Guest guest
I wear the Phonak Supero 412 and as far as music goes- THEY STINK!!! I gave up listening to music and going to dances because it sounds horrible. My audie says nothing will make music sound good. She recommends getting use to no music and be grateful for what you have and not to have big expectations. Kozlik <lisak70@...> wrote:Jan, I currently wear Oticon DigiFocus II super power BTEs. I also have a pair of older, analog Oticon 380Ps. My experience has been similar to yours in that they are primarily designed to enhance speech -- not music. When I saw my hearing aid audi earlier this year (before I considered getting a CI), she recommended that I try the Phonak Supero 412s. Unfortunately, my health insurance wouldn't cover the cost so I was left with my Oticons. I was really disappointed because I had heard so many good things about them from people I knew. I'm curious to know how your hearing aids change the way music sounds. The reason I ask is because my Oticons (both the analogs and the digitals) have only a single program which doesn't make music sound any different than speech. Guest guest
" She recommends getting use to no music and be grateful for what you have and not to have big expectations " Elsa, That's basically what I've resorted to. While I do listen to music every now and then, it's certainly not the same amount of time I used to spend when I had better hearing. She's exactly right that we should be grateful for what we can hear. Some of my friends have asked me why I bother listening to music with direct audio input. I always tell them that hearing " something " is better than hearing nothing at all. Not every person with severe or profound hearing loss/deafness can enjoy music. If you're one of those who can, take advantage!!
Guest guest
Jan's question to Elsa is a good one. When I first received my Oticon digital aids, I hated the way they sounded (very muffled). I repeatedly went back to my audi for readjustments but for whatever reason, we couldn't seem to " get it right. " It wasn't until my CI audi tweaked them (I don't know what she did) that they finally sounded acceptable. I still had trouble understanding speech but they sounded much better than before. Guest guest
Yes-- My daughter got married 5 weeks ago so as early as March we tried taking off the t-coil and putting in the music program so I could enjoy the wedding. Went to my nephew's wedding and it was a nightmare. Finally turned them off. I then switched the supero 412's for some Phonaks that have the dual microphones and 5 programs instead of 3. We lowered the ceiling on the aids to see if music would sound better. Went to another wedding. Music sounded bad. Finally came to terms with the fact that I would not be able to hear music at my daughter's wedding. The only time I cried was when she danced with my husband to the same song that I danced with my dad at my wedding and not being able to understand one word. It just sounded like noise. So I stopped listening to music altoigther. I took a CI evaluation on August 24 and scored 48% on the HINT(aided) but Audie ( a different one0 thinks I still have too much hearing for CI.. The doctor wants to see me in 6 months to check my hearing again. This is a center that does CI's. The doctor that i am seeing has performed about 60. The audie's that work with his office are the ones that have a hard time recommending CI's, even though they program them. They say things like 'It will be different. " " You will be disappointed. etc. etc. Actually the 2 audi's that are not connected to the Ci center and that I see in my home town are the 2 that have told me to look into having a CI. Go Figure.Jan Christensen <willwriteforfood@...> wrote:Elsa, I sincerely suggest that you find another audie pronto. Did she even TRY to program those aids for music? Does she even know this is possible, I wonder? Jan >I wear the Phonak Supero 412 and as far as music goes- THEY STINK!!! Guest guest
Hello , I agree with you about the Phonak Supero 412's concerning music. I've enjoyed music all my life and they do indeed stink!!! The music setting seems nothing more than an advertising technique. Your audie was very mean in telling you something like that. Sometimes things are better left unsaid. i would have told the audie that omment was very insensitive. After all they don't have the profound hearing loss! Guest guest
Hi Larry, Actually, it was someone else's audi who told her not to have high expectations for music. Earlier this year my audi recommended the Phonak Supero 412s after I asked about hearing aids with directional microphones. My insurance wouldn't cover the cost, so I decided to look into a CI after knowing that I couldn't get any more powerful hearing aids that the ones I was already using (Oticon DigiFocus II super power and Oticon 380Ps). Sometime after I've had a chance to get used to my CI, I plan to see my hearing aid audi so we can find another hearing aid for my right ear. I'd like to try the Oticon Syncro but again, that will depend on what my insurance decides to cover. <smile>
Guest guest
Hello Friends, I have a feeling here we are in front of a lack of diplomacy of a professionnal. It is safe not to have too high expectations and to work on getting the best results possible in working for, if our expectations are too great, we run the risk of becoming disappointed or depressed about some thing. When I decide to get implanted, which is probable in some time, I will tell myself; I do hope to achieve the best hearing my work in exposing myself to communications situations but at the same time, I do feel it is important not to set for ourselves goals which may be difficult to achieve. hoping that professionals woul dsome times learn the art of diplomacy and a little psychology At 15:30 2004-09-06, you wrote: >Hi Larry, > >Actually, it was someone else's audi who told her not to have high >expectations for music. > >Earlier this year my audi recommended the Phonak Supero 412s after I asked >about hearing aids with directional microphones.
