My first implant was approved by BC/BS RI BlueCHip which is kinda like an HMO

and the second implant was approved by BC/BS RI Healthmate Coast to coast which

is the PPO. my reimplantation surgery portion was also approved by the BC/BS RI

PPO.

I have Aetna. Interesting that they denied my request at first.

After I appealed, they approved it for Bilateral implants. However,

I'm only going to have the implant done on the left ear for now.

Phyllis,

I have a fine doctor too. He said he would take care of all my papperwork.

This is one of the things I was worried about. My surgery is two weeks from

yesterday. I'm counting the days!! Larry

Hi Dora. This is Irv in California, who is waiting to be evaluated for a CI.

To answer your question, Kaiser Permanente - actual name) which I have also

is an HMO. They are one of, if not the largest health care provider out here.

They have there own hospitals and hearing aid centers. From what I read on

this forum, they are pretty independent with their positions, which seem to

vary from location to location. At my Kaiser hospital in Santa Clara, they are

just beginning the CI program although CI is not new to Kaiser in general.

From what I understand, they have been doing surgeries at the Oakland hospital

for some time and apparently same for back East. Best regards.

Irv
