A solution of medicinal substance in alcohol, usually more or less diluted; spirits containing medicinal substances in solution. extract To obtain from a substance by chemical or mechanical action, as by pressure, distillation, or evaporation. a solution obtained by steeping or soaking a substance (usually in water).
