Guest guest
Hello, Trish, There are certainly some quick losers in our group. But there are also some very slow losers. The only thing that matters is that we are all losers, in weight, that is. I started out quickly, losing 20 pounds the first week. Then, I gained a pound the second week! If I had focused on only that one week, I would have been devastated. But adding the totals together, I had lost 19 pounds in two weeks!! Since that time, I never sweat a plateau or a slight regain, because I know it's just my body taking its time. I have lost about 3-4 pounds a month for the last 6 months. I've had plenty of plateaus, some lasting a month or more. But the scales eventually move down again. Stay the course!! You may not lose 100 pounds in six months, but what's the hurry? Take your time and enjoy the weight loss, surely one of the greatest feelings an obese person can attain!! F. Potter 1 month out Hello, I am new to the group. I have sent a couple of emails but they never got posted (go figure). Anyways, I was wondering... I am one month post op and have lost 20 lbs. I figured I would've lost more than that by now. Is this normal? I know everyone loses at different speeds, and don't get me wrong, I am delighted with a 20lb weight loss, I just need some reassurance that there are others out there that are losing at the same pace I am. I am taking all my meds. religiously, citrucel,2 protein drinks a day, yougart, etc. Please advise. Guest guest
Dear Trish, Your email made me smile. I remember being one month post op and fretting because I had only lost 17 pounds. I figured if anyone was going to be a failure with losing weight it would be me. After all I had never been successful in keeping weight off prior to my MGB surgery. My surgery was done by Dr. Rutledge on 6-11-02. My weight was pretty close to yours. I was 53 years old at the time. Guess what? It has been only 9 months since my surgery and I have lost 101 pounds. the credit doesn't go to me. Instead it goes to DR Rutledge. Have belief that this surgery works and that you will get where you want to be. Good luck on your journey. It really works. Guest guest
Trich, I lost 21lbs the first week and I kept an eye on other emails to see what they had lost in one month too. Basicly, most loose around 20lbs the first month that I saw. I think because we have so much to loose we want to loose 50 in one month. There are a few that do but they are not the norm. I think once we get some weight off we tend to relax a little. I have lost 61lbs in almost 6 months and I am very relaxed about my weight loss now because I have 61lbs under my belt. We have up to 2 yrs to loose. Try to relax. B In a message dated 3/15/2003 2:35:03 AM Eastern Standard Time, wagnerpk@... writes: > Hello, I am new to the group. Guest guest
Trish, I only lost 20 pounds in the first month also and it's dropped to 7-8 pounds a month since then BUT, I'm still losing slowly but surely and I'm very happy with how I feel. I can eat anything , not much of course. I get discouraged too when I see that most people lose faster than me. I figure that I really screwed up my metabolism with the 25 years of yo-yo dieting. 11/13/02 262/222 1 month out > Hello, I am new to the group. Guest guest
It IS possible to loose that much! I myself lost 16 lbs in the 5 days after surgery. Most of it is water. My ankles and feet were constantly swollen and right after surgery and from then on they have not swollen at all. I think some of us tend to retain a lot of water. Guest guest
and Trish- I lost VERY quick! I lost 38 pounds the first month. I lost 88 in 6 months. And that's where I still sit today. My dear littermate lost slower and I know it was hard on her to hear my monthly updates and to hear about me wearing a size 12 when she was still in plus sizes. But two years later she has lost 210 pounds. She wears 6's and 8's. I am still wearing a 12-14. So it's not all about how fast you lose.
