Guest guest
Hi Again Sam, I'm glad we could help you with your question regarding using the Hearing Aid with the CI. Answering the question about bilaterals can not really be an accurate answer but it is more an assumption so please don't feel that I'm an authority on this question. Nucleus has been involved in bilateral trials in the US for both adults and children for quite some time now. Med-El has many bilaterals in Europe and in fact it is the norm to implant bilaterally in Europe. Now they are beginning to do Med-El bilaterals in the US. Some members of this list were involved in the trials of both implant types. Others had medical reasons for needing a second implant. Others have been fortunate enough to have medical doctors who saw the need to have sound on both sides as is known with hearing aids (you already feel the need to use a HA/CI combination). Of those who have requested insurance coverage for the second implant, many have gotten it yet others have not. To get this insurance approval is indeed fortunate. As far as I know, there have not yet been any Clarion bilateral trials but I suspect that there will be and once that happens, you'll see posts from them as well. My belief is that the trials come first and once they are completed, the need is substantiated. Alice N24 11/99 N24C 04/03 Bilateral

Guest guest
Hi Yep,you're right,i do live in minnesota.Myron and I are flying to Seattle on Monday and will be there til Friday. We then come to portland to visit our son who recently moved there.Wish there was time to come see you but we will be rushed.Next time we will have more time. I do hope both you and will get bilateral implants!!I would give you mine but i have become pretty attached to it.If Insurance co. knew the difference they make they woouldn't hessitate in covering two.I do think the time will come when it will be very common.I was lucky to have had my N22 for 4 years before getting my N24C..I found out first hand just how much a second implant adds to my hearing.
