Hi,

I am 6 months post op and I do get cold as well. I did buy an electric

blanket recently. Even when I exercise I wear a sweat-shirt. My nose gets

cold, not my hands and it is kind of strange.

Sincerely Yours, Glenn 325/230 and feeling great!

I am so THRILLED that I feel cold now. I tell everyone that Dr. R cut my

thermostat too! I was so miserable with feeling fat and hot and having hot

flashes. I always felt like a furnace was burning inside me at all times.

I do get uncomfortable at times feeling TOO cold but I feel it is easier to

warm up than it was to cool off. I could put sweaters on or blankets to warm

up but I could strip down naked and still be extremely hot.

I think we get cold now because we are not eating as much (full in the

furnace). I find if I move around more, do some jumping jacks, something to

get the blood flowing I am not as cold. Maybe you can try that.

I am 11 months PO and have been having a problem feeling cold all the

time, especially hands. Do any of you other PO MGBers have this

problem and does it get any better? I would truly hate to spend the

summer wearing sweaters.

Thanks!

Yes. Seems to be common with most post op's. Prior to surgery I was burning up

ALL the time. Others could be cold and I'd be sweating. I froze this winter.

And I'm looking forward to my second summer of not burning up all the time :-)

Helps with the electric bill TREMENDOUSLY <grin>. Being anemic, I believe, can

also cause a person to be cold all the time, so it might not be a bad idea to

have that checked. But if you're coming up on a year, you'll be doing your one

year labs anyway. I STILL say that I'd rather be cold than hot. You can always

add more layers but sometimes you can get in trouble for removing too many

layers <lol>.

I also feel cold most of the time, especially my hands. I also have

Hashimoto's thyroiditis and attributed it to that....it's interesting that

you are experiencing the same thing. Anyone else finding this to be true?

My surgery was nearly 3 years ago.

The new manual says if you are having a problem with being cold your

hemoglobin and hemocrit may be low. Call your PCP and get a blood test to

see if this is the problem.

My feeling cold all the time was due to a climbing TSH level. Thyroid

function going down makes your TSH level go up. You therefore need more

synthroid to replace what your thryoid gland is not producing any more.

There are other deficiencies that can cause this, too. Lynn Rembert and I

went out for Mexican and drank virgin frozen drinks. We were sooo cold that

we left and got in the car and turned the heat on high. I swear you could

see steam come out of the car when we opened it up at her house. At work I

wear a sweat shirt, tank top and sometimes a short sleeve shirt together and

still have to use a portable heater to keep me warm. All of this has

improved since my synthroid has been increased. I also have energy again and

am not a slug in the evenings. I would hit the bed (and the electric blanket

on high) to get warm. It would take an hour or so to get me feeling

comfortable.

I have the cold feeling sometimes. I wore a jacket once last July.

Only thing I think of was how terrible it was to always be sweaty when I

was pre op. I can take a little chill, reminds me that I'm new and

improved. Good luck.

I am cold all the time not just my hands, personally for myself I had

rather wear a sweater in the Summer than sweat like a " pig " just

walking across the room!! I have decided we are never going to have a

perfect situation that suits us all. Just enjoy!!

Too funny, I know what you mean and I'm a big King fan. My arms

alone could send people screaming. I'm a college instructor and

sometimes when I point to the board my bat wings lift me a good 6 inches

off the ground. So embarrassing, but so worth it. Audry

Removing them could get us all in trouble. If you seen what was under

all

that clothing, lol. It could be a great King movie.
