Guest guest
Hi everyone, Sorry for the length! I have been reading everyone posts about everything- especially the weight gain and thinking well I haven't had to worry about that- thank goodness! But then all of the sudden- boom! I gained about 5 lbs over about 6 months then it seemed like overnight I gained another 5 lbs! I have " fat " clothes that are too tight and my regular clothes don't fit.- a year ago I wore size 6 pants, then I went up to an 8- and last weekend I had to go buy size 10 pants just so I would have clothes for work! I am like everyone else in that I don't want to gain my weight back and I don't think I ever will, and just this summer my doctor remarked about how my weight has remained steady for 4 years. I had the MGB July 1, 2003 with Dr. R. a six foot bypass. I lost steadily and even though my weight didn't reflect it- I weighed between 143-146 most of the time- I looked like I weighed about 130-135. I am 5'5 1/2 " - my legs and arms are thinner than they ever were. I was a size 6-8 and a 4 in a skirt so I didn't let the scale numbers get to me-even though my original goal was 125- So anyway now suddenly I am gaining weight! There are a couple of things I am wondering about- 1) I had an iron infusion in June and now I am not eating ice anymore so maybe I have replaced that with higher calorie items- but I don't think so. 2) I started taking the Citracel Caplets because I was having gas pains everytime I put any food in my mouth at all- my husband had the MGB and he said they worked for him for that problem. So the gas pains are gone and I am wondering if I have just started to absorb more calories thru my intestines. Before food passed thru very quickly, but with the Citracel things have slowed down and I wonder if that is contributing to the weight gain. Anyone else experiencing this? Dr. R- are my intestines finally compensating? Help! _________________________________________________________________ More photos; more messages; more whatever – Get MORE with Windows Live™ Hotmail®. Guest guest
I've had the same thing happen... basically the same weights, although I did get a little lower. I remembered being told that it is common 2 years out to gain back 20 or so lbs. At my low I was starting to panic because I hadn't stopped losing and was in a size 2-4 skirts.. 4-6 pants. I got back up to the 8-10 size and just kind of started freaking out a little. I did not want the weight back. So I readjusted my diet and my exercise routine and I'm back down a little, still not as low as I want to be, but in a comfort zone. I feel like the jumpstart to my healthier lifestyle is over, and it is all up to me now. We all either hear about or know about people who have gained all their weight back, etc... It is only a jumpstart, a small miracle, but still just a small one. > > > > > Hi everyone, > > Sorry for the length! > > I have been reading everyone posts about everything- especially the weight gain and thinking well I haven't had to worry about that- thank goodness! Guest guest
I am also experiencing weight control issues for the first time since having the MGB 05-31-03. For me, I was 142 lbs, at my lowest weight, and stayed around 145-148 for four years. This summer however, I had to take prednisone for poison oak that got really bad, then my MD cut back my synthroid dose. I think these two things contributed, and now I find myself at 158 lbs. I am now walking daily and watching what I eat--previously able to consume whatever I wanted...I'm wondering though, if I have stretched my pouch, will it shrink by cutting back my food intake???? Has anyone gained and then had to diet??? Were you successful? --- labellaidanzr <labellaidanzr@...> wrote: > I've had the same thing happen... basically the same > weights, > although I did get a little lower. Guest guest
Hi ~ Its interesting that you mention the Citrucel caplets. I switched to them (was it last winter?) when the powder was recalled because of some problem. There was quite a change in . . . shall we say my bathroom functiions and although I wondered if the change was causing my slow weight gain, I never really connected it to the change in Citrucel. I think maybe I will switch back to the powder for awhile and see if it makes a difference. I think it makes sense that if food is spending more time in the intestine, there's more time for it to be absorbed. Guest guest
Hello, There are several reasons for weight gain. It is something that all weight loss surgery patients across the board can experience. Meds is a biggy, unhealthly life style changes, more muscle mass (muscle weighs more than fat), a need to increaase the intensity of exercise and the lists goes on. I DID find out once I realized I had sabatoged myself by not eating and execising for a time, the tool still works. I am happy, I am exercising by doing something I enjoy, I am eating more healthy and maintaining a size 8-10. I'd love to get some of the loose skin removed someday. Anyway, so I don't know if this helps, but just take a health check of yourself and see what you find. a in NC a --- Tilley <alligray2001@...> wrote: > I am also experiencing weight control issues for the > first time since having the MGB 05-31-03. Guest guest
I have never attributed my weight gain to my use of fiber, But my own humble opinion is that it IS possible to stretch your pouch because I have done it. You couldnt live if your stomach stayed as small as it did post surgery. It has to stretch a little. Unfortunately I can put down a nice amount of food. I have paid the price because I still have to work at losing the weight. I think if that happens to you, you just gotta go back to portion control, less junk, more exercise.... ah If I could consistently take my own advice Camille 8/03 Dr R Carol Lorac <carolandcrew53@...> wrote: Hi ~ Its interesting that you mention the Citrucel caplets.
