JB....I just traded my body processor in for an Auria. I only used it one

month and once I got the BTE never used it again. Right now I have two BTE's

and have no regrets at all. I really don't know why the audiologists keep

saying we need both....I sure don't!

Our audiologists and as well the VP of the Advanced Bionics told us to get 2

BTEs and we are very pleased with the it. BTEs is very lightweight and we

often forget that we have it on. BWP reminds us of the body aid hearing aids

with cord we worn years ago.

That is majority of reason that turned me off until recently, when I learn

that i can get the CI in BTE. Still confused as how some got two as I got only

one. I was told, one, and there one replacement if i " kill " what i have now.

I was very fortunate that my insurance paid for two BTEs as well my brother.

We both have our own insurance. I'm wondering if those are on Medicare or

Medicaid can only receive one BTE or BWP.

I have to admit that I was born deaf since birth and was implanted 6 months

ago. I can hear the music and sing along if I know the words to the song and

listen to the radio and can pick up some words. It is quite amazing how well I

can pick up after being totally deaf for 40+ years. My brother and I were

implanted on the same day and we both are doing very remarking with our CI. We

both have Advanced Bionic--Auria. We both talk to each other on the regular

phone. We are forever grateful for this wonderful technology to enable us to

hear those incredible sounds and speeches.

Sorry to tell you that we use the BTEs. I need to add that we use our Sony

CD Walkman to our Direct Connect to listen music, TV, radio and Book on Tape

for listening therapy. It is a wonderful tool!

all these comments are great... but can you hear music with bte??

JB....YES! The Auria BTE is the exact duplicate of the body processor...runs

the same programs and electrodes and has three program slots. Music sounds

the same because you use the exact same programs with the BTE. If music had

sounded better with my body processor I would have kept it rather than trading

it in for an Auria......music is fantastic!!

When I was hooked up, the 3G hadn't been out yet so I got the BWP. It was

VERY convenient to have it because I could push all the buttons and really fine

tune my hearing for different listening situations. The 3G came out after I

was pretty set with the program I liked so I didn't have to go for as much fine

tuning. People have asked what we would get if we got hooked up now. Since

I only wear the 3G now, part of me says I would get 2BTEs. But the BWP was so

invaluable that I couldn't see not having it then. Hard to say.

One other thing I just thought of:

since the 3G is a different processor than the BWP, who knows which one would

sound better? Some poeple I know like the BTE better and others like the BWP

better. I guess it also depends on whether the wire on the BWP bothers you.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, so much choice!!

The same reason I didn't want a CI until they came out with the BTE. Also

when I talked to the sturgeon he told me insurance will only pay for

one. Wonder if it is 'who' you talk to?

I don't know of anyone at our center at U of M in Michigan who got

two processors. I'll check on this and see if maybe the once in a

lifetime replacement is the 2nd processor and maybe they just hold

it until needed.

Will see what I can find out.

I have Medicare and an HMO supplementary insurance and I received two processors

with my implant.

I should add that in most cases..it's the way the center applies for the

processors, much like already said. I do believe that anyone with

medicare or medicaid alone would only get one processor but I'm not positive

about that.

The same programs that go on the body processor can be put on the BTEs and I

know with the 3G you can direct connect with both (can't speak for the others)

so if you find a program you prefer for music - yes.. you can have it on the

BTE.

Most of us just like to use a headset (I purchased mine at Radio Shack) that

covers the ear well which works very well. If you are listening in your home -

you can loop the living area and with the 3G flip on the telecoil of the BTE if

you prefer a direct connection. It gives the exact same effect as wiring into

your equipment. We have loop instructions in our link section.

There are several options available for music. We all test different methods to

see which one we prefer.

There's nothing to be sorry about. Music can be as enjoyable on the 3G as the

body worn. These BTEs are wonderful. It's amazing techology and we are all

very fortunate to be sharing this information.

Re: two btes?

sorry to ask again but what is " Direct Connect " ? is this on the bte or

processor? i so appreciate all the feedback on this forum.. thanks everybody!!

The only way you are going to learn is by asking questions so please ask away.

When you receive your processor, you also receive assistive equipment to make

assist you in certain special hearing needs. Some people use them and others

don't.

There are wires that directly connect to the processors on one end and the

walkman on the other end so that you directly connect. It's just one of the

many ways to use your implant. Some never use the additional equipment while

others love it. It's an individual preference issue.

I hope this explaination helps.

Hi jb:

I use the BWP at work because it seems a bit clearer than the 3G--I wear the

3G when I get home because it's more convenient. The BWP I have has a program

called ARDO that I sometimes like that the 3G doesn't currently support--it's

better at the movies because it acts like Whisper for voices but suppresses

noise.

I think the increased function outweighs the hassle with wires in many

circumstances. Others have said they thought the 3G sounded better than the

BWP.

I'm glad to have one of each.

Thanks for the comments, Hal. I do think men prefer the body worn more than

women because it's more convenient for a man to wear this than a woman.

Just my thoughts.
