Guest guest
We live with and know all about what the negative aspects can be of life as an LP at times. Yet, what are some ways you have been able to make use of your " uniqueness, " to turn it around to your advantage? Like for instance, if I need to return an item to a store, but cannot find the receipt, I never have to worry because I am SO REMEMBERED. They can EVEN describe what I was wearing on that day, yet I can't! Even at busy airports I am remembered! Once in awhile when I see a movie and need to use the john, I need not worry if I have forgotten my ticket stub. Then back when my horse, Patches, and I were being featured a lot in the media several years ago, people began stopping me everywhere, saying, " You're the 'Patches Lady!!!' " and they would be SO excited! I was DEEPLY touched, because none of the " usual " negative words were ever used. To be given respect in such a unexpected way like that...was brand new to me and very touching. Many of you have far greater stories to share than I do on this, and probably far more fun or inspiring...when your uniqueness became a positive experience for you. The experiences we share here, are a tapestry we weave together now, for LP's and parents of LP's who follow, seeking to learn from what we share here. Guest guest
I try not to rely on or " play " the advantage too much, but like it or not, it is there. Mostly, it's helpful/nice to be remembered in regularly visited stores and restaurants. What's funny lately is that I have this capelet/jacket-y thing that looks really great, honestly EVERY time I wear it I get compliments on it. Not too long ago, I was in the store and this lady said " aren't you the one with that great jacket? " I said " I think so. " Cracked me up to be remembered for something besides the obvious! Tickled me to death! -marty (the lady one) >>> <BASHUM7894@...> 10/25/2010 4:10 PM >>> We live with and know all about what the negative aspects can be of life as an LP at times. Guest guest
I'm still remembered, from time to time, for being the only female test driver for amateur, prototype race cars. :-) Though it's been over 20 years, I can still shift with my left hand in cars where the steering wheel is on the right side. :-) " I Can't Drive 55 " <g> Zen Cat Still healing...
