Thanks.. I think my brother will qualify.. Not sure if he will go

through with it unless i do real well. With the exception of an

accident in which I lost all hearing in my right ear, my brother and

i have just about the same hearing loss..

Surgery tomorrow

Hi all,Well I'm off tomorrow for the open surgery. I've been trying to stay away from the board for awhile because reading about Bianka and some of the other problems has only made me more nervous. Talk about NERVES. I didn't realize the older you get the more you worry! When I had the myotomy done 20 years ago I don't remember being worried about it in the least. I suppose at 20 you think your invincible... at 40 you start realizing your not....LOL Hopefully everything will go well. Thanks again to everyone for their support. I probably won't be back home until Saturday or Sunday, but I'll let everyone know how it went as soon as I can.Sharlene

Sharlene - you are in my thoughts & prayers. I have taken breaks from the board as well, esp. when things are more of a "downer". I'm sure you will do great....I'm 38 and it went great for me, but I know the open surgery is a little tougher. I'm confident for you, though! Keep us posted - Cindi in PA

Surgery Tomorrow

Hi Gang,I've only posted once before, but read messages everyday. I'm scheduled for a myotomy tomorrow morning and hope that will bring an end to 9 years of fooling with this condition. in Dallas, Dr. Aranoff at Medical City is doing the procedure. He seems very knowledgeble about A and has done over 50 of these surgeries. More than anyone else in our area. I'll see how it goes, and if all goes well, will add him to our database.Anyway, just wanted to ask that you all say a prayer for me and be ready for the many questions I'm sure I'll have after the surgery. Like, when can I eat something besides jello again??? Been on a clear liquid diet since Monday and it is really getting old! Thanks for all the wonderful information you guys put on this site. It has really helped me as I was going through testing waiting on the final diagnosis.By the way - to all you Yankees fans-- Go Texas Rangers!!!! You can keep A-Rod, we'll take Soriano any day.Kathy in Fort Worth

Hi Kathy,

Good luck tomorrow. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Hopefully you'll

be eating regular food in no time. I had the open surgery on July

7th and was eating solid food about 6 days later. From some of the

other posts, it sounds like it depends on the doctor though. Just

remember to take it slow.

I may have missed it, but are they doing the Lap or open surgery. In

any case, it sounds like you're in good hands. Keep us posted!

Kathy,

Good luck with the surgery, I know all will go smoothely (but, I'll

still pray, never hurts!). As for the Rangers! I like them, always

have. Especially like A-Rod (oh wait, he's a Yankee) and Pudge

(ooops, sorry, ya lost him too) and Palmiero (wow, sorry, not doing

so well hehehehe!). Anyway, I love Texas, I would really love to

take a vacation there (seem like my kind of people!). As for

Alfonzo.....Love him! But, be careful come October, he seems to

choke in the big games (of course this is a BIG problem if you're a

26 time World Champion team!).

Mike (Yanks have a cozy 9 game lead....time to coast into October!)

TRACY, MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU'RE BACK AND HOW IT WENT AS

I AM TO GO DEC 13

Surgery tomorrow

Hi everyone I am leaving here tomorrow on a very wonderful but scary

journey. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow and I am trying to keep

busy so as not to worry to much. I found a penny heads up this

morning and I picked it up and will bring it with me for luck. I

figured that this was a sign that all was going to be well. I will

let you know how it went when I get back. Thanks to everyone for all

your help and advice. Did anyone go home on liquid codine? I heard

that some people do.

I am sooo happy for you! It is your turn

to feel better!! Wahoo!! J In a matter of a few weeks, you will be feeling so much

better!!! I hope you have found a wonderful, experienced surgeon who knows how

to take care of you! I can’t wait to hear how you are doing!

Take Care!!

Surgery

tomorrow

Hey fellow achalasians!

After four months of waiting and tests and waiting

and tests and

waiting (seems like forever, but I guess it wasn't

really that long)

I will be headed to the hospital tomorrow morning

for my

Heller's/wrap.

I hardly ever get spasms now, and I'm hoping that

I'll be one of the

lucky few who don't get an increase after

surgery. But even if I

do, I know I'm doing the right thing.

I think I may send a thank you note to the

radiologist who first

suspected achalasia. He knew right away what

that bird's beak

picture was - no missed diagnosis for me!!

I'm extremely grateful

to him after reading many of the stories

here. I first went to my

general practitioner on August 25th. Not too

bad a turn-around.

I'll be back after the surgery to tell you all how

it went.

Woo hoo!!

Good luck I hope everything works out perfectly for you. I went to

my practitioner for the first time I think it was around July. It

feels like a very long time for me too. I have an appointment with a

surgeon on Thursday. I am looking forward to surgery although I am

nervous.
