I'm not holding my breath for the hair regeneration project to produce

results.

There's a lot more money to be made by getting hair to grow on the out side

of the noggin than inside the ear and yet scientists haven't even been able to

do that--Rogaine didn't work for me!!!!

Hal, you're right there!

I've read about the protein thing related to hair cell regeneration, it's

the same protein thing being research for cancer cure. Maybe cancer cure and

hair cell regeneration will be achieve at almost the same time.

By the way I read the Powerpoint presentation from University of Miami

School of Medicine that totally implantable cochlear implants will be

possible in 20 years from now.

This is somewhat off-topic, I'm not sure if you guys already know this, that

hair in our head can be re-grown. A popular remedy used here in Philippines

is Mane 'n Tail, the shampoo used for horse will make bald people grow hair.

I do not have deep understanding in anatomy of human head's hair, just

wanted to share the solution used by some bald people to get their hair

re-grown.

Hal,

I loved this. Of course I know you and I could picture you saying this. I also

have to say that you have a good point here. I never thought of it quite that

way. Great Answer !!!! <smile>

It's good that you have access to it. Any info whether the hair cell

regeneration will also benefit cochlear implantees.

Hair cell regeneration

Hi All,

University of Michigan is actively doing haircell regeneration at the

Kresge Hearing Research Institute. I participate in their research for CI

users, but there is a LOT of research going on right now with the hair cell

regeneration. However, it will be years before it gets to the stage where

humans can benefit. So unless we sprout wings and start eating worms, I

suggest getting a CI to hear now.

Hair Cell Regeneration

I have several friends who have been waiting for this to take place for

several years now. The idea is wonderful and probably will be reality some

day and from what I have researched it will be 10 - 15 years. These friends

chose to implant one ear and save the other for better technology (the

totally implantable or regenerated hair cells) but to be honest with all of

you, my feelings on the hair cell regeneration are that it will work for

some but not for all.

Making the choice to wait 5, 10 or 15 years is yours but you are going to

miss a lot while you are waiting.
