There's a lof of confusing information out there on the net and one doesn't really notice unless you've done some research at trustworthy places! Did you buy an FM system to go with the processor? Or does one come with the package when you get your CI? Pam

Guest guest
Hi Pam, The AB implant uses the T-mic. They do not have a telecoil. The Nucleus has a telecoil and does not have a T-mic. I don't believe that the Med-El has either a T-mic or a Telecoil. The T-mic is a small device that the AB users add to their processor. It points toward the inside of the ear and the sound comes thru the T-mic. The telecoil on the Nucleus is used much like the telecoil on a hearing aid but in my opinion is much better than that on a hearing aid. I don't need the telecoil for the phone as I can just put the receiver up to my ear and the mic on the processor is strong enough to pick up most voices. Only when the person is not speaking clearly do I flip on the telecoil but I love it in the meetings that I go to that are in a looped arena which in my case have been numerous. Guest guest
Oh.. I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for letting us know. OK.. the option for a telecoil is available on the Auria which is the most recent AB processor. Sorry I missed that. Guest guest
Lorie, Is the Auria t coil built in or add on? The web site was not claer. If its add on, I can understand why most users would not prefer it.<< it's an add-on but while it was being developed people were tested for preference -using the T-coil or using the T-mic on the phone (not about convenience but about sound quality). They preferred the T-mic. I know a few people use the T-coil for a looped situation. People experience too much interference from computer monitors etc. to prefer the T-coil. Most of the people I know who use the 3G only use the T-coil on rare occasions. Maybe that is just my experience, though a lot of people on this list rave about it and then say they rarely use it. I think the T-mic is wonderful, nothing to switch, just hold the phone to your ear. I have been with too many people who couldn't make a phone call in a place like an airport because they were relying on a t-coil that was experiencing major interference. Different things work for different people. This is allowing a choice. You can wear the T-coil all the time BTW. You just wouldn't have the T-mic on at the same time. And could have your settings at 50/50 if you wanted to do that (on one of the three programs). Lorie Clarion 1.2 5/96 NYC
Guest guest
Just to add to Lorie's post, my audi told me today that some people report being able to hear better (in quiet or noise) when they use the T-mic.

Having the sound collected by the external ear sounds much more natural. I'm sure there are exceptions however! I had problems with a hearing aid telecoil working in an office and I have been with 3G users who experienced interference. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the teleocil, but the t-mic works great with no chance of interference. BTW, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your programming. That would drive me nuts! I hope it's resolved soon. Lorie

Guest guest
Lorie, The tele coil is not exempt from interference, its in its nature. But it works 100% when one knows this. I can make it buzz, I know where to stand and make it buzz. So naturally, I dont stand there when I am using the t coil. And I dont hold the phone at an angle, just slightly higher is all. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Shoot for the moon. Guest guest
Pam, You can buy loop systems for home use. Or you can make your own. There are a couple files in the CI Hear file section. In the event you are not inclined to do this, you might know someone who can do it. Its quite simple but then I used to work in electronics. LOL It takes a small amplifier, a handful of connectors and telephone wire. I had the amp and telephone wire so just got the connectors from Radio Shack. The loop is plugged into the amp, which is then connected to the TV's audio outputs on the back. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Sign in front of church in Montpelier, VT: Bingo Friday night at 8:00pm Quickies Thursday at 7:30pm. & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Portland, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rlclark77@... http://home.comcast.net/~rlclark77/

Guest guest
Pam, Right on! Yesterday, while downtown, I stopped in a store that sells Bose systems. They are pricey but they deliver wonderful sound in a small package. The one I looked at it is a table top model, with radio and CD player, $499. Hmmm, reminds me, I need to go to Amazon and order a CD of Christmas music..... *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Worry is like a rocking chair - it gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere. --Dorothy Galyean & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Portland, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rlclark77@... http://home.comcast.net/~rlclark77/
