Guest guest
I've already posted this info before, but WW helped me break a 2-month plateau, and I am very happy with the program. Unlike other fad diet programs, you aren't told exactly what to eat. In fact, on the flex plan, you can eat anything you want as long as you stay within your points total. On the core plan, you eat as much as you want of " clean " , whole foods. I have lost ~20 pounds since starting the program at the beginning of March. Very happy! I am now within 55 pounds of my goal, and I am really excited! Good luck to you! Joanie 5/25/04 Drs. Guest guest
I just HAVE to chime in here...I am all for us using this as a tool. And Patty, I just have to say to all of you out there struggling with poor weight loss, I have been there and it sucks! You DO have to look at your food, BUT sometimes the surgery just fails. Let' s don't ever go to the place where the reason for a revision is because the Patient is non-compliant. We have unique bodies and as talented as RR is, he is still trying to do the best he can to get us to a healthy weight without harming us. I know YOU don't mean Patty and I know RR doesn't mean that a revision is only needed when the patient just won't follow the rules, but having been a " revision " patient, it is very easy for " successful " MGBers to blame those of us who weren't. I used to get crazy when one person, in particular, felt so superior because SHE had lost 100 pounds and I still had so much left to lose, but guess what, I HAD LOST 100 pounds TOO...Our bodies are our bodies and they don't always cooperate. BY ALL MEANS, eat healthy, exercise, follow the rules to the best of your ability and most of all thank God every night for this tool, including the tool of revision, when necessary is available to us. I have had a revision, I have a total weight loss of around 215-220 pounds, but I am no more successful or " unsuccessful " as any other MGBers...this is a journey, and one it is a privilege to be on. Guest guest
nancy, you are as successful as they come. i lost 115 and you lost twice that! if i had to lose 100 more i would be scaping my credit cards for a revision too, because this MGB just isnt going to take anymore off my rear end! that is why i told patty to not let weight creep back. she is 159 now, and to me--- that isnt " overweight " but if she is feeling it begin to creep back already, she better do like barney fife and " nip it.....nip it in the bud!! " LOL! when my MGB " stopped " 10 pounds from " skinny " i wasjust happy not to be morbidly obese anymore so i let it go--- but now after 4 years.... 10 have crept back which makes me 20 from " skinny " if i let it go--- or if i had never tried to discipline myself while the " tool " was working, it would be 40+ by now! all i am saying is for patty (and anyone else) to get a grip on it now and don't wait. i know that i wish i had insisted to myself to push on down to where i would have felt best about my body instead of settling at 10 pounds from goal--- then i would not be 20 pounds from goal now. nothing was pointed at you or anyone with a revision. if a person weighs 159, they are going to have to do something other than a revision because they are not that far from a good healthy weight and hardly a candidate for a revision, right? xoxoxoxo cathy s > I just HAVE to chime in here...I am all for us using this as a tool. Guest guest
Oh , while I responded after your post, that was just coincidence. I didn't take what you or anyone on this thread said PERSONALLY...my comment was really in reaction to Dr. R's two options for Patty....diet or revision...I KNOW and totally agree with you and everyone else who says this surgery is a TOOL, it truly is and we are blessed to have it. My reason for commenting is that I don't want anyone on the list to ever think that revision = non compliant patient. It is SO painful to be one who doesn't make it all the way, and believe you me it is down right HORRIBLE to be one who misses the mark by 120 pounds....the revision is there as a tool too. When you are one of the ones that goes for the brass ring and misses, it feels like it is your fault...sometimes, maybe it is...we COULD diet off some of it. I didn't see myself making and MAINTAINING a normal goal without a revision. The loss of 100 pounds had so changed my life I really wasn't willing to settle for no longer being freak show obese, but still morbidly obese...I wanted my brass ring too. You have loved and supported me through every step of the way and I in NO WAY was being critical of your post or anyone else's...I just wanted to remind the list, most people get revisions for a very good reason....they need to lose a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight....I don't personally think the revision should be used any more lightly than the MGB, in general. It is MAJOR surgery no matter how easy we make it look. My first surgery got me into the range of where most people started, my revision got me to land I had only dreamt of...and I couldn't be happier! I couldn't be happier to have you in my life, as well! _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Sunday, May 01, 2005 5:15 PM Subject: Re: calling all WW and formal dieters nancy, you are as successful as they come. i lost 115 and you lost twice that! if i had to lose 100 more i would be scaping my credit cards for a revision too, because this MGB just isnt going to take anymore off my rear end! that is why i told patty to not let weight creep back. she is 159 now, and to me--- that isnt " overweight " but if she is feeling it begin to creep back already, she better do like barney fife and " nip it.....nip it in the bud!! Guest guest
You are right on ... I have lost 122lbs just since last august and believe me it is NOT because I am the perfect patient... I eat way too much fast food and last night was the 1st time i excersiced at all by walking 2 miles... I know I have to change my eating habits because eventually it willl catch up with me so that is what I am working on right now... But our bodies are diffrent and that is the only reason I was lucky enough to have lost so much in such a short time.. its definately not because I'm " doing all the right things " ... Guest guest
Hi All, And some of us never do make it, even after TWO revisions I am still about 50 lbs overwieght! I still have not made it below 200 mark. I don't know why, but yes I have felt like it is my fault somehow. To have had 3 surgeries and still be considered 'obsese'! I'm still wearing plus sizes. I have thrown my hands up to God, for I know not what to do. It is a tool and this tool has only partly worked for me. I'm happy for all of those who have had much success, but please remember not everybody has had success. Remember that there are some, like myself for whatever reason did not achieve the much hoped for results. For me I am 'STILL' looking for a weight loss program/prescription that might work for me. The ONLY thing that worked for me in the past was Phen/fen, for I lost most of the weight (was below 200) and it was the only time I did not " obsess about food " . The newest presciption I've read about is Rimonabant, but of course it's not been approved yet by the FDA, so it'll still be sometime before it's available. Thanks for letting me vent! Guest guest
, It is so good to hear from you. I knew you were thinking about a second revision but I didn't know that you had " taken the leap " . I am so sorry it has not provided you with the sucess you deserve...breaks my heart actually. But, at least you know, there is nothing else YOU can do...for whatever reason your body is what your body is....I know that doesn't sound supportive but I mean it to be. At one point, I thought, my GOD, this isn't my FAULT...my entire life I thought I was fat because I was a glutton and I have rerouted my entire digestive system and I am still not losing weight...(before my revision)...For me, it was a relief...come what may, I knew in the depths of my heart that there really WAS a genetic component that I didn't understand. I so hope you find your way to a weight you are comfortable with and that you get the desires of your heart. Thanks for posting...everyone needs to hear it ALL....
