site!!! I was banded on 4/20/06 with Dr. Acevas. As I am sure you have already read he is a wonderful Doctor and his staff is awesome. I live in California and I have had 3 fills so far. My 1st two were here in California and my 3rd I went back to Dr. Acevas. From the fill Dr. here in California I payed $300.00 for the 1st fill; the 2nd fill was free and then all my fills after that are $175.00 but with him he doesnt use flouroscopy. That was my biggest reason to go back to Dr. Acevas for my 3rd fill. I wasnt getting the restriction that I needed with my 1st and 2nd fills. I wish you success in whatever your decision is. If you decide to have surgery with Dr. Acevas you will not regret it. Take Care, Tammy I. 4/20/06 248/220/130??

Hi Rena, Dana here. I think $200 is on the low end for US fill Doc's. That's what I pay in land, lot's of others pay alot more. I would go back to Dr.A if at all possible! He's great, and It made me feel better that I could see how much was passing through my band & just get the "ok" that the band was where it should be.... I had my last (3rd) fill with him and it was a real good one! (i'm still tight & still losing!!) Some US doc's do Flouroscopy, but you may have to really search :(

Best of luck....:)

--- Hi Rena, a 100 miles for two hundred is a bargain or most folks,

I travel 300 miles and pay 350 X3 and yep my credit card is going to

take a long time to payoff. However if you need fills you gotta do

it. Its the very heart of the band working with you. It took me 3

fills to get to this fantastic restriction that I have now, and I

just hope I can maintain until Im caught up on the cost. But what the

hay in a year or two of weight loss we will live longer and it will

all hae been worth every penny. wishing you well, vickie

Hello Rena: I am in Phoenix so I had my first fill with Dr. A. I plan to have them all through him but your air fare would make it tuff to come back for fills. If you have a doctor that will do them for only $200 I would "jump on that" I have heard of doctors that charge as high as $800 for initial visits and $300-$500 per fill (American doctors are so greedy sometimes. I have heard many have quit doing the surgery and now only do fills. As fpor using Dr A. I cant recomend him enough. Hello, I'm from Prescott, Ark...96 miles from Little Rock...Dr. Wellburn in LR is around 200 per fill (or so I was told by one of his patients). There is a married couple (doctors) who are only 45 miles from me (in Texarkana, TX) that perform the lap band surgery...I've went through them with my insurance but was turned down, I'm appealing it now and should know something any day (I don't figure they'll change their minds). But I'm hoping I can call them and see if they'll do my fills (hopefully cheaper than LR)...I'm really having a hard time justifying having the surgery if I have to pay for it...We live comfortably but not enough to have thousands of dollars lying around...I keep telling myself "I'm worth it" lol...(sounds like a hair comercial)...But I usually don't spend that kind of money on myself it's hard to do it, even though I want it pretty bad...I want to be slim (like I use to be)...I know it will only get worse (obesity runs in my family big time) I

don't want to wait until I'm 300 lbs before I take control...And it's sure scary thinking of going to Mexico... I'd love to hear your story if you have time to email me...Thanks a bunch! My two cents worth about fills: I live in Mobile, Alabama. There is no one here that will do fills for Mexican patients (typcial, arrogant US doctors, they are!!). There are a few doctors within driving distance but I try to keep that a secret from my husband! :) I go back to Dr. Aceves. I will not allow another doctor to touch my band at this point. My round trip ticket costs right under $400.00 and I typcially add a few days extra for a mini-vacation. My husband went with me for the surgery. My youngest son and I went for a mini-4 day vacation in San Diego in May. Now, I am heading back for my 2nd fill in October and my 23 year old neice is going along for a mini-vacation too!!! I figure this is a great way to get to travel!! lol Actually, to have the band filled at the closer places would cost me over $500.00. I know I pay more

for that for hotels for 3 or 4 nights but the plane ticket and the cost for the fill with the greatest doctor on the face of this earth is actually about the same or less than local places/doctors. I know other people go elsewhere and have fills and many do just fine. I also know of some others who have lots of problems with fills done by other doctors and they end up spending the little extra and going back to Dr. Aceves. It's just a personal choice. Don't make a decision on having the band without factoring in the cost of the aftercare (i.e.fills). I will say that every penny I spend on my band is worth it...no doubt! Yes, I am in Arkansas and got my band from Dr. Aceves. I lived in

Newton county at the time and I'm now in Yell county near Dardanelle

and ville. I get fills from Dr. Luttrell--he is in the

database on " our " web page. I think his rates have changed for

Mexican banded patients so you should call. My next fill is next

week and the receptionist this time asked if he did my band and when

I said no, she said " When I started this job I was told the rules

for Mexican banded patients was..... " and she did not finish the

sentence. I had already told her the charge was $150 each for the

first two fills but the surgery center raised their fee from $100 to

$250 making my total $400 last time. Dr. Wellborn was charging $700

for the first fill for Mexican-banded patients (last January when I

was searching for a fill doctor). Dr. Luttrell's phone is 800 594

9890 (pronounced LUT' rull). No need to be afraid of going to

Mexico--the care there is the best!!!!!!!!!! Best wishes for your

decision-making process. I do recommend finding a fill doctor

BEFORE surgery (something I did not do and it was stressful to be

doing it after the fact during recovery). Whatever it costs--you

are worth it. Groceries cost less, your health will be better and

as somebody pointed out--it is cheaper than a funeral. I have my

joy and my life back and that is priceless!!!

Hi, I did call a doctor who is only 45 miles from me and they said they would do my fills for $300.00...Not bad considering the other fees plus I'm not out much on time and gas...I'm pertty sure I'm going to have the surgery in Mexico. I've been researching several doctors and I have to make a choice. Has anyone heard of Dr. Joya or Dr. Kuri. Dr. Joya's price is 8k with airfare included. I'm not trying to beall about money but it does help...I got his name from a local lady who went to him for her surgery and she was very happy with him...But I have to admit I really like Nina and Dr. A, from all I've read about them and through my emails to Nina... I'm wondering about the liquids. I've read about bringing some with me but will the airlines let you, since they banded liquid items? I was in the same position. I was thinking about a doctor in TJ that would have saved me $1500 dollars but I just felt more comfortable with Dr. A and Nina AND this support group. I love reading and talking to all these wonderful bandsters. Dr. A. pays half your airfare so give it some more thought and do what your gut tells you. That's what I did and I am so glad to be flying off to meet him in person in TEN DAYS. Woo Hoo!

Hi Rena,

I live in South Carolina. I have a business credit card that earns

skymiles. It allows me to earn 15,000 miles per month. A flight to

San Diego is 25,000. I charge my vendors each month and write the

check to the credit card company in full to pay for my supplies. I

have done the same thing for family members to earn miles. At the

time of the charge I write a check for that amount out to the credit

card company of their choice. I don't make it out to them, just

incase they get " needy " . Anyhow, it's a great way to earn quick

miles. Maybe you have a friend that is in business for themselves

that is willing to allow you to do the same thing.

Hope this helps,

, Below is my picture, that way when you see me you'll know what I look like and not a total stranger entering your room...lol...That was taken last year, just add small silver glasses... I'm so ready to board the plane...It's really going to be funny...My husband "Jim" has never flown and he's asking question like: can you walk around? Then he said "doesn't matter, my seat belt isn't coming off". And when he found out we'd have to land and re-load later, he nearly fell out of his chair...He said (in a loud shocked voice) "you mean we'll land and take off 4 different time"? But he's doing it for me...He's very sweet! I almost wish I was going alone, just so he wouldn't be alone while I'm in surgery...He'll be worried... Well, until I see you take care...6 days and counting... _,_._,___

Hi Rena!

Sherrie here. I will see you there too. Don't worry about your husband being alone. He can hang out with mine. I'm sure he won't want to be by my bedside constantly so maybe he can visit for a while. Lets see now, there's you and and myself and did I see something about someone named Carole? This should be fun. Can't believe I am saying that about SURGERY for crying out loud. Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Rena: You are so beautiful. We can't wait to see all of the before and

after pictures from you. Your hubby will do just fine. I'm so excited for

you. My two-week phase ends this Thursday and it has really passed very

quickly. Best of luck to you and all the girls next week. I'll be thinking

about you and sending many positive thoughts your way! I'm down 12 pounds.

YPPPEEEE!

Hi ! Thank you, that's sweet of you to say...I do need to get a full body shot, but did you notice that wasn't done...I've always hated, and I mean hated pictures taken of me...The camera doesn't lie, but I think sometimes it has it in for me, I always look bigger in pictures and I'd be thinking (I'm not as big as I look in the picture, am I?) I try to deceive the camera...I've never liked my pictures taken but soon, I'll be posing! lol... aaaaaaah, the good life still to come! <ldccox@...> wrote: Rena: You are so beautiful.
