Hi gang! I haven't been very active for awhile and could really use some

advice/support right now. I am currently 26 weeks pregnant with a girl (Hooray!

We have a 4 yr. old boy) and due in September. Thus far, my pregnancy has been

great. However, I may now be suffering from H. pylori. I almost ended up in

the ER Monday night. I woke up choking on acid around 2 a.m. and started to

suffocate. It was truly the scariest experience of my life. I actually turned

purple and my throat was on fire. I aspirated on some of it and they are now

watching me to make sure that I do not develop pneumonia since they don't know

how

much of it ended up in my lungs. I have had trouble breathing and wheezed ever

since but it is progressively getting better. My family practioner wasn't

that concerned by it. He told me to increase my Prevacid to 2 x a day and to

watch for a fever. I see my ob today. I spoke with the CLOS office and they

think

that it sounds like h pylori and recommended the prevpak. Personally, I am not

willing to take all of those meds while pregnant. I have tried to cut acidic

foods out of my diet, sleep (or try to anyway) sitting up, and am taking

Prevacid. I just wanted to know if anyone else out there has had a similiar

experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Alisha Ackerman

Hi .

I'm sorry to hear about this. I do know how you feel. In the beginning, I had

some reflux---maybe twice. I noticed that it happened if I went to bed on a

full stomach.

I always sleep in an inclined position which helps a lot. I am now 8 months

pregnant and I get indigestion, but Tums takes care of that.

I had that reflux stuff a couple of times before I got pregnant and it's just

awful! It burns. I have never had H. Pylori.

I don't blame you for not wanting to take all these meds during pregnancy.

Isn't there a test they can give you to make sure it's H. Pylori?

Sometimes eating a banana can help with indigestion---maybe having one as

desert after dinner and sleeping on an incline will help.

I hope you find something that will help. Congrats on the little girl. I've

got two and a son---didn't want to know what this one is.

Take care.

THanks so much for your response. My ob put me on Zantac twice a day in

addition to my Prevacid. I seem to be doing much better! I am however,

completely

obsessed and depressed about my weight gain. You seem to be doing really well

with yours. I have to keep it in perspective and realize that I was at my goal

when I got pregnant whereas you were still losing. I started out at 124 and

have already gained 30 lbs. I still have 13 more weeks to go. My doctors did

feel that I was underweight when I started out. I am just so fearful of the

weight not coming off afterwards. I have a whole closet full of size 4's. I am

realistic enough to know that I won't just pop right back into those but I hope

I

will get back there. I crave junk all the time and must admit that I have

eaten lots of cookies and those darn little powdered sugar donuts. I know--BAD

GIRL!!!!! I also eat good stuff too. This baby must have a sweet tooth. I guess

I am really freaking out because of all the recent posts from people 4-5 yrs.

out that have gained 20-25 lbs. Does that scare you at all? I am sorry to be

so psycho about this. I had an eating disorder for years and still have that

mentality. Fortunately, I am still in therapy. I have an awesome therapist who

is both a nutritionist and a psychologist who has specialized in eating

disorders for 20 yrs. Anyway, I am going for a 4D ultrasound at the high risk ob

on

July 13. They want to do a growth scan to make sure the baby is growing

correctly. I also am doing a fasting blood sugar test that day. I was supposed

to do

that glucose drink last week and tried but didn't realize until before the

appt. that it was so heavily carbonated. Did you do it? Hope you are doing well.

What is your actual due date? Mine is Sept. 27. Hang in there and stay

cool!!!!! Blessings, Alisha

HI Alisha.

I'm glad that you are doing better. I know you must be a bit nervous. Try to

relax, get rid of the H. Pylori and enjoy the pregnancy.

I had heard that some of the women didn't gain anything during their

pregnancies, and I thought that was ok, but I didn't expect myself to be one

of them. My weight gain is excellent considering my history with my others.

The baby looks fantatstic and is real mover and shaker. I really didn't look

real pregnant until the 7th month and then now I seem to really be growing

fast. I gained 4 lbs in this last month, so I might be a little ahead. The

baby is due on July 28!!!

I have all sorts of cravings and I admit that I give in to them all: junk

food, icecream, fruits, seafood, rice, pasta.

I really have no fear that I won't lose this extra that I've gained and

continue to lose the rest of what I needed. I know the MGB is still working

for me, even though I can eat quite a bit at a time. I still will rid my body

of the fat stuff and I still have days when a little will fill me up.

I will most likely stop eating dairy (or at least limit it to very little)

once the baby is born. I know that helped me losing so well.

I had my third and last sonogram at 32 weeks to check the baby's size. He/she

is right on track.

I did do the glucose test. You are supposed to drink it within 5 minutes, I

did it in 8. I would put a mouthful in and kinda swish it around to get rid of

the bubbles and swallow. It wasn't that bad, but it made me realize that I

don't miss soda at all!! LOL

For the past 3 weeks I have been retaining a bit of fluids in my ankles and

feet. It's the humidity.

So, that's how it's going for me. I'm not complaining about anything. This has

been a wonderful pregnancy.

I hope your's will be too.

Let me know how it all goes.

Take care,
