Guest guest
Donna- I'm only 17 months post op, but your " scary weight gain " caught my attention. Please expand on this. Thanks,
Guest guest
Tracey, I am in the same boat as you, I have 20 lbs to lose (although I haven't done it yet, congrats on losing yours!). I am really struggling here not having gotten to my goal weight yet, my surgery was Sept 20, 2002. I rarely get over 150 lbs (I'm 5'3 " ) I usually fluctuate in the 140's. Believe me I'm thrilled with my weight loss (I was 225 lbs.) but coming this far and not getting to my goal is so frustrating. I go through periods of diet and exercise and nothing seems to make the scale budge. I probably need to be more consistent. I also have to eat ALL the time to stave off hunger. I usually make good choices (chicken breast, fibrous veggies, Fiber One cereal, skim milk, tons of fresh fruit.....) but of course I eat sweets and desserts usually daily. After years of dieting I really try to be " normal " and no obsess. Any suggestions would be appreciated. , congrats to you too (and all of you 5 or so years post-op)! Guest guest
Here are some suggestions, remember when we first had the MGB how little we ate and how much we lost. Well we still have little tummy's - you have to use that little tummy. The hard part is you have to be hungry at least at first. You can eat a lot and all the time if you need to, if eating is a " habit " for you (it is for me) but it has to be things like carrot sticks, celery w/ humus or fat free ranch dressing, plates of steamed vegetables, vegetable soups, low calorie things, and then when you have meals the stuff you said you already eat, the high fiber, low calorie protein, chicken breast, etc. ) You have to go back to low calorie like we did in the beginning. Less calories in = weight loss. Stick to around 1200- 1500 hundred calories (spend a day counting your calories I bet you will be surprised at how many you are eating) a day depending on how active you are the more active you are the more you get to eat! Don't be afraid to go to weight watchers for extra help if you need it they have great advice - it's just common sense but sometimes it helps having the accountably. I know I know you know that all ready! LOL But after a few days of being hungry your tummy starts working again if you listen to it . Eventually the hunger subsides. Luke the force is with you. You have the tools. I want to lose 10 more and make my original goal that I never made of 116 and I know I can do it now. the holidays slowed me down but I am back with a vengence! (those darn sweets!!) Good luck I know you can do it too! Guest guest
Donna, I had my surgery on July 10, 2000. I weigh 333 at the time of surgery. I did well for a long time, but things happen. I had reconstructive surgery in December of 2002. I reached my lowest point right after that time. I had a personal trainer and the whole nine yards. At the end of 2003, I quit seeing my trainer to save money and honestly I got lazy. I also became engaged in December of 2003. I did some happy (stress) eating leading up to the wedding. We got married on May 1, 2004. I became pregnant with twins in the summer of 2004. My girls were born on February 4, 2005 (two months premature). One baby was in the hospital a little over 3 wks and the other was in the hospital for almost 8 wks. Well I was a new mom under a great deal of stress and a popcorn stand in the lobby and snickers ice cream bars in the snack machine of the hospital. The babies are great, but I am compulsively eating and the scales are continuing to climb. I debated posting, because everybody want to hear how great it is, and it is. I would have the surgery again, but it is possible to have a significant weight gain. It is my own fault. I admit I wish I would get very sick from eating sugar, starches, carbs, etc. Unfortunatly that does not happen very often. Eveyone needs to change their eating habits from early on. I was able to eat junk and still drop pounds for a long time. The honeymoon is way over. I am seriously addicted to sugar and the scales are showing it. I honestly don't want or need to be preached at by those who did and are doing better. I know what is wrong, just fixing it is not that easy for me. New people you can be successful. I was. I lost weight, got married, had babies, but I lost my weight loss focus. My plan was to do better this year. So far it is not off to a very good start. Maybe I will get it figured out soon. in Texas > > Any other old timers here still? I am 5 years 2 months post. Guest guest
, We're glad you posted .. you are NOT alone! I too started eating due to emotional issues ... and then the " bad eating " becomes " habit " again ... and there you go! I regained a " significant " amount of weight also -- also my own " fault " . Would I still have had surgery! YOU BET! I am " back on track " as of Monday morning! We can do this ... if you want to talk e.mail me privately. in GA > > > > Any other old timers here still? I am 5 years 2 months post. Guest guest
, I'm sorry to hear about your weight gain, and I confess that this is also my biggest fear. I am done having children, so I won't have a pregnancy weight gain in my future, but I've always gained back weight when I've dieted in the past, and I wonder if I will have problems maintaining my desired weight in the future. I feel confident that I COULD gain right now...I can easily tolerate most foods (including junk food) and I can eat all day. In fact, numerous small meals are a bigger problem for me than having several regular meals, because grazing allows me to eat much more! Have you tried Weight Watchers? I know it worked well for me, and quite a few other MGBers have found it useful in when weight loss stalled, and also when someone gained weight. Just a thought... Good luck to you; I hope things improve in the future! Joanie 5/25/04 Drs. Guest guest
I am also glad posted! I have preached that maintenence begins on DAY ONE! i know it is so easy to be amazed that we can eat junk and lose... but it is a LIE! sure we can eat like that for a little while--- but then when the honeymoon is over your " tool " is weak and it is once again so hard to get that grip and lose weight the conventional way. I have gained some-- i am as guilty as anyone. I beg the new-ops to take note here-- do not fall into the trap of thinking the honeymoon lasts forever! it doesnt! I am glad melanie's babies are ok and all is well otherwise. Be well Be safe S > > > > > > Any other old timers here still? Guest guest
I got down to around 166 after reconstructive surgery. I am at about 232 now. So in the realms of surgery I am still down hundred pounds, but the gain has to stop. > > > > Any other old timers here still? I am 5 years 2 months post. Guest guest
I have contemplated weight watchers and several other programs. The problem with most programs and me is that I dislike most fruits and vegetables. It is difficult to fit into a meal plan with those eating quirks. We just have to figure something out. Unfortunately, my main social activity is going out to eat. I need a new activity. Thanks for posting. I think we met at a picnic in 2001. I think you took care of the shirts. Was that you? > > > > > > Any other old timers here still? Guest guest
I thought so. I teach special education. I thought you did also. I also changed school districts this year. Just another stressor. I wanted to see how much stress I can handle in a short period of time (j/k).
